Long before the café resurrection of the past few years, this custom built, one-off, BMW was winning awards and winning over crowds everywhere it went. Fred Zust, then manager of TouringSport, a premier motorcycle dealership in Greenville, SC acquired the bike as a trade-in. The bike was initially a bike that he did not want to take as a trade but eventually warmed up to an idea that it would make a café –racer. There are numerous changes to this bike, they easily go unnoticed without having reference. Once you start to add up all of these significant changes you will see why the bike received a “Best Engineered” award at the Airheads Invitational at the Barber Motorsports Park and “Best of Show” for Cycle Worlds's Rolling Concours at the Honda Hoot. The tired power-plant of the 1978 R100S was transformed by then technician Barry Crowe. The high performance mill received dual plug heads, high compression pistons, lightened flywheel and an updated electronic ignition took the place of the old points and condenser. The engine was then repositioned in the frame, approximately two inches higher and farther forward for better weight distribution and greater cornering clearance. These changes made the oil filter inaccessible so to make maintenance easier, the right downtube was lugged to make it removable. Barry Crowe fabricated a billet aluminum spacer take the place of the additional space created by the move.Additional tubular frame braces tie the steering head to the swingarm pivot. With the addition of the braces the fuel tank required trimming and the tank follows the line of the new braces. Ed Johnson handled the tank modification as well as the the one-off, signed brake fluid reservoir. A frame mounted headlight sourced from an RS compliments the clip-ons. The headlight housing was modified to accept a Drag Specialties tach. The upper aluminum triple clamp was originally a lower triple clamp, where is was turned upside down and took the place of stock flat steel part used to reside. A set of Race Tech cartridge emulators and a CC Products brace improve the performance of the stock fork. A Shendig steering damper helps minimize the headshake. Rounding out the suspension the factory snowflake wheels have been upgraded to dual discs up front and single disk out rear. The wheels have been powdercoated along with the frame.A set of Dunstall replica pipes make this bike sound phenomenal. A custom seat, stitched by local Greenville company Bucket Stitch, compliment the composite Knoscher replica seat with LED taillight. While this spotless example of engineering ingenuity is beautiful enough to put on a pedest

FOR SALE: 1992 BMW R100R. This is pretty much the end of the line for the Air Head BMW Boxer Motor. This is the most refined of the Air heads and becoming quite collectible as not many are around in low mileage good condition. This bike has been well cared for and was recently (Summer/fall 2014) completely gone thru including: Oil and Filter ChangeBrake Fluid FlushTrans and Shaft FluidsOEM NOS Rear ShockFuel Tank relined by GTL in California (Warrantied)Fuel Petcocks rebuiltFuel lines replacedAir pump system rebuild with NOS pumpNew Air filterCarbs Disassembled and cleaned in Ultrasound Tank ( all needed gaskets replaced)New Basttery The only thing this bike could use is a new set of tires. These are just starting to check but have decent tread. I dont have much to say about this bike other than it is a very clean, reliable nice survivor. I have seen this bikes sell as high as $14,000 and priced this bike accordingly knowing that it will need tires and has a few small defects on the paint. The largest of the defects is a very light scraping on the RH side of the fuel tank and most of it will be able to be removed by wet sanding. If your looking for a classic modern BMW this is the bike. I will assist with shipping anyway possible, bike is for sale locally and auction can be ended at any time. I would encourage you to come see it in person if you are within driving distance. Bike comes as pictured with BMW Hard Bags, manuals, extra keys ect and Clean/Clear PA Title. Thank you, Best Ducati Parts Thanks for taking the time to look at our auctions, we have a full inventory of Ducati OEM parts new and used. Please contact me for anything you may be looking for at lesliegr (at) comcast.net. Please look at our other auctions at any time we may be selling a rare Corsa or Bevel part to the mundane everyday nus and bolts. Please do your research before purchasing as we do not take returns on any items. Feed back is very important to us as an eBay seller so if something does not go as planned please let me have a chance at rectifying the issue before you just give bad feedback and forget about it. I like to have happy customers that will shop with me again and if you do not make us aware of an issue we may not even know you are unhappy. Chances are that if we know about the issue we will be able to reach a mutually agreeable resolution, but only if we know about the problem. Our only bad feedback was by someone unhappy about something that he never made us aware of and it would have taken 2 seconds to fix the issue and make him happy. Thanks, Bestducatiparts

This is a lot of bike for the money. It is in exceptional condition for its age and runs excellent. 1978 R100RS. I believe I am the 3rd owner but do not know the history prior to the person I purchased it from. The frame VIN does fall within the range of MotorSport models but I don't know if this was one originally. It does have the correct black side covers for a MotorSport. The engine VIN is 6160368 which I believe is a 1977 1000cc big carb engine and runs excellent! In fact it is probably the best running/strongest BMW I have owned. Very fast and smooth. Shifts through gears as it should. It does not show any signs of abuse or being parked outside in the elements. Gauges are clean and not faded or discolored. It has been painted all white at some point and the paint is in very good condition. Fairing doesn't show any signs of previous damage. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly: GOODExceptional condition for a 41 year old motorcycleGauges work properly and look excellent- not faded or discoloredCables are all good and not crackedEverything works as it should- all switches, lights, alarm, hornStarts instantly, choke works as it shouldRuns excellent- NO smoke at start, doesn't use oil, seems to be a low mile/strong motor, very clean Tank inside is very clean, no problems/rustWindscreen is in excellent conditionWheels are in excellent conditionNo oil leaksNo fuel leaks- all hoses replaced recently Original manual is hereOriginal tire pump is hereNo dents in tank or front fenderAll plastic- headlight cover, turn signal, brake light, all very nice. BADThe tires are about 5 years old, tread is good and there are no weather cracks, I personally do not ride on tires over 6 years old.Pin striping is not correctExhaust has some scratches and minor dings.Missing "R100RS" sticker on rear cowlingOne keyThrottle cable and choke boots missing at carbsBottom of seat is par/average for age- originalRubber around tool storage tub top Is in bad shapeMost tools- not complete set UGLYThe seat has a small tear that has been repairedThe rear seat hinge is broke where it connects to the seat I have listed in detail everything I know about the bike to help you evaluate if this bike is for you. I am brutally honest and I am also very picky.I assure you this is a very accurate and thorough description. You will have NO surprises. In the past couple of years I have sold 7 motorcycles (4 were "70's" era BMW's) The buyers have always told me without exception, the bike was better than they expected. This is the way it should be. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you want pictures of anything specific. I would be happy to do a "FaceTime" to help you make your decision.I have a video of starting the bike and doing a walk around so you can hear it run. Link below. Regretfully decided to sell my pristine 1983 R100RS. This is a desirable twin shock model. Very clean, very well maintained, and soon to be classic, and ready to ride anywhere. I am the second owner. 450 watt Motorrad Elektrik charging system - easily powers heated vest, grips (not included) and makes plenty of light at night. Recently detailed. Previous mechanic stated "...no one has ever turned a bad wrench on this bike..." i.e. nothing rounded off or banged on, just the way it left the factory in '83. Rare solo seat (now on bike) and original OEM twin seat at well; OEM System Cases. System cases are key matched to ignition. Kathy's Kordura (Bob's BMW in Maryland) inner bag liners for System Cases; also includes inner faring pockets. This is a clean, ready to ride motorcycle. Tires are good for 4-5,000 miles. I would replace with Michelin's or Metzler for top performance. Bird hit at speed chipped faring; covered with "Abide" sticker (see The Big Lebowski for reference). Small chips, but you have to look. I'd give this bike an A-. Photos taken from rides around the South Eastern US. Wind Tunnel shot is from R100RS development in 1976. Buy it and ride it home. It's ready to go.
