1975 MAICO GS400– ALL ORIGINAL SURVIVOR! 134 ORIGINAL MILES, FRAME # 341016, ENGINE # K407112, TWO OWNERS FROM NEW, TITLE INCLUDED, RUNS AND RIDES 96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Maicowerk A.G. was a West German motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in 1926 by Ulrich Maistch as Maistch & Co, the company originally manufactured 98 and 123 cc Ilo two stroke engines. After Worls War II, they began producing their own unit construction two-stroke engines, selling complete motorcycles. Maico made a brief foray into the automobile business with their own line of microcars in the late 1950s. Maico have also made go kart engines. The road motorcycles were named after winds... 'Blizzard', 'Typhoon' etc., but the company was better known for its purpose-built Motocross and Enduro machines, and for its 'Maicoletta' motor scooter, both of which sold in higher numbers than the road motorcycles. Maico Racing Motorcycles: Maico motocross (MC) and enduro (GS) racing models proved very successful in both European and American competition throughout the 1970s. While lacking the financial capital and big money race-team backing like that of the Japanese factories of Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki, Maico riders such as Adolf Weil, Ake Jonsson, and Willy Bauer proved to be a serious challenge to the Japanese factories and produced numerous top three finishes in the Motocross World Championships. The firm also experienced some success in Grand Prix road racing competitions with rider Borje Jansson winning three 125cc Grand Prix races between1972 and 1973. American publication Motocross Action called the 1981 Maico Mega 2 - 490cc the greatest open-class motocross bike of all time. The 1974.5 400cc and 440cc GP, 1978/79 250cc Magnum and 1981 490cc models along with any year 501cc motocross bike are also some of the most sought-after vintage MX and twin-shock motorcycles to this day. One of the visual modernizations of the Maico off-road motorcycles was the move from a "coffin" style tank in 1974 to a "teardrop" style tank in 1978/79 on bikes like the 250 Magnum. The bikes later moved to plastic tanks in 1980 with the Mega 490. One of the largest contributions to the world of motocross suspension technology came in the 1974 season when the Wheelsmith Motorcycles team in the USA and the Gunther Schier teams in Europe forward-mounted the rear shocks on the Maico factory-backed motorcycles, immediately increasing the travel and ability to trump the competition. This initiated a frantic effort on the part of factory teams and privateers alike; chopping up their frames in a desperate attempt to remain competitive. Maicowerk AG filed for bankruptcy in 1983, but continued to produce small numbers of motocross and enduro models (re-badged as M-Stars in the United States due to legal issues) up through 1986. Subsequent manufacturers have purchased the brand name and applied it to their own limited production motorcycles. Modern open-class dirt-bikes are still being produced under the Maico brandname. The ATK Intimidator dirt-bike (reportedly the most powerful production 2 stroke motorcycle available aside from Maico's own motorcycles) features a Maico motor. After the company went out of business in 1986, its assets were taken over by a Dutch company, but to this day retains a strong cult following. Many riders restore vintage Maicos for display or to take back to the track.

1975 CR250M Elsinore Frame # CR250M -2004561 Engine # CR250ME-2004584 Bike runs strong and rides well. Engine has great compression , clutch feels great, trans shifts fine. The throttle cable needs replacing, as it hangs up once in a while. The wiring is in great shape except for the toggle kill switch. The bike still has the original aluminum tank, but it has its fair share of dents, and has an old liner in it. The bike still has the original and hard to find silencer and kick stand. It also has the dealer recall fix engine braces .This bike would make a great vintage MX race bike, or restore to showroom condition. The engine is solid and it would be a very easy restore. The bike is located in 03827 NH and I would like it picked up within a reasonable amount of time. The bike comes with a bill of sale only, as these old dirtbikes dont have titles.

WOW! really nice running early 1971 Zundapp GS125 I RODE THIS BIKE TODAY. it does everything as it should and it does it well.. starts/runs/stops/shifts/brakes/ etc. i've recently: rebuilt carb, adjusted points, set timing, replaced head gasket, and adjusted shift bell. i have 3 of these, so i am quite familiar with them. this bike starts 1 kick every time. no funny noises, top end looks great with no scoring or damage to the original bore. motor is very nice, bike idles nicely, shifts surprisingly well, and zips right along with no flat spots or jetting issues. it runs very nice, with the 16.3 1st generation motor. wheels are nice, and this appears to be a low mileage bike with no major issues. tank is very nice, with only 1 tiny ding - see pics. that being said, it is missing/needs a few things:airbox shroud, headlight bucket, handlebar switch, and tail light. i assume previous owner stripped these off for racing. the forks will need rebuilt, as they are a bit stiff, but rideable as is. the seat has some tears in the front, and the foam is soft. new seats are available and are a much nicer shape for racing than the originaltank leaked at one time, the underside has some jb weld on it, all of these bikes have the same issue with tank rubbing frame in the back. kill switch is missing. there is a small but dedicated following of these bikes, and parts are available. these bikes are extremely competitive and desirable. with a quick going over this bike could be raced with only minor setup. it is mostly complete and unmodified so it would also make an excellent garage queen. i can answer any questions regarding this bike, just email. if you happen to be in the morgantown,wv area, you are welcome to inspect it in person, etc. i have bought and sold MANY bikes, i will miss this one, it's a good one. i can possibly deliver this to many ahrma events on the east coast. i can hold onto it for a while if you need to time to figure out shipping. i know quite a few bike transporters, and can help with finding a reliable shipper. international buyers will need to figure all shipping. I AM INTERESTED IN SQUARE BARREL/ALLOY BARREL/IRON BARREL MAICO PROJECTS, and various EURO dirt pre-1975.... in case you have one laying around....

Rare and unique piece of motorcycle racing history. Only produced by Honda for one year (1975), as a factory racing cycle before Honda turned this into a street legal enduro to compete with all the other enduro's appearing on the market. The MR 250 was produced to compete on the desert race circuit, hill climb and longer forest scrambles type racing. Racer's complained that the CR250's were to pipey and did not have the torque to compete effectively in these race's against the Husky's,Yamaha's,Maico's etc so the MR 250 was born. The biggest difference between the two Honda's (CR vs MR), is the flywheel counterbalance weight on the MR which gave this cycle the punch she needed to compete. Although not received well in the racing world the MR 250 proved a formidable competitor in the longer races and hillclimbs. Honda did continue the MR line of racer's with the 175 MR Elsinore. This rare find runs great, looks great and comes with the factory service manual and several hundred dollars worth of spare parts. Grab yourself a rare piece of motorcycle racing history on any Sunday with this rare find !!

Purchased earlier this year on ebay complete but had been in storage since the late 1990's. Had been "restored" for showroom duty for a dealership and has had many items replaced. Since purchase I have gone back through and repaired and serviced most items to race ready. However I have decided to let it go in favor of something more exotic like a Maico or a Puch. Motor has good compression, starts, runs and idles good. Clutch operates and shifts good ( Have not ridden to attest gear operation) Left case shows usual chain damage (so it is missing serial number plate) Fuel tank has newer paint but shows several bubble spots on top as seen in photos. Fenders, Side covers & Front number plates are new. Carburator is clean, has new bowl gasket and does not leak. DG exhaust is new. Redwing hammerhead shocks are new. Swingarm has cool 70's forward mount welded on for forward shock location ( rear mount still functional) Air filter is new Uni Filter. Sprockets and chain are new Spokes are new. Tires are new Cables appear new. Forks serviced with Bel-Ray 10w . Please, do not click purchase if you are not able to complete the purchase, offers may be considered but I would rather keep it to race than to give it away. Payment must be received before or at vehicle pick-up. Certified check is OK but must be USPS or a major bank. Contact me thru E-bay with any questions ....Thanks for looking!
