1977 Harley-Davidson Sportster , The 1977 XLCR (caf racer) was one of Willie G Davidsons early styling triumphs, but it was not a commercial success. Its custom tailpiece, caf fairing and unique Siamese exhaust made it a very distinctive motorcycle. Based on a redesigned XR frame, with many of the suspension components from, or copied from, the production XR-750 racing model, the XLCR was targeted at the caf racer set. Since there were only about 3100 made, this has become a rare and very collectable motorcycle and was named as one of the Worlds Coolest Bikes by Cycle World as recently as 2010. This bike is registered in Michigan as a Historical Vehicle and I have enjoyed riding it, especially to classic car/bike events. It still performs the way it was originally intended and can be ridden as is, or it could be restored (the numbers match) to as new condition as your time and money allowed. To do a minimum restoration, the mufflers would need to be repaired/replaced and the gas tank repainted (see photos). New battery in Fall 2013, excellent tires, Lockhart oil cooler.
