The ultimate find!!! Better than a barn find. A one-owner, very original, classic!!! 1970 Shovelhead FLH. The King of the Highway!!! Here's her story... This bike was owned since new in Sept. of 1969 by a gent who passed away just last year. This bike was his baby as you can see and he loved her dearly. He rode her until his death in 2014. So because this bike never sat for decades as most finds do, she runs and rides right now!!! (See videos provided for more on this). And here's what makes this bike even more special... as a 1970 it is a 1st yr. cone Shovel, and last yr. pre-AMF buyout. Notice the tank badges, there is NO AMF in them!!! No bowlingball machines here baby!!! And what makes this already historically significant bike an even more rare find is that the one owner who loved this bike dearly since beginning on the day he rolled her off of the showroom floor until the day he passed in 2014 put every period correct accessory on it that he could. And because he was a New Yorker he did this in the Brooklyn style which is known by collectors the world over for its eye appeal. I mean just check out the chrome deck on the back of this bike!!! And everything works!!! Every light lights up!!! In fact everything on this bike works as it should. (Again, see the videos of this bike running and rolling down the street). The only thing missing on this bike is the original radio system in the fairing, and the updated CD player has been taken out since the videos were made to make room for the new owner to put the a stock one back in should they choose to. We have been able to locate several but have opted to leave this alone allowing the new owner to address this should they choose to. The original carb is still working well though the original owner chucked the ham-can in favor of one that better fit the "bling" approach to accessorizing that he loved. And in fact it actually says "Shovelhead" on it. We think it looks pretty cool, as do all of his add-ons, minor modifications, and accessories. So here's the skinny on this old girl... ~Harley Davidson 1970 FLH~One owner bike since new~All numbers match~Clean NY paper~King of the Highway Package~All period correct accessories in the Brooklyn / Coney Island style and all still work~Offered for sale for the 1st time since new in Sept. 1969~New tires~Good brakes~Motor sounds tight, trans shifts smooth~All fluids changed~New battery (this is why chrome battery cover is not there in the videos. But it exists and is reinstalled on the bike). Face it boys, you can spend twice as much for some late model Road Glide and look just like every other poser at the bar, or you can buy this piece of rolling Harley history that sets you apart. ***This bike is available locally and I reserve the right to end this listing early should it sell locally *** $500.00 deposit due immediately at end of auction. Balance due via wire transfer within 5 business days ***Sold as is/where is ***No warrantee implied or expressed ***Call with any questions before bidding. 1(845)389-1999 ***All shipping costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the winning bidder ***I am available to deliver this bike to a local shipping point for a reasonable fee to cover time and mileage if arranged ahead of time. 1980 Harley-Davidson FLH Shovelhead (FLH-80 Electra Glide II), The Shovelhead is an air-cooled, 45 degree, V-twin motorcycle engine manufactured from 1966 to 1985 by Harley-Davidson. Initial models had an engine displacement of 1,208 cc (74 cu in). Roughly halfway through production of the 1978 model year, this was increased to 1,340 cc (82 cu in) for some of Harley's Big Twin bikes. 1340cc, referred to by the company as 80ci., engines were optional on FLH models halfway through 1978 and through all of '79 before becoming standard equipment for FLH models in 1980. These bikes were referred to as FLH-80 Electra Glide II models. FX model bikes continued to be offered with either 1200 or 1340 cc engines till 1981 when 1340cc, also referred to as 80 ci., was made standard across the Big Twin line.Customized Shovelhead Electra GlideThe "shovel" cylinder head represented an offshoot of the Harley-Davidson Knucklehead engine but featured a slightly different look. The name was derived from the appearance of the rocker box covers. Because these covers bring to mind the head of coal shovels when inverted, the name shovelhead was a natural progression. The shovel engines powered Harleys up until the introduction of the Evolution engine in 1984, ending the reign of the "shovel" as enthusiasts frequently call these engines. The shovel engine does not have covers, per se, but rocker boxes and rocker arms which pivot on shafts. The design provided more than a unique look; it produced 10% more horsepower than the panhead engine which it replaced. From 1966 through 1969 the shovelhead kept the panhead style lower end. These early style shovelheads with the generator bottoms were often referred to as slabside shovels. From 1970 on the shovelheads used an alternator bottom often termed a cone shovel.
