It is remembered today as Honda's first sportbike. It is a landmark model in Honda's advances in Western motorcycle markets of the 1960s, for its speed and power as well as its reliability, and is regarded as one of the bikes that set the paradigm for modern motorcycles. The CB77 had, at only 305cc, a relatively big engine in comparison to most other Japanese bikes of the period, although it had performance to rival much larger motorcycles from other countries. It quickly built a reputation for reliability, and was equipped with luxuries such as an electric starter. The CB77 was built on the experience Honda had gained in Grand Prix racing, and differed greatly from previous models. It had a steel-tube frame instead of the pressed frames of earlier Hondas, and a telescopic front fork. The parallel twin engine (the biggest then available in a Honda) was an integral element of the bike's structure, providing stiffness in a frame that had no downtube, and was capable of 9,000 rpm. It could propel the bike at over 100 mph; as fast as British parallel twins with higher displacements, and with great reliability. It is now regarded as 'the first modern Japanese motorcycle...that established the motorcycle paradigm that we still operate under now, more than forty years later. Honda also produced a lower-powered 247 cc (15.1 cu in) version called the CB72 Hawk, which otherwise had the same specifications. In 1962, Honda introduced an off-road bike, the CL72 250 Scrambler, with the same engine as the Hawk but with a different, full-cradle frame with a skid plate and other adjustments for off-road use. In 1965, the CL77 305 Scrambler appeared, with the (bigger) engine of the Super Hawk but otherwise similar to the CL72

This NOS OEM Honda Left+Right one-piece virgin exhaust system of mufflers and pipes, diffusers, and mount brackets, is brand spanking new-old-stock and ready to race at Nelson’s Ledges, Mossport, or your favorite track… just add wheels. Fresh as the day it was born in Japan it traveled across oceans to the USA. Only to still wait years, patiently to begin it’s work. This original issue brand new CB77 exhaust system has never seen a breath of exhaust or the business end of a bike. But represented the pinnacle of engineering by Honda to solve a problem on CB77 Super Hawks and Hawks of vibrations cracking mufflers. Per the exceptional Bill Silver manuals (a must have) it’s ingenious latest one-piece system redesign saw “the mufflers have an internal stiffener plate with two studs extending towards mid-line of the bike. Special thick flat-steel plates offered separately were attached to these studs, which were formed to adapt to the two original rear-mounting points on the chassis. The left side pipe/muffler interior is painted white, the right side gray. This one-piece pipe and muffler design the (#670) is the best because the last EPA design (#677) which came just after the (#670) had the baffles (silencers) often welded into the muffler then chromed over. These systems may suffer rotting problems cause the baffles can’t be removed especially if the pipes were not warmed up enough, and if drain holes became clogged. Even Bill acknowledges it’s probably best to ride with muffler baffles removed for a freer flowing exhaust that expels moisture quicker and internally dries up faster. The quick bottom line for non-reading folks:This NOS CB77/72 rarer original muffler/pipe system is practically non-existent and about as near pristine as you may ever find (look at pics please). The usual shelf wear exists from 47 years of warehouse living. I have not polished system so don't know if much or all polishes out. There are on left muffler-one dime sized bump, a smaller tiny one, and under the front mount bolt looks like a manufacturing factory flatter area (can't tell cause chrome is good). Best of my knowledge here, and maybe knit-picking but rather that than disappointment. Your clear title is a bill of sale. So near perfection here. Maybe a best CB77 exhaust system in the universe, possibly on planet earth. The #670 one-piece systems were so strong they were often taken off new bikes and traded out for 2 piece systems. They are the rarest of the rare as Honda didn’t make tons of them and were used on stock delivered bikes till near the end of the CB77 run starting at 1050970 till 1056084+ or the end of the CB77 run. This ultimate strong Honda Factory OEM one-piece muffler/pipe assembly offered here is the #670 system: (includes extras) LEFT pipe/muffler part # 18400-268-670 (pre-EPA #677) RIGHT pipe/muffler part # 18300-268-670 (pre-EPA #677) Includes: see pic 1) NOS Muffler L/R mount brackets (2) (and nuts, washers) (2) included (often seen on ebay approx $100.a pair) part #'s R- 18353-268-000 and L- 18354-268-000 2) NOS Muffler diffusers L/R (2) and 6mm bolts (2) included approx ($70.00 a pair NOS) part # 183-259-010 Shipping: domestic parcel select or UPS to West coast approx $150-200. (+ plus or -minus), insurance: (not taking any chances with priceless items) and tracking will advise exact amount within approx 24 hours after item packed with your domestic zip code info. Best case is pick-up and we can hold for you for mutual agreed upon time. Also some trucking companies could pick up and put between two larger bikes. for international Worldwide shipping email copyright 2006-14 ad copy, titles, research, references, pics too, intellectual property thanks USDOJ (infringement/restraint of trade)
