Nice classic 1977 bike, runs well, pure, light bike + FAST! 13000 miles Clean title NEW: top end,clutch,tires,reeds,tune-up, battery 2-stroke air cooled 400cc SpecII chambers exhaust pipes- little loud K&N 2 into1 pod Comfortable "Rear Sets" Drilled rotors Bike needs some love that I haven't found the time to give it so willing to send it to the right home. Nice bike to ride- not a concours restoration show bike. Paint looks to be non original, with '78 gauge cluster that shows 9950 miles with 13000 on title. Rear brakes don't work and needs fork seals. Bike is 38 years old so of course it shows some age! Currently doesn't have the chrome front fender and original turn signals installed but I have them (pictures show it both ways). Up for sale is this beautifully restored and customized 1977 Yamaha RD400. This puppy was rebuilt from the ground up by Rusty Bolt Garage in Santa Fe, NM. A quick run through of the building process was upgrading the suspension, front and rear, an engine rebuild to stock specs, reworking the carbs and intake system, relocating the oil tank and wiring underneath the one of a kind fiberglass seat and tail section, powder coating the frame, swingarm, and other bits, new expansion chambers, all new controls and gauges, cross drilled rotors, new brake calipers and master cylinders fed by stainless steel lines. Since this bike was built to ride, it is street legal thanks to the LED turn signals, brake light, taillight, and headlight. The bike has been test ridden about 30 miles since completion. She starts on the first or second kick every time and is a joy to ride. You wont see another one quite like this. It has the daytona package, pretty good shape mechanical and body, needs gear shift return spring rehooked, the shifter is limp and the spring is under the gear case, 20 minute job to fix, i am not mechanically inclined and i had enough of paying way too much in shop rates, engine runs real good, starts first kick, wiring harness was replaced 2 seasons ago, all lights and switches work, only oil leak is if you put too much 2 stroke oil in the reservoir, very solid engine for its age, gas floods engine if left on for more than half hour without running, rims are 7 star powder blue, factory stock rims are spoked, i have had it doing 100 miles an hour, no speed wobble at all, will go faster if you can handle the extreme rush, small dent in left side of tank from handle bars, bike being parked in dirt yard and the rain softened the ground that made the bike fall, a couple small chips in paint otherwise paint is close to perfect, rims are custom painted powder coated, no blemishes at all in them, not factory colours or badging, missing right side body panel that covers fuse panel, sad to part with it but due to health reasons i cannot ride for a long time and i do not want to see it rott away
