1976 Honda Cb 550, 1976 CB550F tastefully redone and given a mild but classy cafe racer treatment. It looks great and runs strong. The bike was torn down to the frame and each mechanical, electrical, and accessory component gone through and repaired, refreshed, or replaced. The engine has been gone through and is in good condition. It runs strong and sounds great after mild tune-up. Carbs were completely torn down, sonic cleaned, and rebuilt and synced. Front suspension completely rebuilt and painted, Rear suspension replaced, tank cleaned and coated with Red Kote then side panels and tank painted. Upgrades include caf seat, suspension, signals, Halogen headlight (currently with an HID kit but completely reversible), new battery, and LED instrument lights. I have kept all the takeoff parts to be included with the bike in case someone prefers the stock signals, fork ears, etc. This classic is ready to enjoy. Please contact me for details. Asking 4500 OBO $4,500.00

The 1976 is a personal restoration / mod project. To be honest I built the bike for myself but recently I fell in love with and purchased a 2014 Yamaha FZ09 so I will be selling the Honda to help finance the new cycle. It was torn down to the frame and gone through piece by piece: Engine: - Verified compression on all cylinders- checked and set valve clearances- set cam chain tensioner- checked and adjusted points- New oil and filter- Clutch cable replaced- the 4 into 1 headers are original to the bike and were unique to the 550F. Similar to the 400F. The muffler is a mac product with a mechanical baffle. No need to ever pack. Carbs: - carbs were completely torn down and sonic cleaned. I own an industrial sized surgical instrument cleaning tub I bought at a hospital auction because no one knew what it was- After sonic cleaning I replaced all the o-rings, gaskets, and float needles. The jets were all in great shape and since no one ever tried to manually clean them they were still reusable- Carbs were then put back together and bench synced- Throttle cables cleaned, lubed, and adjusted- New reusable air filter was oiled and added. Suspension / Drive: - Rear air shocks were shot and didn't match the bike. I replaced with a new pair of standard shocks.- Front forks were replaced with an original set purchased from ebay. Those were torn down, tubes checked for true, and rebuilt with new seals, new fork oil. and painted chrome on tubes is in great shape.- Chain and sprockets were all fairly new with little wear. They were cleaned, adjusted, and lubed. Tank: - Tank was very clean inside with only some flash rusting.- Tank was sonically cleaned and coated with Red Kote (my coating preference)- It had a couple of quarter size dents on the left side so those were filled. I also filled Honda emblem mounts because I wanted to go in a subtle but different direction. Electrical and lighting: - Front sealed beam was replaced with a halogen conversion kit. I have put an HID kit in it because they're much brighter and use less power but it's completely removable. You can plug a halogen bulb right back into the original harness. Bucket was mounted to new café style fork ears.- All instrument lighting was replaced with LED bulbs.- Turn signals and tail light were all replaced with café style aluminum signals and Lucas style tail light.- All charging and starting components were checked out and replaced as necessary. All components cleaned up. Bike charges at 13 volts at 2500 rpm- Wiring harness was cleaned up and all connectors were checked for damage, cleaned, and put back together. All electrical connections are solid.- handlebar controls were cleaned up and checked. They are in good working order but more on that*- Battery was replaced in April Body and Misc: - New mechanical baffle to match MAC exhaust installed- Tank and side panels stripped of old paint and repainted- Frame cleaned up. Did not need painted- handlebars were replaced with an original 1976 CB550F set. Chrome on bars in great shape.- Emblems on side panels and tank are custom design and are set on with 3m tape. They can be removed if not your taste but are solidly mounted.- Seat was replaced with a plastic pan café racer seat. Pan will never rust but it is NOT original to the bike.- All the chrome was already on the engine and carbs. This was just cleaned up a bit. More on this as well.**- Tires were in new condition. They were left alone.- Wheel were checked for loose spokes and adjusted where necessary then checked for true. Bearings checked and lubricated.- Front brake caliper was rebuilt with a phenol (plastic) piston and painted. The piston will never seize to the caliper due to corrosion. New brake fluid.- Rear brake was checked and found to be in good order and adjusted to my riding taste.- All rubber grommets, tank mounts, pedal rubber, etc all cleaned checked and armor all'd.- A general detailing of the entire bike was done including polishing exhaust, fenders, grab rail, etc.- All bearings were checked and found to be in good shape then cleaned and repacked. * The right handlebar start button has been modified before I purchased bike. The button works but is not original and can't be reversed. to have a "correct" restoration the housing would have to be replaced. ** The tappet covers are chrome finned. One outside fin was chipped off on one side. I was unable to find a match so I moved it to an inside position on the engine so it is not visible. Functionally it's fine but visually it bothered me. Other notes: - the chrome was peeling off the brake levers at time of pictures. I have since replaced them matching rubber tipped Honda type levers.- I have a brake reservoir rebuild kit but the reservoir is in perfect working order. I had planned on pulling it over the winter and cleaning / rebuilding. Kit will be included in the sale.- I have original signals, fork ears, brake light assembly. All included with the sale. - I have a clear IL title. I rode the bike on a 300 mile trip about a month ago and it performed GREAT. However it IS almost 40 years old so it won't perform like a new machine. Carb / points bikes are finicky but part of the charm for me. This machine is NOT an attempt at an accurate restoration but a functional and tasteful mild café racer. My inspiration for the project was the new Royal Enfield café racer. I tried to make something unique where those in the KNOW would catch the subtle details but not so much that it stands out as weird or out of place. Ultimately it was built to enjoy.
