Maico 400 radial. This is an early radial model with the thin web between the fins. Runs and shifts good, picks the front end up with just the throttle. Clutch has been updated with small clutch basket using a long pin so that the big clutch cover can be used. Clutch works nice and easy, doesn't drag when running in gear with the lever in. Mikuni carb is jetted so it runs crisp. I didn't have the bottom end apart on this one, but the rod and main bearings felt very good and within tolerance. Kick lever knuckle has been repaired, but the splines are very nice. Pipe s an aftermarket, and a 78 CR 250 Honda muffler has been welded on. Most of this bike is the way I received it, and I planned to just ride it, so some of the cosmetics are unfinished. The gas tank was painted but needs to be sealed, as it leaks on the seams. New petcocks, new shift linkage, and a new piston ring was installed on the 77.56 Mahle piston. Tank and seat are original, forks look good and are not leaking. Please check all of the photos and ask questions. . $250 Paypal deposit within 48 hours, and the remainder to be paid in 7 days. Buyer is responsible for shipping, or local pick up. :

This bike has a lot of potential. It has a new PVL ignition, a new top end (Wiseco Piston/77.5mm, Rings, Bearings), new wheel bearings, Bing carb. was rebuilt, and a new seat cover and foam. Though the seat cover does have a small cut that will need to be repaired, near the tank. I may have even put a new rebuilt big clutch by Maicowerks in this bike... My notes say I did. It's going to need the usual to get it race ready including a new pipe and shocks, but it has a good start. I had planned to race the bike but as I was getting it ready, I purchased several others and this one was set back. It has not been started in about a year now. There is no issue with storage until you pick the bike up or make arrangements for transportation, but I do ask you pay for the bike after the auction via Paypal. Thanks, and please check out my other bike auctions.

1975 MAICO GS400– ALL ORIGINAL SURVIVOR! 134 ORIGINAL MILES, FRAME # 341016, ENGINE # K407112, TWO OWNERS FROM NEW, TITLE INCLUDED, RUNS AND RIDES 96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Maicowerk A.G. was a West German motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in 1926 by Ulrich Maistch as Maistch & Co, the company originally manufactured 98 and 123 cc Ilo two stroke engines. After Worls War II, they began producing their own unit construction two-stroke engines, selling complete motorcycles. Maico made a brief foray into the automobile business with their own line of microcars in the late 1950s. Maico have also made go kart engines. The road motorcycles were named after winds... 'Blizzard', 'Typhoon' etc., but the company was better known for its purpose-built Motocross and Enduro machines, and for its 'Maicoletta' motor scooter, both of which sold in higher numbers than the road motorcycles. Maico Racing Motorcycles: Maico motocross (MC) and enduro (GS) racing models proved very successful in both European and American competition throughout the 1970s. While lacking the financial capital and big money race-team backing like that of the Japanese factories of Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki, Maico riders such as Adolf Weil, Ake Jonsson, and Willy Bauer proved to be a serious challenge to the Japanese factories and produced numerous top three finishes in the Motocross World Championships. The firm also experienced some success in Grand Prix road racing competitions with rider Borje Jansson winning three 125cc Grand Prix races between1972 and 1973. American publication Motocross Action called the 1981 Maico Mega 2 - 490cc the greatest open-class motocross bike of all time. The 1974.5 400cc and 440cc GP, 1978/79 250cc Magnum and 1981 490cc models along with any year 501cc motocross bike are also some of the most sought-after vintage MX and twin-shock motorcycles to this day. One of the visual modernizations of the Maico off-road motorcycles was the move from a "coffin" style tank in 1974 to a "teardrop" style tank in 1978/79 on bikes like the 250 Magnum. The bikes later moved to plastic tanks in 1980 with the Mega 490. One of the largest contributions to the world of motocross suspension technology came in the 1974 season when the Wheelsmith Motorcycles team in the USA and the Gunther Schier teams in Europe forward-mounted the rear shocks on the Maico factory-backed motorcycles, immediately increasing the travel and ability to trump the competition. This initiated a frantic effort on the part of factory teams and privateers alike; chopping up their frames in a desperate attempt to remain competitive. Maicowerk AG filed for bankruptcy in 1983, but continued to produce small numbers of motocross and enduro models (re-badged as M-Stars in the United States due to legal issues) up through 1986. Subsequent manufacturers have purchased the brand name and applied it to their own limited production motorcycles. Modern open-class dirt-bikes are still being produced under the Maico brandname. The ATK Intimidator dirt-bike (reportedly the most powerful production 2 stroke motorcycle available aside from Maico's own motorcycles) features a Maico motor. After the company went out of business in 1986, its assets were taken over by a Dutch company, but to this day retains a strong cult following. Many riders restore vintage Maicos for display or to take back to the track.

1973 Maico MC400 MotoCross WheelSmith Inter-Am Privateer Documented Lee Williams Inter-Am Racer 1973 Maico GP WheelSmith 400 Factory Support Bike - Here is your chance to own a super rare Maico motocrosser. Has both Maico head tags on steering stem. Frame 388107--Motor U404009. All numbers match --- frame, engine, & MSO.The info I received with this bike is that this Maico originally purchased Nov. 21, 1972 by Floridian Lee Williams to race in the Inter-Am series and was campaigned by him extensively across the US. I do not have any info as to Lee's race results for the 1973 Inter-Am, but I'd guess those stats are out there somewhere.Has all the in house factory WheelSmith designed features such as very early GP frame & swingarm (multiple shock positions: frame has 2 and swingarm has 3), ultra rare Wheelsmith factory GP barrel & head with very thin fins & cooling holes, pegs, brake arm, stay arm, has a nice Circle Ind. aluminum gas cap mounted to a factory WS modified fiberglass narrow tank & airbox to use with special WS up pipe (in beautiful condition--no dings---no silencer), thick GP seat padding with new seat cover, Wheelsmith forks with cooling fin extenders, etc. This bike is running the very rare "rough course" option up pipe & modified tank. See how tank was shortened on left side so as to make the WS up pipe clear the tank. This bike also sports a hand built custom selected, close ratio 5-speed trans. Also has fully restored LUFT finned remote reservoir shocks which are truly 'works of art' all by themselves. Aluminum rear wheel with DID aluminum rims front & rear. All bolts re-cad plated, frame & swingarm repainted titanium silver, all aluminum pieces polished. All new cables, controls, etc. Fully restored to as-raced works privateer configuation from 1973. Comes with original 1973 Maico MSO from Florida dealership with Lee's name on the back. I had been looking for a real early Wheelsmith bike for decades, and this is the first real one I've ever found. Comes with the original factory Wheelsmith airbox too. Original WheelSmith finned forks with longer re-worked damping rods will need to be restored, but ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE. See photos. Here's an interesting side note: It was WheelSmith (along with the W. German factory Maico engineers) that came up with the incredible Maico GP frame & swingarm that VIRTUALLY REVOLUTIONIZED MOTOCROSS DESIGN, and together they BEGAN THE LONG TRAVEL SUSPENSION REVOLUTION!!!! This is basically what Maico offered to the general public beginning with their incredible 1974.5 Grand Prix MC bikes.Potential buyer's: try to find a WS bike anywhere, at any price. Then spend thousands to restore it. I'm sure most will agree this bike at this price is a smoking deal and I'm guessing it will not last long here on ebay. This is a 21 day listing. If you want it, you had better buy it before someone else does. Bike has been sitting for a while since resto and is ready for YOUR RACE PREP prior to riding or racing it.Please look at photos and ask questions (USE zoom FEATURE). This is your best way to determine it's condition so PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AND ASK QUESTIONS if unclear about anything.Az-Mike 623-465-0636. Feel free to call anytime. This bike has it's ORIGINAL MSO.
