To give this bike its unique look the tank was hand - painted by an artist over a three month period. 1979 Triumph BONNEVILLE T140

Up for Sale is a beautigul 1979 Triumph Bonneville T-140D (Special).My good friend was diagnosed with cancer and heart disease two and a half years ago and passed this past May. His wife has asked me to help her sell the bike and find a new home for it.  I've inspected the bike myself and have found the following items that she will need done to make her whole again.  The bike has been laid up since he took ill so, the battery will need replacing, the front caliper is frozen, tank is dry and carbs may be calcified or gunked up. This bike is a former British Police Bike purchased in 1966 to become a part of a fleet of police motorcycles in London, England. It was purchased at a police auction by a US citizen in the late 1970's - early 1980's in London. It has been rebuilt/restored from the ground up and is a perfect example of a 650cc model 6T. It was restored to look like an American civilian bike and later to a British civilian bike. It runs great and strong. Has high compression and starts easily with one or two kicks....cold or warm. McQueen was famous almost as much for his passion for cars, airplanes and motorcycles as he was for his legendary movies. He owned numerous Triumph motorcycles and loved to spend his spare time riding in the Californian dunes aboard his modified 1963 Triumph Bonneville. A highly accomplished rider, he also competed in the 1964 International Six Day Trial in East Germany using a factory-prepared 650cc Triumph Trophy and was reputed to own 138 motorcycles at the time of his death in 1980. Based on the popular Triumph Bonneville T100, the officially licensed Steve McQueen TM Edition features a host of modified parts that takes it a step beyond the usual ‘special edition’. The Triumph Steve McQueen TM Edition also features a number of blacked out components, including wheel rims and hubs, handlebars, rear springs, mirrors and front mudguard supports. For sale is a pristine, well maintained Triumph Street Triple R ABS. The bike is stock except for a few basic OEM extras, like Triumph frame sliders, a Triumph Tank Zipper Guard, Triumph Rear Hugger, and Triumph matching front windscreen and bellypan. In my opinion, the street triple looks terrible without those extra body panels. Also, as a little bonus, I routed a permanent battery tender wire, so you don't have to take the seat off when you want to connect the battery to the tender. I will include that and the tender unit.The bike accelerates comfortably and has a great engine sound, but is not loud, which I prefer. It's definitely a sophisticated looking and sounding bike. The tires have an insane amount of grip. I had owned two 1980s bikes before this one and I have to say that this motorcycle inspires absolute confidence on the road that I had never felt before. Everything is rock solid and does exactly what you ask it to. Let's not forget the freaking ABS, which has your back no matter what. Gone are the days of locking up that rear tire in a panic brake. I won't get a motorcycle without ABS ever again. I love everything about the bike, but I'm wanting to upgrade to a Triumph Tiger, now that I've saved up enough to get one.The bike got an oil change last October, using the OEM recommended brand synthetic oil. I will have this done again, before winter hits, but I will factor that into my price, afterwards. There are no functional or cosmetic issues at all. Tires are in great shape. A full tank of gas and some extra oil is included.The R version has 3 adjustable suspension components that you can use to stiffen up the bike for performance or loosen for more comfortable highway riding. I have returned everything to the stock configuration. It's very easy to adjust with just a screwdriver and spanner.The body panels have been kept waxed and the matte black plastic has been treated to wick bugs and water spots. This bike is in dealership new condition!

Stock # X065971978 Triumph T140E classic.The 650 cc capacity production T120 Bonneville was replaced in the early 1970s by the T140 Bonneville, the same basic machine but with a 750 cc engine. Refined from the later 'oil in frame' version of the T120, the first few T140s, designated T140V, featured a larger-capacity engine of 724 cc, a five-speed gearbox and indicators, but still retaining drum brakes and kick-start. Shortly after, the engine was further bored out to 744 cc and front disc brakes were fitted (using single discs until 1982). While originally intended for 'export only' the 750 Bonneville twin, caused so much interest among visitors to the 1973 motorcycle shows, that Triumph decided to put the bike on the home market at the price of 679 uk pounds. In 1975, along with engine modifications, the gearchange lever was moved from right to left to comply with new regulations mandated for the American market and a rear disc brake fitted. Several T140 models followed featuring various modifications and refinements including electric starting from 1980 until production ceased with the closure of the Meriden works in 1983.Although this should have been the end of the Bonneville, as it turned out it was not. Triumph Motorcycles was acquired by businessman John Bloor, who licensed a company called Racing Spares in Devon, run by Les Harris to manufacture the T140 Bonneville.
