Long before the café resurrection of the past few years, this custom built, one-off, BMW was winning awards and winning over crowds everywhere it went. Fred Zust, then manager of TouringSport, a premier motorcycle dealership in Greenville, SC acquired the bike as a trade-in. The bike was initially a bike that he did not want to take as a trade but eventually warmed up to an idea that it would make a café –racer. There are numerous changes to this bike, they easily go unnoticed without having reference. Once you start to add up all of these significant changes you will see why the bike received a “Best Engineered” award at the Airheads Invitational at the Barber Motorsports Park and “Best of Show” for Cycle Worlds's Rolling Concours at the Honda Hoot. The tired power-plant of the 1978 R100S was transformed by then technician Barry Crowe. The high performance mill received dual plug heads, high compression pistons, lightened flywheel and an updated electronic ignition took the place of the old points and condenser. The engine was then repositioned in the frame, approximately two inches higher and farther forward for better weight distribution and greater cornering clearance. These changes made the oil filter inaccessible so to make maintenance easier, the right downtube was lugged to make it removable. Barry Crowe fabricated a billet aluminum spacer take the place of the additional space created by the move.Additional tubular frame braces tie the steering head to the swingarm pivot. With the addition of the braces the fuel tank required trimming and the tank follows the line of the new braces. Ed Johnson handled the tank modification as well as the the one-off, signed brake fluid reservoir. A frame mounted headlight sourced from an RS compliments the clip-ons. The headlight housing was modified to accept a Drag Specialties tach. The upper aluminum triple clamp was originally a lower triple clamp, where is was turned upside down and took the place of stock flat steel part used to reside. A set of Race Tech cartridge emulators and a CC Products brace improve the performance of the stock fork. A Shendig steering damper helps minimize the headshake. Rounding out the suspension the factory snowflake wheels have been upgraded to dual discs up front and single disk out rear. The wheels have been powdercoated along with the frame.A set of Dunstall replica pipes make this bike sound phenomenal. A custom seat, stitched by local Greenville company Bucket Stitch, compliment the composite Knoscher replica seat with LED taillight. While this spotless example of engineering ingenuity is beautiful enough to put on a pedest

1985 BMW K100 (1000cc) with 8,300 miles on it!!!!!!!! Rare bike with unheard of low miles. In looking around at other bikes for milage I have yet to see one with less then 16,000. I have seen them with as many as 100K. History:I am the second owner of the bike. It had been stored in a dry garage 20-25 years by my neighbor. It was promised to me when I was old enough and upon my neighbors passing. I put 2,000 miles on it my self in weekend riding. Service:Immediately upon taking the bike out of the garage it was broken down by my personal mechanic with vast knowledge on old bikes (records are included.) The previous owner had fogged the cylinders and drained the gas tank. The gas tank is stainless steel and looks like the inside of a beer can. The suspension was broken down and seals replaced. The fuel pump worked but was replaced as a precautionary measure as well as all rubbers replaced. Injectors were cleaned though were fine. Tires were replaces and a brand new front tire with no miles is on the front now (must have caught a small puncture last fall ride.) All drive fluids and components were greased and oils changed. Radiators were flushed out. Brake master cylinders were taken apart and rebuilt. Brake systems flushed through. Defects:A slow speed drop from the previous owner that occurred in the driveway. Mirror has shallow scratches. Left fairing has 1 hairline crack that is 3 inches long easily glued. Left fairing is chipped away as seen in pictures. Very easy sanded over and repainted. I never got around to doing either because I was never concerned by this. Otherwise bike is in excellent condition with no tears, scratches, dents etc to be found.HandlingThis bike handles like a dirt bike once its moving. It feels flick able in all the right ways and as light as a bike half its cc size. The rubber in the handlebars are still in very good condition and take a lot of the vibration and other discomforts sometimes experienced on older bikes. The bike leans well in turns and can comfortably get pegs close to ground. It shifts very smoothly and the brakes work great. Reason for selling:Moving to the big city and if this had 60k on it It would come, but the city trashes bikes and I couldn't heart to do so. This would make a great bike for any touring enthusiast. The trunk bags can fit a ton and I have used it for commuting. They come off very easy and hinges work great.

This frame off custom BMW R100 began as a 1978 BMW R80/7 and was designed to maintain the classic styling of pre-war BMW racing motorcycles while having the performance and handling of a more modern machine. To achieve this, the engine has milled heads, higher compression and dual plugging; giving it a bit more power and torque with reliability. The clutch and transmission are completely rebuilt to stock specifications. There is a longer rear drive on the machine to allow for lower revs at highway speeds given the 1,000cc engine. The front forks have been built with Racetech cartridge emulators which provide more predictable, stable handling combined with Hagon rear shocks. It has a midly aggressive riding position with clip on handlabrs but the bike is comfortable for 100 mile runs through the country. Much of the aesthetic was borrowed from the /5 series BMWs, the gas tank, side covers, seat, forks, front drum hub wheel and brake, tail light and turn indicators, knurled /5 polished levers, switch gear controls are from this classic generation and style. The bike has a motogadget instrument (made in germany) and Hoske replica silencers. It has a very deep, throaty sound without being too loud. Gloss black paint and hand pinstriped in BMW off-white on the fenders and gas tank with BMW factory tank knee pads finish off the look of this incredible classic motorcycle. No expense has been spared in the design and construction, full stainless steel hardware even in places you can't see. The look, feel, sound and ride experience of this bike is pretty desirable. The feel is long, low and lean; timeless. This bike was built by Darrell Faulkenberry (Owner of Second Wind) and belongs to one of our staff.

This is a lot of bike for the money. It is in exceptional condition for its age and runs excellent. 1978 R100RS. I believe I am the 3rd owner but do not know the history prior to the person I purchased it from. The frame VIN does fall within the range of MotorSport models but I don't know if this was one originally. It does have the correct black side covers for a MotorSport. The engine VIN is 6160368 which I believe is a 1977 1000cc big carb engine and runs excellent! In fact it is probably the best running/strongest BMW I have owned. Very fast and smooth. Shifts through gears as it should. It does not show any signs of abuse or being parked outside in the elements. Gauges are clean and not faded or discolored. It has been painted all white at some point and the paint is in very good condition. Fairing doesn't show any signs of previous damage. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly: GOODExceptional condition for a 41 year old motorcycleGauges work properly and look excellent- not faded or discoloredCables are all good and not crackedEverything works as it should- all switches, lights, alarm, hornStarts instantly, choke works as it shouldRuns excellent- NO smoke at start, doesn't use oil, seems to be a low mile/strong motor, very clean Tank inside is very clean, no problems/rustWindscreen is in excellent conditionWheels are in excellent conditionNo oil leaksNo fuel leaks- all hoses replaced recently Original manual is hereOriginal tire pump is hereNo dents in tank or front fenderAll plastic- headlight cover, turn signal, brake light, all very nice. BADThe tires are about 5 years old, tread is good and there are no weather cracks, I personally do not ride on tires over 6 years old.Pin striping is not correctExhaust has some scratches and minor dings.Missing "R100RS" sticker on rear cowlingOne keyThrottle cable and choke boots missing at carbsBottom of seat is par/average for age- originalRubber around tool storage tub top Is in bad shapeMost tools- not complete set UGLYThe seat has a small tear that has been repairedThe rear seat hinge is broke where it connects to the seat I have listed in detail everything I know about the bike to help you evaluate if this bike is for you. I am brutally honest and I am also very picky.I assure you this is a very accurate and thorough description. You will have NO surprises. In the past couple of years I have sold 7 motorcycles (4 were "70's" era BMW's) The buyers have always told me without exception, the bike was better than they expected. This is the way it should be. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you want pictures of anything specific. I would be happy to do a "FaceTime" to help you make your decision.I have a video of starting the bike and doing a walk around so you can hear it run. Link below. Includes Off Road Tires, Spoke Wheels, Htd Grips, & ASC The BMW R nineT Scrambler. Honest. Untamed. Air-cooled. Feel the wind, lean into every curve and experience the freedom in every mile you ride – the BMW R nineT Scrambler empowers you to do your own thing. Tough, unconventional, and against established standards. Made for true characters who want their bike to be pure and minimalistic. See, hear, feel. The unique sound of the R nineT Scrambler is a real attention grabber. The classic 1200 cc boxer engine and its high-positioned dual silencer give the bike a powerful voice. Compared to the R nineT, the handlebars are placed higher and the comfortable seat is repositioned. This ensures a confident and relaxed seating position for every rider. In combination with the slightly longer spring travel, you'll overcome rough spots with ease. No limits. Dual sport tires, a high exhaust system, and a relaxed, upright riding position help the Scrambler keep riding where the pavement ends. The 19-inch front wheel, the analog tachometer, a purist steel tank in monolith metallic matte and other unique details turn the Scrambler into a high-quality classic. And with just a few steps you can give the R nineT Scrambler your own individual touch. Pure Scrambler. Pure BMW Motorrad. The R nineT Scrambler is at the highest level in matters of safety, reliability and quality. Standard ABS and optional ASC provide extra safety. Make your statement with the R nineT Scrambler.
