This 1963 Studebaker Avanti was sold new in Rancho Santa Fe, California, to a Mr. R.B. Mann. He owned it until 1971, when he gave it to his daughter, who kept it until 2008. The extensive delivery documentation, receipts, DMV registration documents and Studebaker National Museum build invoice show an impeccable and traceable provenance for this car. . This car is extremely original, with mostly original paint, matching numbers engine, original interior ( with minor and accurate seat bolster repair ) original Black California license plate, and original and excellent dashboard. . The next owner in 2008 purchased this car from the original family, and he embarked on a campaign of significant mechanical restoration and improvement so the car could be driven reliably. . Here's the Avanti Owner Service Policy card for R.B. Mann, the original owner! . . In 2008, the next owner, an auto shop technical instructor, took the engine out and re-sealed the front and rear main seals, he cleaned out the freeze plugs and water passages so it would cool properly, and changed the cylinder head gaskets. Substantial work was done on the front suspension, and the brakes were completely gone through. The tires were also replaced. Many of these receipts are included with the car. . The result of all this work is a car that can be driven comfortably and confidently on a 90 mile round trip to the San Marino Concours d'Elegance, where it was shown in the post-war preservation class. You could have your choice of Glasspack style mufflers, which were a bit on the rumbly side, or "Silent Mufflers" which were more traditional mufflers. Also note the Engine number, 1904, which we'll see on the engine below. . There was some paint and body repair done on the rear of the car, you can tell the paint shade and other clues. . Hiline includes a COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA VEHICLE EMISSIONS INSPECTION REPORT and A THIRD PARTY INDEPENDENT MECHANICAL INSPECTION REPORT with every vehicle sold. Hiline wants you to be aware of book value prices such as Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds and NADA. The older the vehicle is usually presents a greater disparity between the book value and the actual wholesale value. The main reason resides in the fact that older cars have much more history to account for in terms of ownership, prior repairs mechancially/cosmetically and overall market conditions which sometimes appreciate or depreciate certain cars in accordance to market trend. These values are often highly inaccurate and no in-person inspection is made by any of these companies to determine a vehicle’s actual value. A vehicle’s value is determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, availability of the product, mileage, color, options, desirability, residual value and overall condition. Most of these books are depreciating cars in relation to MSRP, mileage, and assumed depreciation over time. It is simply impossible to value an automobile based upon its numbers and ignoring its condition because no two vehicle’s are ever treated identically over their operational life. Therefore, the only accurate indicator of value is assessing what a vehicle is consistently selling for at a dealer auction at the specific time you are purchasing. This price is both objective and subjective because many of the prices on the auction listings include vehicles which may be damaged, buy backs, inoperative, or suffering from any other issue which will compromise selling price.  Hiline participates in auctions throughout the entire country on a daily basis and therefore has accumulated knowledge of what a quality pre-owned product is, what it looks like, what to look for in terms of hidden issues for the types of vehicles it specializes in selling, and the appropriate price for these vehicles. If something exists on a Carfax or Autocheck report pertaining to an accident, then feel free to call us, and we will let you know what (if anything) has been repaired. Simply call us, and we will give an accurate assessment of what (if anything) has been repaired. However, Carfax may give a vague account of an incident without clarifying specifics. We usually have the Accident Record from the Police Department if it is attainable. If you call us, then we will tell you exactly what (if anything) has been done. With gorgeous coachwork designed and constructed by Pietro Frua on a strong, rigid tubular frame with fully independent coil spring suspension built by AC Cars and derived from the coil spring Cobra 427, the AC 428 was a serious competitor to Jensen and Aston Martin, with performance comparable with the European exotics from Ferrari and Maserati at a fraction of the cost. The chassis was developed from that used in the legendary Cobra 427, but with bigger, stronger longitudinal tubes and a 6-inch longer wheelbase with four-wheel coil spring and wishbone suspension along with a limited slip differential. Power came from Ford’s FE block 428 cubic inch V-8, similar to that found in the Galaxie and the Shelby Mustang GT 500. It had immense torque — 426 lb-ft in any form — and 345 to 475 horsepower in highly tuned form. The 428’s gran turismo character lent itself to the police package specification C-6 3-speed automatic, and the vast majority are fitted with this transmission. In the end, only 81 AC 428’s were built, of which 50 were sleek, aerodynamic fastback coupes like this right-hand drive 1968 example. It is Buyer's sole obligation to independently verify the Vehicle's prior use or designation prior to purchase, if these items are material to Buyer. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle as well as to research title and accidents history and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to make a purchase decision based upon that judgment solely. (b) Disposition of Trade - Buyer agrees that immediately upon Buyer's execution of this Order, Seller may dispose of Buyer's Trade in any commercially reasonable manner, including the sale of the Trade to a third party, retail or wholesale. In the event that this Order is not completed for any reason or in the event that it is rescinded for any reason, Seller agrees that Buyer may retain the proceeds of the sale of the Trade to offset its damages, if any. If Seller does not have any damages relating to rescission or failure of this Order to be completed, Seller may retain any costs and reconditioning expenses relating to the sale plus a 15% commission on the sale from the sale proceeds. The remaining amount shall be delivered to Buyer in full satisfaction of any claims relating to the Trade.(c) In the event that Buyer pursues any claim for rescission of this transaction, Seller shall have the right to set off against Buyer's damages or to assert as an independent claim, a claim for the reasonable value of Buyer's use of the vehicle, including depreciation and mileage of the Vehicle. If any term of this Order is held to be unconscionable or unenforceable, for any reason, by any court of competent jurisdiction, this Order shall be construed as if such clause were never a part of this Order and the balance of the terms of this Order shall be binding on the parties. The waiver or invalidity of any provision of this Order shall not effect the binding nature of the remaining provisions. No breach of this Order by Buyer shall be deemed waived unless such waiver is agreed to by Seller in writing. The parties agree that any modification of this Order must be made in writing and signed by the parties in order to be valid. Buyer agrees that Buyer's deposit on the Vehicle is non-refundable, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by Buyer and Seller.In addition to any other breaches of this Order, the following expressly constitute acts of default under this Order: (a) The refusal of any financial institution to finance any portion of the purchase price; (b) The failure of Buyer to make any payment required under any accompanying finance agreement; (c) The failure of Buyer to provide Seller with a lien free title to any Trade or the failure of Buyer to pay Seller any amount in excess of the payoff on the Trade after demand from Seller; (d) Any misstatement or misrepresentation by Buyer, whether intentional or not, on any document submitted to Seller in connection with this transaction. (e) The refusal of any financial institution to honor any check, draft or other instrument presented by Seller in connection with the acquisition of the Vehicle.
