In the 1960s, far from civilization and regular roads, stripped down desert bikes based on Triumph twins and fitted with high level exhausts, dirt bike tires and suspension were being used for hard recreational fun and competition on tough terrain. The Scrambler takes its inspiration from these very bikes. They were highly competitive and most famously were used by Hollywood superstar Steve McQueen for pleasure and in full competition. Including the 1964 International Six Day Trial (ISDT) in East Germany. We built the Scrambler to evoke that spirit of freedom and escape, carefree times when all you needed was a bike and somewhere to ride.StylingThe Look: Lean and basic, just as the originals were, the Scrambler reflects the look of 1960s Triumph twins, converted by their owners for off-road riding in deserts and open scrubland where the power of the engines could be used to the full. With its cut down mudguards and black engine finish, the Scrambler has a classic, rebellious style that is loved by so many riders.Engine: Based on our Bonneville the Scrambler's engine is the classically styled parallel twin, as handsome as those 1960s originals, fitted into a tubular steel cradle frame, just as it should be.Exhaust: High level twin chromed stainless steel exhaust pipes and evocative heat shields are inspired by the 1960s Triumph TR6C Trophy Special.Wheels: The wheels are wire-spoke with black rims and hubs and wear dual-purpose tyres. The front is 19 inches in diameter to give that authentic off-road look.EnginePerformance: For the Scrambler we retuned the 865cc eight-valve engine to give you more torque at very low revs. It peaks at a strong 68Nm at 4750rpm but keeps producing useful thrust much lower than that, with 90 per cent of its torque on tap from as low as 2500rpm. The power maximum is 59PS, enough for you to get up to all kinds of fun.Configuration: Powered by a special version of our twin-cylinder Bonneville engine, the Scrambler is air-cooled and styled like the 1960s originals yet quietly bristling with 21st century technology to ensure it's efficient, durable and easy to use. Each cylinder has four valves, all operated by double overhead cams making for quieter operation, more accurate valve control and high rev reliability. And the exhaust meets all noise emission regulations but it's free breathing with a note that gives the Scrambler its unique character. So you get a proven and reliable engine, which is the most fuel efficient in our range. We gave the Scrambler a voice of its own with a crankshaft that differs to the Bonnevilles with a 270 degree firing order. So you get an encouraging, off-beat sound from those twinned high level pipes.Fuel Injection: It even looks as if it comes with old-style carburettors, but we’ve disguised the thoroughly modern fuel injection system, which along with the double overhead cams and contemporary internals makes this a highly fuel efficient, as well as engaging engine.ChassisFrame: With the exhausts lifted high out of the way it's possible to see the traditional tubular steel, twin cradle frame in all its glory. Classically styled but strong enough to meet modern handling expectations. The engine is bolted in to lend its own stiffness to the frame which creates a ride that’s light, predictable and completely engaging.Suspension: The pair of chromed shocks we put at the back look classic on the outside but are modern inside. Giving you balanced and effective damping for comfort and controlled handling. And the front forks wear traditional rubber bellows to protect against dirt, while the stubby front mudguard is just like those you would have fitted in the 1960s.Brakes: We matched the Scrambler's performance perfectly with a single front disc, providing progressive, confident stopping power without overwhelming you.Wheels and Tires: Only wire spoke wheels would do for a classic like the Scrambler so that's what we've fitted, now with eye-grabbing black hubs and rims. There's a 19 inch diameter rim at the front to add to the authenticity and style. On those are block-treaded tires, another nod towards the off-road look but with excellent on-road performance in all conditions.Handling: Built to be light and agile yet reassuringly stable when the going gets bumpy. We made the Scrambler forgiving enough to be easy and natural for inexperienced riders but sharp and responsive enough to satisfy even if you’re coming to the Scrambler from larger or sportier machines.Riding Position: The riding position has its roots in off-roading too. We gave the Scrambler high and wide black finished handlebars and footrests raised for better ground clearance. It sits you tall and upright so you are in command either riding around town or cruising along in the country and enjoying the view. It also gives you fine control of the bike when you're hustling it through corners and slipping through traffic because it’s so responsive, obedient and easy to control.Seat Height: The traditional long, flat seat of the Scrambler not only looks the part, it means riders of all sizes can find the ideal position to sit just by sliding into the most comfortable place. This works for the passenger too. There's plenty of room behind the rider without being forced into a single position - snuggle up or sit back, either is fine.FeaturesJust as desert racers and enduro riders in the 1960s took Triumph twins and personalized them for off-road fun and competition, we started out with the standard Bonneville and modified it to achieve the classic Scrambler look. As well as studying closely the original Triumph TR6C Trophy Special from the late 1960s, the bike which inspired the Scrambler's high level exhausts. The current Bonneville itself made its first appearance in 2001 when it was powered by the first 790cc version of the retro parallel twin, but when the Scrambler appeared in 2006 we fitted it with the latest 865cc engine, to achieve the strong torque at low revs we were after. After that it was a case of researching the archives and adding features to give the Scrambler its convincing 1960s style, while ensuring it still rode like a modern Triumph should.Key AccessoriesSingle Seat and Rack: Integrated single seat and rack kit, features branded single seat unit with white piping, gloss black rear seat finisher and built in Chrome luggage rack.Skid Plate: Brushed alloy skid plate for the heritage race feel, clear anodized for durability.Headlamp Grille: Chrome plated headlamp grille for the traditional ‘Classic Scrambler’ look. Provides protection for the headlight whilst adding to the retro appeal of the Scrambler.Warranty and ServiceOur confidence provides you with a two-year unlimited mileage warranty on your new Triumph and Genuine Accessories. Alongside the knowledge that we give you a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty on replacement parts. The Scrambler carries 6,000 mile (10,000km) service intervals.Engine and TransmissionType: Air-cooled, DOHC, parallel-twin, 270 deg. firing intervalCapacity: 865ccBore: 90 mmStroke: 68 mmSystem: Multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection with SAIExhaust: High level stainless steel headers with twin chromed silencersFinal Drive: X ring chainClutch: Wet, multi-plateGearbox: 5-SpeedOil Capacity: 1.2 gal.Chassis Running Gear and DisplaysFrame: Tubular steel cradleSwingarm: Twin-sided, tubular steelFront Wheels: 36-spoke 19 x 2.5inRear Wheels: 40-spoke 17 x 3.5inFront Tire: 100/90 19Rear Tire: 130/80 17Front Suspension: KYB 41 mm forks, 120 mm travelRear Suspension: KYB chromed spring twin shocks with adjustable preload, 106 mm rear wheel travelBrakes Front: Single 310 mm disc, Nissin 2-piston floating caliperBrakes Rear: Single 255 mm disc, Nissin 2-piston floating caliperInstrument Display and Functions: Analogue speedometer with odometer and trip information.Dimensions and CapacitiesLength: 2213 mmWidth Handlebars: 860Height without Mirror: 1202 mmSeat Height: 825 mmWheelbase: 1500 mmRake: 27.8 deg.Trail: 105 mmTank Capacity: 4.2 gal.Wet Weight: 230 kgPerformanceMax Power EC: 59PS @ 6800Max Torque EC: 68NM @ 4750Fuel ConsumptionUrban: 46.0 US mpg56 mph/90 kph: 60 US mpg

2006 Triumph Scrambler coming soon For 2006 the parallel twin-cylinder Scrambler adds a new twist to the ModernClassics range and is a fresh take on some iconic bikes from Triumph? s past. It? s aredefinition of the bikes made famous by 50? s thrill-seekers such as Steve McQueen into a contemporary urban context. A ? do anything go anywhere? kind of bike inspired in part by the relaxed culture ofsunny California and in part by the stylishness of southern European scooteraficionados the Scrambler has been specifically developed for a particular group ofriders currently underserved in the market. While diverse in their demographics and riding experience these riders share theview that motorcycling is great fun socially acceptable and a liberating experience.Crucially though they aren? t interested in riding fast and are not motivated byperformance or other benchmark figures. As a result these riders desire a bikethat? s easy and unintimidating to ride with or without passenger in the rough andsmooth parts of town or out and about on a longer jaunt. Added to this is a wish forthe bike? s design to make a distinctive personal statement that appeals to and isunderstood by both their biking and non-biking peers. Enter the Scrambler. Very few motorcycles can claim to be unique but the Scrambler thanks to itsauthentic styling is certainly one of them. The flat seat small headlight and singlespeedometer help mark its difference as do the pair of upswept exhaust pipes. OnlyTriumph with the brand? s strength and sense of its own history could crediblyproduce such a machine creating a whole new niche of motorcycle in the process. The Scrambler? s 865 cc DOHC 8-valve air-cooled engine uses a 270? crankfiring interval for a smooth and torquey power delivery. With a bore and stroke of90 x 68 mm and compression ratio of 9.2:1 the engine also features twin carburetorswith throttle position sensors. Peak power of 54 bHP arrives at 7 000 rpm (withmaximum torque of 51 lbs. ft. available at 5 000 rpm) and is fed to the rear wheel via a5-speed gearbox and chain final drive. Using a sturdy tubular steel cradiatorle frame and long-travel suspension front andrear ? 41 mm telescopic forks and twin chromed spring preload-adjustable rearshocks ? the Scrambler is built tough to iron out the bumps. Its high widehandlebars and high-set footpegs further aid control and low-speed maneuverability. The wheels are spoked and sized 19 x 2.5 in. (front) and 17 x 3.5 in. (rear). Both wearlight-knobby tires in sizes 100/90-19 and 130/80-17. Twin piston calipers are usedfor both brakes the front working a single 310 mm disc the rear a 255 mm disc.Steering geometry is set at 27.6? of rake with 103 mm of trail with a wheelbase of59.1 in. The Scrambler has a dry weight of 451 lbs. Fittingly for such an individual machine a whole range of Triumph Factoryaccessories will be available for the Scrambler all of which enhance its looks as wellas adding functionality. They include a skid plate to protect the underneath of theengine headlamp grill number boards for the sides (obviously with no. 278 as anoption) Tachometer handlebar brace and a single seat and rack. Two paint schemes? Two-tone Caspian Blue / White and Two-tone Tornado Red / White underscore its retro appeal. The Scrambler like its forbears has a distinct look feel and personality all its own.It offers iconic style genuine usability and above all a great escape (pun intended? )from the hum drum of every day. I am moving my family to the west coast and unfortunately as we cut back on things to ship I've decided my 2006 Triumph Scrambler needs to be sold. The bike is the white/red version, in great condition, and has never given me any issues. I purchased it used from Clinton Cycles in 2009 with 2,885 miles on the bike, and today it is up to 5,937. It was last professionally serviced at 4,186. The bike is stock, with the exception of the Triumph headlamp grille that I added. It has never been dropped or involved in any accidents. I have just taken the bike out of storage (where it was kept covered in a protected area, run and moved periodically, with fuel stabilizer in the tank), and it runs as well as ever. I want whoever ends up with this bike next to be as happy with it as I have been, so want to avoid any surprises. The only issue that I know of is light cosmetic corrosion on 3-4 screws and on the valve covers, the most noticeable of which is pictured below. Also, I cannot locate the second set of keys at this time, but will update the post if that is resolved. Otherwise I don't know of any other issues to flag for those interested. Asking $3,900, for pick up on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Included free will be $215 of accessories, including: 1) Triumph headlight grill ($95), Haynes service manual ($35), 3) OnGuard lock ($30), and 4) CoverMax cover ($55). I also have the excellent Ventura Aero-Spada VII luggage system, including travel racks and bag, that is for sale with the bike or separately. Asking $300.
