This RD is well sorted out with minimal patina. This is a strong runner and starts very easy (1 or 2 kicks). All chrome is in great shape and all alloy surfaces are polished. I have owned and restored this RD for the past 10 years. I have a total of over $7,000 invested. Many of the components were purchased from HVC and Economy Cycle. Some of the restoration work was performed by Economy Cycle. I have multiple service and parts manuals for the RD.Restoration specifics are as follows:Newer Conti-Go tires, Progressive fork springs, recent fork seals, DG expansion chambers, K&N filter with Y-boot intake, FAST rear sets, MZB electronic ignition/alternator, recent leak down tests to verify good condition of crank seals, rebuilt front/rear master cyclinders, Shori battery, gas tank very clean, 520 chain with front/rear sprockets, bronze swing arm bushings, stainless engine bolt kit, calipers rebuilt with new seals front/rear, new steering head bearings, carbs rebuilt, oil injection pump rebuilt by Economy Cycle, complete set of main jets. HVC Streetfighter seat cover and pad installed on original pan. Stainless braided brake lines.Original Chappy Red paint with original decals. I have spotted in portions of tank to correct small scratches/blems (spotted in areas undetectable). Bike has 12,200 original miles. All switch gear works perfectly (turn signals, lights, etc.). Instrument gauges and lighting work perfectly. All original components are available with bike (e.g. exhaust pipes, handle bar, center stand).

I have extensive receipts for engine rebuild and massive engine restoration in 2012. New points, condenser, high-output coils, Boyesen Power reeds, pistons, cylinders bored, all new engine case seals and gaskets, new chain and sprockets, new engine bearings, balanced crank, serviced transmission, replaced shift forks, new clutch, oil injector rebuild, replaced all hoses, tires, battery, jetting set up for max performance with Banshee Y-pipe mod to single pod filter, SpecII pipes and expansion chambers, clip-on bars, rearset controls, cafe-style seat, collector license plate. This bike is kick-start only and starts, runs, and stops great. It has disc brakes front and rear. I also have a set of original decals for the side covers that I haven't installed - as well as a box full of original and spare parts. Clear title in my name, collector plate on bike. You would be hard pressed to find another vintage 2 stroke that is this fast, reliable, and that has had this much extensive recent work done by professionals (much of it done by :// /). 1976 Yamaha RD400 vintage cafe racer with 10,970 miles on the odometer. Clean CA title and registration is up to date. It has a Ducati 900ss style half-fairing and custom gunmetal grey/black paint job with gold wheels and accents (there are a few little cracks in the paint on one side on the tail section where it bolts to the frame). It is a kick-start 2-stroke with oil pump still operational so no need to run premix. Mikuni carbs have been cleaned and rejetted. Has Banshee cross-over tube and the popular Y-boot to a foam air filter. The tach has been mounted in the center just in front of the triple trees with the speedometer tucked down low on the left side near the headlight right behind the fairing. The tank has been coated to prevent rust. It has clip-ons, rear sets, aftermarket chambers with new packing, Shorai lithium battery, and a Joker Machine oil dipstick and magnetic drain plug. The tires are in decent shape, but I would recommend replacing them due to age. Runs and rides great! No test rides without cash in hand. Bike is currently in Garden Grove, CA until Monday. 1976 Yamaha RD400 cafe project Started project 1 yr. ago but decided to put on hold... Took some pictures of freshly powdered coated frame with primer painted tank and fiberglass tail. It has the proper line with seat pan lining up with tank. I threw on tank and tail for pictures so you can get the feel of where I was going with it. When I purchased the bike the previous owner fired it up first kick no problem, Im including a new gasket set and stainless steel complete engine bolt set as pictured. Modified frame is still wrapped up from powder coating with eggshell semi gloss finish, cut off side plate tabs as I wanted to clean up center minus plate & oil tank. Welded battery mount under tank and seat rail to mount fiberglass seat pan as pictured.The tank is in great condition inside and out. It has a small dent 1/4 inch as pictured. Some items worth mentioning that are not included are; wheels, rear swing arm, handlebar among other small items I'm not recalling at this time.Everything that is pictured is what's included... so, please look at pictures carefully. If you don't see it on the pictures it's NOT included..The Ca. Title is included and matches with engine as pictured. I'm trying to sell as package so initially, I won't be interested in selling engine or frame set up separately unless you want to offer me some crazy good price. I'm not at all interested in shipping anything so. Two options for you, pick up in person in San Diego, Ca. Or hire someone to crate the whole thing at your expense. This is a numbers matching 1976 Yamaha RD400 with a clean California title in my name. Very Nice custom built spoke wheels. The paint is factory on tank and side covers so its not perfect paint but I kept it for the vintage appeal. It still looks nice. As you can see in the pics the engine is spotless. I do have most stock parts ( headlight dome handlebars head seat and mag wheels) the bike runs great and fast nice little head turner. Also you can see in pic it has the gold dg head that is vintage 1976 head and not cheep to find one. Its not a show bike has a small ding in fenders also one small ding in tank but it is one of the cleanest riders you'll find. Amazingly clean and mechanically tight un-restored, original RD-250. "Survivor" is an understatement. The paint on the tank, side covers, frame are really unique (show room quality comes to mind, no fading whatsoever, graphics are perfect). And the chrome is truly special. Of course the frame and engine VINs match. I've looked at a lot of RD250's, RD350's and RD400's (and DS7's) from 1971-1976 and I have not found one as clean as this one. This bike starts right up and sounds great. The oil injection works flawlessly and does not smoke at all (only using Yamalube of course). The clutch and six speed transmission both work like you drove it off the showroom floor in 1974. All electronics work to perfection (horn, signals, displays, lights). The only items that are not original on this bike are the battery, tires, and handlebars. Hagarty's and NADA value these bikes in the 4-5K range if they are "excellent" in condition for what that's worth (probably not much since bikes this old have to be evaluated individually). For an un-restored motorcycle, I would have to rate this one as excellent. Odometer is currently at 3,900 miles. If you're very interested in an unmolested (i.e., not "cafe'd" by the younger crowd) RD-250, this is worth a look. No trades. And please don't email me an offer of $2,000 (I still enjoy riding it).
