1986 YamahaPro-Tec Factory TT600 PRO-TEC ENGINEERING will go down in history as a leader in off-road 4-stroke development and advancement. Much like Powroll, DG, MX-Fox, FMF, Wheelsmith, Uptite Racing, and the rest---Pro-Tec was instrumental in engineering REALLY TRICK STUFF for your bike. Their roller/spring chain tensioners were the industry leaders when long travel suspension made it's debut. What many people probably don't know is that Bengt Aberg, Torsten Hallman, and Pierre Karsmakers were instrumental with assisting Skip Clark / Pro-Tec develop a slew of REALLY TRICK 4-stroke Motocrossers back in the 1970's. It was Pro-Tec and Torsten Hallman that came up with the now world famous HL500 Yamaha's. Pro-Tec also sponsored many riders like Ricky Johnson, Rocket Rex Staten, and Pierre Karsmakers during their foray into the world of 4-stroke Nationals motocross.I purchased this bike from ex-factory racer/employee/and son of original engineer/founder of Pro-Tec (Skip Clark). This bike sports some extremely trick and one of a kind pieces. Built for competition and product testing in '86, this bike has: one off twin-spar boxed works aluminum airbox with twin K&N filters, works exhaust including large diameter TITANIUM twin header with SuperTrapp alum. silencer, Pro-Tec hi-performance cam & larger valves w/S&W h/d springs, 610cc kit including Pro-Tec high compression piston (now has manually operated decompression release instead of production automatic version), ultra trick ATK twin roller aluminum chain guide system (keeps contant tension on chain w/no lash), original LEATHER Pro-Tec seat cover in great shape (no rips--still soft). Lots of special Ti titanium & aluminum bolts were found during resto. Top secret Pro-Tec internal fork & shock mods were installed to produce improved race damping and longer suspension travel. This bike sits about 3" taller than a stock TT. Has vintage Answer Products chromoly bars (Hannah bend) & new Renthal grips. Ohlins rear shock and KYB forks have been valved & sprung for PRO LEVEL motocross (very stiff). Includes an almost new vintage Metzler front and new Dunlop rear knobby. All original plastic has been restored (no aftermarket plastic--this is all OEM Yamaha that came on bike in '86). John Clark stated that this was the only bike that Pro-Tec built that year like this. Many of these trick parts were developed for testing and evaluation prior to actual production. The airbox and header system were considered 'not-viable for production' due to their exorbitantly high costs to produce, but the ATK chain drive system made it to actual production. Also, the dampening rods/controllers in forks were developed into production units as well. Bike has NO numbers anywhere on frame or motor. John stated that many of the motor's internal bits were factory OW Yamaha 'works' pieces made out of billet aluminum and titanium as TEAM YAMAHA supplied many one-off bits to Pro-Tec for development & testing on the TT's. This bike is a truly awesome piece of motocross race history. Here is a one of a kind bike for your vintage MX collection that cannot be replicated.NOTE----This bike has HUGE compression and is a real bear to start. Has MONSTROUS horsepower and extremely stiff, PRO-LEVEL suspension. This bike was built for Expert/Pro level Motocross riders only. No beginners or intermediates should try riding this bike. It is a TALL and POWERFUL BEAST!!! This bike is very much like the bike Ricky Johnson raced on and won with during the 4-Stroke Nationals in the mid 80's. Note the similarities between this bike and RJ's 4-stroke Nationals winning Pro-Tec 600. Although the bike for sale here IS NOT THAT BIKE, they are almost identical in every way. Also included is a photo of the bike as purchased from John Clark prior to it's restoration (last photo). Bike is ready for YOUR RACE PREP prior to riding or racing it.Please look at photos and ask questions (USE zoom FEATURE).
