So your getting old.... To hard to kick start that old piece of crap Knucklehead or panhead you've been riding all these years... Well BOOM!!! I got the bike for you! Its a very original 1966 Harley FLH Shovelhead... Oh boy is she a dresser! Story goes, an old guy back in 1968 was in the same boat. He too was tired of kick starting his old knucklehead... He searched high and low for one of those new shovelheads with electric start. even went down to the dealership and they where sold out. No luck. He ran an ad in the paper... Something like this.... "Trade my old dump of a 1936 knucklehead with cash for a newer Harley with an electric start." He met a "young fellow" that needed the $200 and knuck and a deal was struck... The bike only had 1800 miles on it but that wasn't personal enough.. on the way home from doing the deal he decided to make one stop.. He swung by a buddies and had he letter it up for him.... "The Southland Playboy" He was stoked... When he got home.. His wife wasn't so stoked... She made him rub the "play" off the bike... He rode "the dickens" out of this bike, never laying it down or abusing it through the 70s when it seemed everyone (all his buddies included) was chopping these old bikes up. He would periodically add a little trim or gingerbread as he called it... But never much more then stuff that would bolt on. I got the bike from him..... When I got the bike is had obviously been sitting awhile... Why, I didn't know. But I was assured it ran when parked. With the odometer reading only 24k I figured it was the case... After a pretty good once over I cleaned the original one year only carb and fired it up...... Clank clank clunk... OH NO! I decided this bike was way to neat to "restore" but its originality deserved some love....... I tore the engine down piece by piece... examining along the way... What could it have been making the noise? Low and behold it was a broken piston skirt... WOW lucky me! So while The heads where off I checked some other tolerances and gazed at this beautiful unmolested bike... every nut, screw, shim, bearing and bolt where original and never been stripped or messed with... It was a Zen like experience for me.. Im usually fixing other peoples years and years of "fixes" This bike came apart and went back together like a cake walk! She got a well deserved... New crank pin, rod and wrist bushings, both pinion shaft and drive shaft along with NOS 10 over pistons.. Not to mention all new gaskets, bearings and seals. Now typically I bead blast and clean to like new condition for a complete rebuilt. This time I washed in soap and cleaner only the outside while cleaning the inside brand new.. Hours and hours I spent preserving the "patina'' on this crustoration! (I also sent the original speedometer off to be rebuilt for its new heart needed a time clock!) I lapped the original valves and replace the springs with NOS Harley springs.. Kept her as original as it could be! So what we have now....... This bike is AWESOME! It rides like your sitting on top of a cloud.. Purrs like a kitten and growls like a scalded dog! I would not hesitate to drive this bike anywhere! Its originality is beyond my belief. it has all the proper type hardware and period covers, knobs and controls. Sure its got nicks and a few dings and dents... But its sporting all the important 66 only parts. Do your research, ask me questions, beg your wife! do what ever you need to do to get this old girl... I'd even trade you for that piece of crap knuckle you've been riding... (plus a little cash of course) Upgrades like this you gotta pay! So my plan is to run this classified ad from now til Davenport swap meet in Iowa labor day weekend.... (if you haven't been you gotta go) If the bike doesn't sell from now til then I will auction it off when I return.. That being said.. If we make a deal before then I can deliver to the meet or anywhere within reason between here and there assuming you have payed... Do I really think this bike is worth 16K? I think its worth every penny! Will I take less... You bet I will.. Lets make a deal.. But lets keep in mind that these bikes aren't everywhere and defiantly aren't as cool as this old bagger! Your chance to own the first year shovel and second year electric start!!! Shipping.. As I said we can meet, you can have it picked up or Ill haul it to davenport..... The mileage will go up as long as the weather is nice I will continue to break in the motor... Message me here with any questions or give me a ring. 336.324.0083
