He wasn't riding it much so he drained all the fluids and dry stored it properly for the last several years. We took it to our Airhead expert (who also did a Daytona R90s for us) and had him fully service and go through the bike. We spent over $2500 upgrading the bike and giving it a full mechanical refresh. The result is an excellent running and riding bike that is fully dialed in and has just been fully detailed as well. Here is a list of the work that was done: New center stand (previous owner had a ride-off stand)New battery Rebuilt front forks with new seals and new oilMount and balance new front and rear tires (continentals in stock size)Change engine oil and filterInstall new shifter seal on transmissionChange gearbox fluidNew fuel screens and hose ends and fuel lineClean up wiring, fuses and headlight, turn signals, horn wires and headlight wiresParking bulb wires. Install new brake master cylinder, rotors and new front brake lines (much better stopping power than any other R90s I've ridden.) New fuel, cleaned spark plugs and road test. I have all the receipts from Max BMW and my mechanic for the above work. The bike has very nice paint. There is one spot on the right side of the rear cowl behind the seat where some of the clear coat has peeled off (pictured) and there is one small chip on the tank (pictured.) This is an excellent authentic R90s that just needs to be ridden and enjoyed. Comes with tools and its original manual. Matching numbers. This model with triple matching vin# and in Dover White color is getting constantly rare and is believed to be one of the best vintage single cylinder machine produced by the BMW. This numbers matching, cosmetically original ( still has pinstriper initial under the tank), totally mechanically serviced, and sound BMW R27 clocks only 9K miles. This cycle has recently had top end re-sealed with new gaskets and seals. It starts easily and runs great. Motorcycle is a survivor quite cosmetically challenged condition as it has never been restored in any way except some touch-ups here and there. Matching triple serial numbers, original Dover White paint, Denfeld Dual seats and more......... This particular example is beautiful with many additions a real BMW enthusiast will appreciate. Ride as is or restore to pristine condition. Some history of the above mentioned motorcycle: "The BMW R 27 was manufactured on Sept. 1st of 1964 and was delivered to Butler & Smith in New York on the 21st of December 1964. The bike was equipped with a bench seat." "Based largely on the R26, in 1960 the R27 added rubber mounts for the engine and boosted power to 18 hp (13 kW). The R27's 250 cc vertical single was the only rubber-mounted thumper engine BMW ever produced, and was their last shaft drive single-cylinder motorcycle. The engine pumped out 18 hp (13 kW), the highest ever for a shaft-drive BMW single. BMW manufactured 15,364 R27 models (engine numbers 372 001 -- 387 566 ) over the production years of 1960 to 1966. Some of the 1966 R27 models were sold as 1967 models because dealers in those years often would assign dates to BMW motorcycles when they sold them, and not necessarily when they were manufactured. The vast majority of R27 motorcycles exported to the United States by BMW were black with white pinstriping. A few, however, were brought in by importer Butler & Smith in a color called Dover white, with black pinstriping. Why "Dover white?" Butler & Smith head honcho, Michael Bondy, had a 1942 Packard automobile in an off-white color called dover white. Bondy sent a sample of this color to BMW AG in Munich and asked that it be duplicated. BMW did copy the color, and Bondy ordered fifty motorcycles in that color. Today, BMW motorcycles in original dover white are a sought-after rarity. BMW did things differently from other manufacturers. This is evident in the R27. Its enclosed shaft final drive is rare for a single cylinder motorcycle. But it also had a triangulated Earles front fork (named after English designer Ernest Earles); so the motorcycle had a front swingarm as well as a rear swingarm. When you squeezed the front brake lever hard not only did the front end not dive, it actually rose slightly. Thus, braking was a very steady activity, though the brakes were weak by today's standards. The engines crankshaft was laid out fore-to-aft, not side- to-side; also a rare feature. This way, the crank and the final shaft were in line, and drive forces did not have to be run through a set of 90-degree gears. Also, the kick starter swung out sideways instead of parallel to the frame, so kick starting an R27 is a rather easy and danger-free affair." For sale or trade beautiful vintage 1964 BMW R27 "Thumper". One of only 50 Dover White R27's that have ever hit the States. This model with triple matching vin# and in Dover White color is getting constantly rare and is believed to be one of the best vintage single cylinder machine produced by the BMW. This numbers matching, cosmetically original ( still has pinstriper initial under the tank), totally mechanically serviced, and sound BMW R27 clocks only 9K original miles. This cycle has had only 2 owners from new, has been garaged kept and cared for it's whole life. Motorcycle is in Fair cosmetical condition as it has never been restored in any way except some small touch-ups here and there. Matching serial numbers, Low Euro Handlebars, Original Paint, Denfeld Dual Seats and more......... This particular example is beautiful with many additions a real BMW enthusiast will appreciate. Bike has been extensively gone through just recently by best Vintage BMW mechanic around, top end was sealed with all new base, head, and pushrod gaskets. timing was set, carb was rebuilt, oils all changed. Starts in one kick, runs awesome, quiet and rides like a dream. I purchased a new rear tire and will install it to match the front tire as soon as it arrives. Some history of the above mentioned motorcycle: The BMW R 27 was manufactured on Sept. 1st of 1964 and was delivered to Butler & Smith in New York on the 21st of December 1964. The bike was equipped with a bench seat. Based largely on the R26, in 1960 the R27 added rubber mounts for the engine and boosted power to 18 hp (13 kW). The R27's 250 cc vertical single was the only rubber-mounted thumper engine BMW ever produced, and was their last shaft drive single-cylinder motorcycle. The engine pumped out 18 hp (13 kW), the highest ever for a shaft-drive BMW single. BMW manufactured 15,364 R27 models (engine numbers 372 001 -- 387 566 ) over the production years of 1960 to 1966. Some of the 1966 R27 models were sold as 1967 models because dealers in those years often would assign dates to BMW motorcycles when they sold them, and not necessarily when they were manufactured. The vast majority of R27 motorcycles exported to the United States by BMW were black with white pinstriping. A few, however, were brought in by importer Butler & Smith in a color called Dover white, with black pinstriping. Why "Dover white?" Butler & Smith head honcho, Michael Bondy, had a 1942 Packard automobile in an off-white color called dover white. Bondy sent a sample of this color to BMW AG in Munich and asked that it be duplicated. BMW did copy the color, and Bondy ordered fifty motorcycles in that color. Today, BMW motorcycles in original dover white are a sought-after rarity. BMW did things differently from other manufacturers. This is evident in the R27. Its enclosed shaft final drive is rare for a single cylinder motorcycle. But it also had a triangulated Earles front fork (named after English designer Ernest Earles); so the motorcycle had a front swingarm as well as a rear swingarm. When you squeezed the front brake lever hard not only did the front end not dive, it actually rose slightly. Thus, braking was a very steady activity, though the brakes were weak by today's standards. The engines crankshaft was laid out fore-to-aft, not side- to-side; also a rare feature. This way, the crank and the final shaft were in line, and drive forces did not have to be run through a set of 90-degree gears. Also, the kick starter swung out sideways instead of parallel to the frame, so kick starting an R27 is a rather easy and danger-free affair.

WOOOO! Check this out. Low miles. This has a kilometer speedometer and was a European delivery for the Continent and registers its speed and distance in Kilometers! Speedo goes to 220!!! I have decided to part with my beautiful 1975 R90/6 BMW motorcycle. I have owned many BMW motorcycles over the past 40 years and I can tell you this is one of the finest year and models ever. The 900cc engine is considered to be the best airhead ever built. Smooth, powerful and balanced with its oem oversized flywheel, it goes down the autobahn at record speeds of its era with incredibly low fuel consumption. BMWs built between 1974 thru 1976 are considered to be among the most collectible including the most sought after of them all the R90S. This is a bike in which all of the parts on it have lived together for over 40 years. Everything is original with no reproduction parts. This is a totally OEM unmolested survivor, in completely original condition. Clearly the bike has always been garaged and has never seen inclement weather nor is there any damage history. The paint color is called Monza Blue and is rare and coveted. The optional large Euro tank with knee pads is most sought after. In this case the paint is 100% original and enjoys its full luster. The original alloy/ spoked wheels are perfect and shine beautifully. The mufflers, headers and matching Continentals are in excellent condition and will serve you well for years. The machine has enjoyed the following services over the past 500 miles. New starter and battery. All fresh fluids including oil and air filters renewed. The rubber boot behind the transmission which protects the universal joint has been replaced. The rear splines were inspected and found to be perfect. They were properly lubricated and reassembled. New spark plugs, condenser and point. Also, the fork oil and front brake fluid has been renewed. The rear brake is set correctly and the master cylinder has been re-sleeved for the front brake. The carburetors and fuel petcocks have been rebuilt and adjusted as necessary. Mechanically it is one of best, smooth running BMWs. The throttle is perfect with the Bing carburetors responding perfectly. The 5 speed is perfectly mated to the proper horsepower. The braking is spectacular. Far better than you would expect from a 30 year younger bike! It was also necessary to replace the seat pan with a far better example. You would have no way of knowing by inspecting it as it it is an original replacement part. Buy it and drive it. That is all you have to do to enjoy the summer riding season! This bike is equipped with a wonderful set of Craig Vetter saddle bags with chrome side rails. Yes they are huge and do take some time to get used to, however you will not see too many others on the road. The seat is original and enjoys its period correct grab rail. Also included in the sale of the bike is an original Luftweiser fixed fairing. This was painted and striped to match at the time of sale but has lived off the bike for decades. This is one of the finest BMW bikes on the market at any price. Watch and see, soon these mighty 900s will follow in the footsteps of the R69S and R90S bikes as well as well as the air cooled Porsche models from the same era and will command higher and higher priced. There are very few airheads which can be purchased for this price that actually run! Original tools, and tray included.
