For Sale: PS1000LE, this is a close to new machine with less than 100 miles on it. This was built as a show bike for dealership and spent most of its life being pampered with soft towels, polish and wax. If your looking at this auction you know what it is so no need to go into the boring details. What you dont know is how special this bike is. I will try to recall all the stuff done to the bike but it has been a long time and im sure to forget something. What i can tell you for sure is this bike MOVES. Stock these bikes were about 88HP at teh rear wheel and this bike is well over that. It was dynoed at 112hp. This is not a FLASHY look at me type of build. This is a very conservative looking bike built with the best parts available. It was built to perform and not to get attention. Anyone who knows motorcycles will immediately see the value in this bike but it is not obvious to those who don't know. Parts and work done to bike we all done by the best Ducati mechanic in the USA. The 2nd to last photo shows the fit between the tank the frame mounts. As you can clearly see there is no gap so the tank is not loose and fits tight as new without that goofy spacer kit Ducati supplied to all their loyal customers to fix the warped expanded tank issue. This tank should get coated prior to regular use if your going to run pump gas, as mentioned this has only ever had race or aviation fuel so no ethanol issues. The motor was built to run on pump gas. As you can see in the photos the intake ports were welded shut and remade to be a direct shot into the cylinders. Ducati uses long intake tracts which rob the motor of power. This modification allows the intake charge to shoot directly into the cylinder with no obstruction. These heads have never been duplicated and the guy who did them no longer does motorcycle heads. He was one of the best in the world. The fuel has always been race fuel so there has been no expansion of the fuel tank, as you can see in the photos the pucks are tight and fit perfectly as new. Tank still has the OEM warning stickers on it. Im not sure what else to say about this bike other than the fact that I was out riding with my friend on his Desmosedici and we did a 2nd gear roll on race and it took him 1/2 mile and he finally passed me at about 130MPH. He was shocked how fast the bike was and could not believe that it took off and pulled away from his D16RR. Obviously the bike does not get ridden and that is why im selling it. I have a lot of other bikes that also do not get ridden and am trying to narrow down my collection to 2-3 bikes. If you have any questions please contact me. Most of the parts on this bike are no longer avaiable and they were seriously expensive to begin with. The heads would cost $7500 to duplicate alone, the exhaust was $5500, Calipers $5000. IOf you add up just the parts you have about $33000 including the head work, this does not figure in any of the 30 hours of labor which would be another $3000. I will entertain offers but please don't insult me. This bike in stock form with 56 miles would sell for 18-20K alone. Bike has not been titled but will come with 2 black keys, one red key and the MSO ( Certificate of origin ) as pictured. There is no warranty on this vehicle. I can provide a video of it running that was filmed on 4/21/14. Belt service should be done and the belts are more than 2 years old ( I think I put new belts on 4 years ago but would for sure change them ) There are bound to be thing that i have forgotten about the bike and will not be held liable or responsible for incorrect information, omissions and or errors in this listing. Just like on the 1098, the new cylinder heads benefit from fewer components and include magnesium covers.For the first time ever, this Testastretta Evoluzione engine sees the introduction of a special technology for the construction of the engine crankcase: Vacural casting. This is a forced vacuum die casting method that allows jet characteristics to be improved thanks to the absence of porosity, gas inclusion and oxidation. This allows extremely high measurement precision and greater ductility for aluminium alloy. Designers have been able to harness the benefits of this innovative process by redefining the shape and the wall thickness of the new crankcase by means of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) checks, which allowed the required reliability standards to be achieved, while simultaneously obtaining a significant weight saving of 3.5kg.The 848 engine is fitted with a silent modular wet clutch, characterized by an exceptional resistance to wear that will lead to superior duration. CHASSIS Trellis frame Developed in cooperation with Ducati Corse, the 848 Trellis frame has a simplified tube layout featuring main section tubes increased in diameter from 28mm to 34mm, while being reduced in thickness from 2mm to 1.5mm. The result is a 14% increase in rigidity and a weight saving of 1.5kg (3.3lbs). Single-sided swingarm The 848, as all the Superbike family, is equipped with a unique single-sided swingarm. The engineers were encouraged to re-think the construction technique of this element. The solution was to produce the main operational components using individual aluminium castings so as to ensure strength around the pivot points, wheel hub and suspension links, with fabricated aluminium sections used to complete the construction into a single, beautifully engineered component. Rear suspension Highlighting the way in which individual components are influenced by each other, the new lightweight Trellis frame and single-sided swingarm have enabled a more compact and further weight-saving rear suspension linkage system to be used featuring separate lower pick-up points for the push-rod and suspension unit. This tandem design effectively reduces stress around the linkage pick-up area of the Trellis frame. Working together with this highly efficient linkage is a fully adjustable Showa single shock for the 848, the same as the 1098. Front suspension At the front the new 848 is equipped with fully adjustable 43mm Showa forks with radial mounts. This type of front suspension is professionally track-tuned and offers superior road holding, delivers superior feedback, and helps every rider to be more confident and in control. Called the Ducati 848, the new bike was essentially a smaller-displacement version of the larger 1098, which was released the same year. Coincidentally, the 2008 Ducati 848 will set a few precedents in its manufacturers history. The 2008 Ducati 848 represents the first time that a bike from Ducati uses a wet clutch. This was a swift departure from the dry clutch used on previous machines, which is a device built for performance and characterized by its noise. The wet clutch, on the other hand, emanates less noise, is lighter, and provides longer service intervals than the dry clutch. With this device installed on the 848, Ducati was placing less emphasis on a closed course circuit feel for its street racing-oriented sport bikes. The wet clutch of the 2008 Ducati 848 is harnessed to a six-speed manual transmission, which means that Ducati still wanted to retain the excitability of driving a sport-oriented bike. The gearbox is paired with a four-stroke longitudinal-twin cylinder, four-valves-per-cylinder desmodromic engine called the ""Testastretta Evoluzione."" The engine is where the bike gets its three-digit suffix; it displaces at 849.4 cubic centimeters (rounded down to 848). The 2008 Ducati 848 generates 134 horsepower at 10,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 70.8 pound-feet of torque at 8,250 RPM. The bore and stroke is measured at 3.7 by 2.41 inches, or 94 by 61.2 millimeters. Also, Ducati integrates a liquid cooler to each 2008 Ducati 848 engine to prevent overheating and consequently malfunction. Peak fuel capacity for the bike is 4.1 gallons. The compression ratio is 12:1.The valve angle is the same as the 1098 engine and diameter is 39.5mm for the inlet valve and 32mm for the exhaust. The desmodromic control system has also been designed with the weight and the inertia of the new components in mind, allowing extremely efficient valve lift during intake and exhaust phases. The excellent results achieved are confirmed by the engines power figures, producing outstanding performance thanks also to the use of MotoGP-derived elliptical throttle bodies, which have been fitted to the 1098 engine.The design of a dedicated elliptical throttle body for the 848 demonstrates the attention that Borgo Panigale engineers have devoted to the development of the Superbike range. The cross-section is reduced from the 60 sq. mm of the 1098 to 56 sq. mm so as to optimize fluid dynamics at every engine speed. Just like on the 1098, the new cylinder heads benefit from fewer components and include magnesium covers.For the first time ever, this Testastretta Evoluzione engine sees the introduction of a special technology for the construction of the engine crankcase: Vacural casting. This is a forced vacuum die casting method that allows jet characteristics to be improved thanks to the absence of porosity, gas inclusion and oxidation. This allows extremely high measurement precision and greater ductility for aluminium alloy. Designers have been able to harness the benefits of this innovative process by redefining the shape and the wall thickness of the new crankcase by means of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) checks, which allowed the required reliability standards to be achieved, while simultaneously obtaining a significant weight saving of 3.5kg.The 848 engine is fitted with a silent modular wet clutch, characterized by an exceptional resistance to wear that will lead to superior duration. This solution makes a useful contribution to weight saving, estimated to be around 1.6kg, which is also due to the use of a different type of clutch cover.The high power figures achieved by this engine also come from the use of the same type of oil cooler and coolant radiator as the 1098s engine, with an increased surface area assisted by lightweight, high flow electric fan assemblies.Finally, the 848s exhaust system follows the same layout and uses the same innovative technology as the 1098. The system terminates with Ducatis trademark twin under-seat silencers, delivering the unmistakable signature sound of the big bore 90 L-Twin. This power unit, just like all the other Ducati engines, has been designed to comply with Euro 3 exhaust emission norms. CHASSIS Trellis frame Developed in cooperation with Ducati Corse, the 848 Trellis frame has a simplified tube layout featuring main section tubes increased in diameter from 28mm to 34mm, while being reduced in thickness from 2mm to 1.5mm. The result is a 14% increase in rigidity and a weight saving of 1.5kg (3.3lbs). Single-sided swingarm The 848, as all the Superbike family, is equipped with a unique single-sided swingarm. The engineers were encouraged to re-think the construction technique of this element. The solution was to produce the main operational components using individual aluminium castings so as to ensure strength around the pivot points, wheel hub and suspension links, with fabricated aluminium sections used to complete the construction into a single, beautifully engineered component.
