Offered for sale- Street legal off road, with knobby tires and full lighting. 2 stroke, 6 volt motorcycle that starts first or second kick. 5 speed gearbox that easily transports 200 pounds plus rider. Please read fully: 1981 Honda GL500 SilverWing Interstate. Clean cleat title in hand. I purchased this to be a wintertime frame off restoration. I got a new job plus just purchased a house that needs some TLC and I am not going to have the time to restore this bike. The good: New tires front & rear! Have put about 100 miles on them. NEW Slipstreamer windscreen, new front brake master cylinder, rebuilt R.H. front brake caliper (was seeping). New front break pads. Pilot's seat profeshionally recovered and is VERY comfy! Battery is only about 6 months old. New foam grips. New H4 halogen headlight bulb. ALL lights work properly. I installed a new marine grade dual port USB charger neatly installed in front fairing and is activated when the ignition switch is turned on. Bike is licensed & insured and I have put aprox 150 miles on this bike in the last week. Runs smooth as a new one and rides smooth as butter! The bad: 1) Needs front timing cover gasket & seal replaced. It is not so bad that you can not ride the bike for several hundred miles at a time. It just seeps a bit and will leave oil drips on the floor when parked, , , , , much like my Harley did. :-/ I HAVE the gaskets (2 required) and the camshaft seal (part of the timing cover. May not be bad, but while it is off is a perfect time to go ahead and change it too ) and those parts will go with the bike. 2) The paint is fair at best. So, in summary, it is a good running, smoooooth riding, decent looking bike. Just needs a proper restoration ---or-- would make a good bobber project as the front fairing alone brings $300+ on e-bay. CASH OR TRADE ONLY. MUST have clean clear title in hand for your trade in. NO free rides. If you take it out for a test ride, I hold your cash in hand hostage till you bring it back safely. You wreck it, you bought it! Will trade for: GL1200 or a dual sport / Enduro bike. May consider other trades. I have waaaaaayyyyyy too much money invested in this already. My loss is your gain!

Up for sale is a 81 Honda XL500s duel sport enduro. It's sporting the camo theme. Starts first or second kick every time. It smokes a little from the exhaust on a cold start when the humidity is high from the condensation in the exhaust but goes away when the engine warms up. I found that if I put a bag over the exhaust about an hour after running it, the next time I start it up no smoke. Runs and idles great no problems. Has a MONSTER 500cc single cylinder engine!!!It was used on the streets from 81 until 87 then was mostly driven on the trails. It has a knobby tire in the back with plenty of tread and a regular enduro tire in the front with lots of tread as well. Replaced the stator cover, stator cover seal, and shifter shaft seal. Leaks no oil. I've replaced the foam filter, gave it a fresh coat of paint and I have it running on 91 octane. It was a rebuild from the junkyard in 87 and tagged as rebuilt so you can ride on licensed trail and also will make it easier to make street legal if that's the route you want to go. All of the switches are there. The title is still from the junkyard but the bike is clean. If you look up the vin# in Secretary of State it is clean and has never been in a flood or been stolen and it also shows that it is tagged as rebuilt there as well. I got it as a project because it was sitting in storage for 10 years. I rebuilt carb and did normal maintenance i.e. Spark plug, oil change, basic seals fuel filter etc. also installed a new key so now it won't start without one. Everything works including the headlight and is in good orderThis bike is very rare as it is the last year of the xl500s and the last year that the xl500 had duel shocks and it only has 4000 original miles. This thing is a beast, a monster and a legend. They will go anywhere and have PLENTY OF POWER. These thumpers last forever!!No clutch wheelies for days:) Asking 750 obo. No trades. Make me an offer. As long as post is up bike is still for sale.

The Vespa P-series was the last of the "classic" Vespas to come out of Piaggio's factories. Though many of the brand new scooters reaching American shores have a "Vespa" badge, they are cut from a different cloth entirely. Though certainly not the most elegant styling exercise, the P-series Vespas are probably the sturdiest models, and certainly the most commonly encountered Vespa in the U.S. today. In the mid-1970's the basic Vespa design had been refined almost as far as it was able to go. However, changing consumer tastes, and new technologies, coupled with tightened regulations, meant that Piaggio realized that it was time to totally re-design the Vespa chassis. The result of that total re-design, was the P-series Vespa. The P-series scooters consisted of three models, the P125X, P150X, and P200E when it debuted in 1977. The only difference between the models was in the size of the motors that were installed. The frames on all three were identical. The P series Vespas are the most easily found Vespa in the U.S., and they are without a doubt, the most practical to own. They have the fastest and most refined motors of any of the Vespas. They are also the most comfortable to ride. For all of the above reasons, the P series scooters make a perfect introduction to the classic scooter world. All of them can keep pace with modern traffic, and with their 12 volt electrical system, and functional turn signals, make very sensible commuters. This specimen has only just over 800 original miles on it and starts and runs like it was new. And it comes complete with the original paperwork and manuals!! 1975 MAICO GS400– ALL ORIGINAL SURVIVOR! 134 ORIGINAL MILES, FRAME # 341016, ENGINE # K407112, TWO OWNERS FROM NEW, TITLE INCLUDED, RUNS AND RIDES 96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Maicowerk A.G. was a West German motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in 1926 by Ulrich Maistch as Maistch & Co, the company originally manufactured 98 and 123 cc Ilo two stroke engines. After Worls War II, they began producing their own unit construction two-stroke engines, selling complete motorcycles. Maico made a brief foray into the automobile business with their own line of microcars in the late 1950s. Maico have also made go kart engines. The road motorcycles were named after winds... 'Blizzard', 'Typhoon' etc., but the company was better known for its purpose-built Motocross and Enduro machines, and for its 'Maicoletta' motor scooter, both of which sold in higher numbers than the road motorcycles. Maico Racing Motorcycles: Maico motocross (MC) and enduro (GS) racing models proved very successful in both European and American competition throughout the 1970s. While lacking the financial capital and big money race-team backing like that of the Japanese factories of Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki, Maico riders such as Adolf Weil, Ake Jonsson, and Willy Bauer proved to be a serious challenge to the Japanese factories and produced numerous top three finishes in the Motocross World Championships. The firm also experienced some success in Grand Prix road racing competitions with rider Borje Jansson winning three 125cc Grand Prix races between1972 and 1973. American publication Motocross Action called the 1981 Maico Mega 2 - 490cc the greatest open-class motocross bike of all time. The 1974.5 400cc and 440cc GP, 1978/79 250cc Magnum and 1981 490cc models along with any year 501cc motocross bike are also some of the most sought-after vintage MX and twin-shock motorcycles to this day. One of the visual modernizations of the Maico off-road motorcycles was the move from a "coffin" style tank in 1974 to a "teardrop" style tank in 1978/79 on bikes like the 250 Magnum. The bikes later moved to plastic tanks in 1980 with the Mega 490. One of the largest contributions to the world of motocross suspension technology came in the 1974 season when the Wheelsmith Motorcycles team in the USA and the Gunther Schier teams in Europe forward-mounted the rear shocks on the Maico factory-backed motorcycles, immediately increasing the travel and ability to trump the competition. This initiated a frantic effort on the part of factory teams and privateers alike; chopping up their frames in a desperate attempt to remain competitive. Maicowerk AG filed for bankruptcy in 1983, but continued to produce small numbers of motocross and enduro models (re-badged as M-Stars in the United States due to legal issues) up through 1986. Subsequent manufacturers have purchased the brand name and applied it to their own limited production motorcycles. Modern open-class dirt-bikes are still being produced under the Maico brandname. The ATK Intimidator dirt-bike (reportedly the most powerful production 2 stroke motorcycle available aside from Maico's own motorcycles) features a Maico motor. After the company went out of business in 1986, its assets were taken over by a Dutch company, but to this day retains a strong cult following. Many riders restore vintage Maicos for display or to take back to the track.
