So your getting old.... To hard to kick start that old piece of crap Knucklehead or panhead you've been riding all these years... Well BOOM!!! I got the bike for you! Its a very original 1966 Harley FLH Shovelhead... Oh boy is she a dresser! Story goes, an old guy back in 1968 was in the same boat. He too was tired of kick starting his old knucklehead... He searched high and low for one of those new shovelheads with electric start. even went down to the dealership and they where sold out. No luck. He ran an ad in the paper... Something like this.... "Trade my old dump of a 1936 knucklehead with cash for a newer Harley with an electric start." He met a "young fellow" that needed the $200 and knuck and a deal was struck... The bike only had 1800 miles on it but that wasn't personal enough.. on the way home from doing the deal he decided to make one stop.. He swung by a buddies and had he letter it up for him.... "The Southland Playboy" He was stoked... When he got home.. His wife wasn't so stoked... She made him rub the "play" off the bike... He rode "the dickens" out of this bike, never laying it down or abusing it through the 70s when it seemed everyone (all his buddies included) was chopping these old bikes up. He would periodically add a little trim or gingerbread as he called it... But never much more then stuff that would bolt on. I got the bike from him..... When I got the bike is had obviously been sitting awhile... Why, I didn't know. But I was assured it ran when parked. With the odometer reading only 24k I figured it was the case... After a pretty good once over I cleaned the original one year only carb and fired it up...... Clank clank clunk... OH NO! I decided this bike was way to neat to "restore" but its originality deserved some love....... I tore the engine down piece by piece... examining along the way... What could it have been making the noise? Low and behold it was a broken piston skirt... WOW lucky me! So while The heads where off I checked some other tolerances and gazed at this beautiful unmolested bike... every nut, screw, shim, bearing and bolt where original and never been stripped or messed with... It was a Zen like experience for me.. Im usually fixing other peoples years and years of "fixes" This bike came apart and went back together like a cake walk! She got a well deserved... New crank pin, rod and wrist bushings, both pinion shaft and drive shaft along with NOS 10 over pistons.. Not to mention all new gaskets, bearings and seals. Now typically I bead blast and clean to like new condition for a complete rebuilt. This time I washed in soap and cleaner only the outside while cleaning the inside brand new.. Hours and hours I spent preserving the "patina'' on this crustoration! (I also sent the original speedometer off to be rebuilt for its new heart needed a time clock!) I lapped the original valves and replace the springs with NOS Harley springs.. Kept her as original as it could be! So what we have now....... This bike is AWESOME! It rides like your sitting on top of a cloud.. Purrs like a kitten and growls like a scalded dog! I would not hesitate to drive this bike anywhere! Its originality is beyond my belief. it has all the proper type hardware and period covers, knobs and controls. Sure its got nicks and a few dings and dents... But its sporting all the important 66 only parts. Do your research, ask me questions, beg your wife! do what ever you need to do to get this old girl... I'd even trade you for that piece of crap knuckle you've been riding... (plus a little cash of course) Upgrades like this you gotta pay! So my plan is to run this classified ad from now til Davenport swap meet in Iowa labor day weekend.... (if you haven't been you gotta go) If the bike doesn't sell from now til then I will auction it off when I return.. That being said.. If we make a deal before then I can deliver to the meet or anywhere within reason between here and there assuming you have payed... Do I really think this bike is worth 16K? I think its worth every penny! Will I take less... You bet I will.. Lets make a deal.. But lets keep in mind that these bikes aren't everywhere and defiantly aren't as cool as this old bagger! Your chance to own the first year shovel and second year electric start!!! Shipping.. As I said we can meet, you can have it picked up or Ill haul it to davenport..... The mileage will go up as long as the weather is nice I will continue to break in the motor... Message me here with any questions or give me a ring. 336.324.0083

Bought this 80 shovelhead off ebay last year as part of a LOT. The bike did not have any tanks and most of the primary drive parts were in a box. We serviced the engine and tranny , cleaned the carburetor and installed belt drive primary. Did not go into the motor so have no idea what has been done to it. The mileage listed is what shows on speedo, I am not aware of actual mileage. This old shovel leaks a little like most all the other shovels. I own probably as many shovelheads as anyone I know of, as I have at least one FL 66 thru 85 ( yes 85 shovel the motor company made 200 shovels for police in 1985 ) , and at least one FX 71 thru 84. I am selling this 80 model FL because I have another nice 2A which is 1200. If it was a factory 80 cubic inch I would probably keep it. This bike very well may be bumped to 80 I do not know. This bike does crank and run and shift thru all the gears. With a little more tinkering and some paint it would make someone a decent run around bike. Like a mentioned I have several bikes and right now I am willing to sale several. I have a 1912 original motor in a 1910 style timeless chassis, a 1933 RLDE original restored, a couple more 40s flatheads, a couple knuckles, a few panheads, two Indians , the shovels mentioned above, a few evos and some twincams . 1966 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide , Up for sale is a rare early 1966 FLH shovelhead. $11,000.00 O.B.O. This was the first year the shovelhead was introduced by Harley Davidson. This bike is 99% original. the gas tanks are half year only factory tanks with the petcock on the right side. the rest of the sheet metal is also original. with the bike is a half year only DC-7 Linkert carb they installed from the factory. I have run a S&S super E for the past several years which is currently mounted on the bike. I was informed the by a good friend who has been in the New York City motorcycle world for a long time, and also long standing member of the AMCA that the grab rail on the buddy seat was made by a club in Brooklyn in the early 70's. also included is an OEM solo seat. The speedo is original and works, however the odometer does not. New battery installed. The numbers are clean and original and registration is in my name. The Date code on the heads is 07-66. fog lights are original guide lights. Compression just measured 100-110 psi on both cylinders. All in all, this is a very well preserved rare Harley Davidson. In the past, I have ridden this bike quite a bit throughout the northeast, however have 3 other bikes, and am wanting to start another project, so I am putting this up for sale. Sold AS-IS. All sale final. $500 deposit with 48 hours, balance due in 7 days. $11,000.00

Engine 1200

I'm selling my baby, a 1955 Harley-Davidson Panhead FL1200 Chopper/Bobber that is brand spankin' new from the ground up. The only original parts on this scoot are the 1955 engine which has been rebuilt and the transmission (4-Speed w/all new Andrews gears). This bike was built to resemble the chopper/bobber bikes of the 60's and early 70's that were owned by outlaw motorcycle club members. This particular bike was built to closely resemble a bike that was ridden by Peter Fonda in the movie "The Wild Angels" (1966, 3 years before he made "Easy Rider"). I saw this movie in '66 when I was riding a Honda 305 Superhawk. Well, mister, I fell in love with his Harley chopper. Someday, I vowed to build a chop like that one. Skip ahead many decades of owning Hondas, Triumphs, and Harleys (over 20 something motorcycles), I find this 1955 panhead in my home state, and decide to finally build my dream bike. After I bought the bike, I tore it completely down and started with a new frame and front end and new sheet metal, and so on. This scoot is completely new with all new parts from motorcycle parts companies like Drag Specialties, Paughco, V-twin, Custom Chrome, and J&P Cycle Products. The engine is a true 1955 H-D Panhead motor with the original cases which are in great condition (one small broken fin on one of the heads). The horn bracket tab has been ground off, (but could be replaced if desired), and the exhaust ports were changed to shovelhead exhaust ports to secure the pipes better (but could also be restored to the original ports). The engine was completely rebuilt, top and lower ends, by a professional Harley mechanic with over 30 plus years of experience. He worked at Sea Coast Harley Davidson of New Hampshire. I have the paperwork on the rebuild and the rebuilder's name and phone #. This engine starts easily with a brand new S&S E shorty carb and manifold. It runs very strong and sounds sweet with the 30 inch straight fishtail pipes. No problems with this motor. The tranny was rebuilt with Andrews gears, by the previous owner using a professional Harley mechanic. It is a 4-speed tranny and it runs good and is very tight, no slop. It is loaded with new chrome parts, and some of the special features are: A new replica early panhead frame from V-twin, which has been powdercoated black, complete with crossover tube to run mechanical front brakes (you can also change to hydraulic or disc). A new replica chrome Springer offset front end, stock length (made in the Netherlands, I heard). A new chrome mechanical front brake hub for the Springer front end. A new chrome mechanical rear brake hub w/new axles and spacers front and rear. All new wheels with replica 5 star hubs w/timpken bearings and stainless steel spokes. All new Avon 21" and 16" Speedmaster and Safety Mileage tires with the "ol skool" look. All new sheet metal, including the split 3 1/2 gallon fatbob tanks and the rolled edge rear fender by Paughco All new old style wiring harness. New Flanders type dog bone risers (4 1/2") New: chrome coil, oil tank and mount, panhead covers (Paughco), pushrod tubes and covers, horn, inner and outer primary covers (Paughco), all forward controls and linkage, Cadillac taillight, with plate lights, etc., etc., etc. The king/queen seat was not new, but bought on ebay, and is from the 60's or early 70's and was in fantastic shape for the year, but I had it recovered in tuck and roll upholstery. It has a steel frame and is an original LePera seat from Cal. The inner primary contains a 1 1/2" Primo belt drive, especially made for Panheads with outer primary covers. It also has a new clutch. Rear drive is a new Tsubaka chain. This bike has gone thru a quality build from the ground up. I had the final assembly done by a professional mechanic, who owns two Harley Panheads of his own, and had been building them for most of his adult life. The speedometer is new and has a speedo cable, but is missing a gear drive in the tranny to make it work. So, the speedo is not registering any mileage or speeds, sorry. This too can be corrected with the right gear. The paint job is a beautiful blue pearl metallic, and was done by a local painter, and yours truly did the flame job (I'm an airbrush artist). The color changes in the sunlight from a pretty turquoise to a bluish purple. Check out the photos. This bike is a definite head turner and gets thumbs up wherever it goes This bike is registered as a 1955 Harley-Davidson FL1200 motorcycle. I have the frame numbers certification, but you can register it as a 1955 Harley, without presenting the frame certificate. If you want more information on this bike, please call Barry at 978-249-7571. If you want more photos of this bike, or how it looked before I tore it down, send me your email adress, and I'll send you more photos. Thank you for your interest in my "ol' skool" scooter.

The Harley-Davidson® Seventy-Two™ motorcycle is a metal flake dream machine, a Sportster® on a trip back to the days when the cool kids rode a Sting-Ray and the big boys parked choppers in a row on the curb. Those motorcycles were long and lean; candy-apple color and gleaming chrome shimmering in hazy summer sunlight. From its Gold Chroma Candy Flake paint and ape bars to its narrow whitewall tires, the Seventy-Two is a respectful nod to that era, and to the influence of the custom culture that still percolates today along Whittier Boulevard, the legendary cruising street in East Los Angeles also known as Route 72. THIS BIKE IS LIKE NEW, TRULY!! ONLY 67 MILES AND READY TO ROLL. BIKE IS 100% STOCK. SAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OVER NEW!! A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN THIS BIKE AT AN UNBELIEVABLE PRICE..... The only question left is do you call it a 2013 Harley-Davidson Sportster 72 or Seventy-two? 2013 Harley-Davidson XL1200V Seventy-Two Key Features NEW Paint color options • Powertrain is finished in Gray powdercoat with chrome covers • Chrome, eight-inch round air cleaner cover • 2.1-gallon Peanut Tank with lightening hole mounting bracket • Dunlop® white wall 21-inch (MH90-21) front and 16-inch (150/80B16) rear tires • Chrome Steel Laced wheels • Stainless steel mini-ape handlebar, mounted on a two-inch high riser • Chopped rear fender • One-piece, Sportster® classic solo seat • Side-mounted license plate • Solo seat with black textured vinyl cover • Handlebar-mounted speedometer with chrome cup • Chrome rear fender struts • Chrome coil-over pre-load adjustable rear shocks • Forward foot controls 2013 Harley-Davidson XL1200V Seventy-Two Features and Benefits The Seventy-Two motorcycle offers a classic Sportster® 2.1-gallon fuel tank, narrow whitewall tires, Chrome Steel Laced wheels, and high mini-ape handlebar that complete a look that nods to chopper custom motorcycles of the 1970s and to current trends in garage-built custom motorcycles. • Air-cooled Evolution® 1200cc V-Twin engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), rated at 73 ft. lbs. peak torque at 3500 rpm • Rubber-mounted powertrain to reduce vibration • 5-speed Transmission • Chrome, staggered, shorty dual exhaust with slash-cut mufflers • Disc Brakes • Optional factory-installed Harley-Davidson® Smart Security System with hands-free, proximity-based security fob Retro Air Cleaner Cover This 8-inch, street legal, mirror-chrome air cleaner cover makes a powerful statement that recalls the glory days of old iron crossed with a clean, contemporary look. Whitewall Tires and Laced Wheels Large (21-inch front) lace-spoked wheels with their bold brilliant white walls complete the old school low-rider look. Hard Candy Custom Color New for 2013, Hard Candy Custom™ paint is a large metal flake finish that’s more than just paint job, it’s a shining declaration of independence—bright, bold and unique. This Sportster Seventy-Two features the Hard Candy Coloma Gold Flake. Recalling the iconic rebel styling of ‘70s custom bikes, Hard Candy Custom™ paint marks another milestone in The Motor Company’s legacy of innovation. We start with several passes of 200 micron flake over a black base, then clear coat it, hand-lay the graphics, and apply the many layers of clear coat to allow the flake to shine through. It’s a painstaking process that delivers a premium custom look straight from the factory, so you can start flying your colors with no waiting or extra effort. Classic Peanut Fuel Tank First appearing on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle back in 1948, the small 2.1 gallon tapered peanut fuel tank holds strong today with its traditional styling and modern attitude. A low, powerful bulldog look that gives way for showcasing more engine, the peanut fuel tank is attitude and looks all balled up into one. Mini-Ape Hanger Handlebar Grab ahold of the stainless steel mini-ape hanger handlebar and put your fists up into the wind--itll take you back to the glory days of chopper cruising. And to keep the look cool and clean, the wiring is routed inside the steel. Classic Rear—Modern Functionality The chopped rear fender with side-mounted plate completes the Seventy-Two™ models long, low chopper look and keeps things classically clean and raw. The chrome bullet taillights combine this old school retro-styling with new school technology, packing stop beams, turn signals and running lights into each lamp. Evolution Engine Heritage The Evolution® engine—known in certain crowds as the Blockhead—was first bolted to the frame of a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle back in 1984. Born from legendary Shovelhead and Ironhead engines, the Evolution® engine broke new ground in displacement innovation while maintaining the hunger for power, durability and proven reliability that The Motor Company was built on. Evolution® Engine Innovation Air-cooled and durable as hell, the 1200cc Evolution® engine is yet another nod to the unwavering work ethic that drives advancements in motor technology at Harley-Davidson. Aluminum heads and cylinders lighten the load of the bike and improve air-cooling efficiency. Electronic fuel injection says goodbye to carburetors and boasts increased reliability and less routine maintenance. Bottom line: the rubber-mounted Evolution® engine runs hard and rides smooth for thousands of miles so you can just worry about taking in the freedom of the open road. Pure Harley-Davidson Styling Feast your eyes on the 1200cc Evolution® engine and theres no mistaking its roots. This is authentic Harley-Davidson style through and through with an attention to detail you wont find from any other motorcycle company. Black powder-coated cylinders and cylinder heads are topped off with chrome rocker covers and an old school round air cleaner cover for a tough vintage Harley-Davidson attitude. Its a jewel machined out of metal. Pure. Dripping with power. From the classic edge of the cooling fins to the clean lines of cases and covers—the 1200c Evolution® engine makes an ironclad statement to holding on to whats right and staying true to what satisfies the rider. H-D Smart Security System (Optional) The factory installed next-generation security system features a hands-free fob that automatically arms and disarms the vehicle electronic security functions as you approach and walk away from the bike. Stick the fob on your ignition key ring and let it do all the work. Its this attention to details and security that make Harley-Davidson® motorcycles unique. Artfully Hidden Technology Harley-Davidson leverages the latest in technology without compromising style and function. That means we hide electronics. The whole wiring harness is skillfully routed behind the jewels of the bike—the tank, engine and all the other eye-popping features you want to see. Its just another way The Motor Company goes the extra mile to give its bikes that premium, top-of-the-line fit and finish. Intuitive Controls Hand controls on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle are incredibly intuitive. The turn signals are self-canceling and, based on the speed and angle of the motorcycle, they know how long to stay on. Engaging the controls quickly becomes second nature so you can focus less on turning off your signal and more on basking in the freedom of the ride. Tuned to be Ridden Harley-Davidson® motorcycles are different from any other bike out on the road. Theres a balance to them. The steering, the maneuverability—its all in concert. And each Harley-Davidson® model is tuned differently to create a unique riding experience for each individual no matter which bike they swing their leg over. Lets face it, we didnt get to where we are by being like everyone else. Forward Mounted Controls With the custom forward-mounted controls, you can kick back a little and stretch your legs for the ultimate cruise through town or across the state line. Its time to take in the open road the way you were meant to—on a two-wheeled machine thats built to outdo the rest. Seat Engineering and Design The seat is home for Harley-Davidson® motorcycle riders. They want a seat that has unique style without sacrificing comfort. Because of that, Harley-Davidson invests a lot of time in researching, designing and testing seats so that every bike has just the right saddle. 2013 Harley-Davidson XL1200V Seventy-Two - USA Specifications/Technical Details DIMENSIONS Length 87.4 in.
