I love early sportsters....and by the calendar, I may be getting old....(class of 69!).......but put me on an early ironhead and I'm feeling like 18. I have owned and built many of these, (and other makes too) and this is my latest creation......I built this bike from an ex-show bike from the seventies. The bike came to me after decades in storage. Being the curious type, I pulled the top end of the motor to have a look. Inside it showed great promise for building my idea of an XLR style bike for the street. The pistons were marked +.20 and there was still crosshatch marks in the cylinders. The parts mic’d within factory specs, so a hone job and new rings was what it needed. The valves and guides are original, and had very little play, so I hand lapped them to see how the seats and valve pattern looked. The valves all matched with a beautiful pattern so it was looking good so far! The rods felt nice and tight, both upper and lower end. Back together it went.Since the original sportster sheet metal was no longer with the bike, I used a later sixties gas tank and cutdown fender. The motor sounds and runs great. I used a Bendix carb, since that is my favorite choice on these bikes. I had a fairly fresh generator, and added a solid state regulator to make the charging system ready to go.Now for some details…..the motor has oem vin stamps, and the title is in my name. Belly numbers match. A date-coded 1965 uncut frame and the nicest set of early forks I have seen in years make for a bike that could be easily restored to stock if you so desire. It has an FL side stand, and the original frame tab is there if you want to chang it back to a stock side stand. All my research makes me believe the exhaust pipes are real XLR pieces. Tires are new Firestone ANS 400x19 front and 450x18 rear (from Coker tire) .. Wheel assys are proper date coded for the year of the bike. Spokes have surface rust. I freshened up the magneto, and it has been a “two kick” bike when cold…..one when hot.I took the liberty of showing my passion for early sportsters by showing a pic of five previous sportsters I have owned and built. I have had many more, but you get the idea. Also a pic of an XLR that got me excited in building a similar street version XLCHI do have some extra 1965 parts that I have collected, and you have first choice if you need them to restore it to stock configuration. We can work that out easily.I do all the work myself, only farming out machine shop work to a trusted friend in the business. The bike is ready to ride. I will be headed from Daytona Beach to Michigan around July and can transport it free to any I75 exit along the way. Other shipping gets my “hands on” help.Overseas buyers are welcome to buy it. I have shipped bikes around the world and can guide you through that process if you have never done it. Either way, everybody gets my complete focus and help.Check my feedback, and you will see I take Ebay sales very seriously. I want happy buyers. Any questions or requests are welcome….just ask.....I reserve the right to end this sale early, since it is for sale locally. Steve cellphone 386 235 7940

The styling cues that lit up the street in those early years would soon become a part of everything from race bikes to outlaw choppers as they spread throughout the motorcycling world. Take a look at the offering for 2016 and one thing becomes instantly clear. The best way to get the style that made the Sportster motorcycle famous is to get a Sportster motorcycle of your own. The narrow frame is more agile than ever. The rumbling V-Twin and muscular front end feel more powerful than ever. The flawless steel and jewel-like fuel tank reveal their authentic American motorcycle roots in every inch of detail. Iconic Engine The Evolution engine riding in the nimble Sportster frame is a prime example of the power, durability and proven reliability The Motor Company was built on. Born from the legendary Shovelhead and Ironhead engines, it s been the power at the center of a Sportster motorcycle since 1984. Its overhead valve design and four-cam gear train have their roots in the company s race program, and you know it when you feel the surge of brute torque that accompanies every twist of the throttle. The air-cooled V-Twin design with a compact one-piece crankcase/transmission fits the narrow Sportster profile like a fist in a fingerless glove. We began with a strong, trouble-free design. Then gave it constant refinement to bring us to the modern powerplant of today. A testament to the unwavering hunger for advancement in motor technology that has always driven Harley-Davidson. T
