In fact, this 1928 Auburn 8-88 Sport Sedan is your instant ticket to premium cars shows, where they'll park you next to its corporate brothers from Cord and Duesenberg. So this sedan already seems like a tantalizing proposition, even before you read how exceptional the condition is. The two tone coordinating colors of tan and brown give this one an instant regal appearance. The Auburn is unique, standing out with its horseshoe-shaped grille and stand-alone headlights, along with the split, crank out windshield, that gives it a distinctive look. Finish quality is exemplary, with doors that close with the most wonderfully solid sound, and the folding hood opens with ease and latches without a fight. Paint quality was most certainly not this good in 1928, but for a car designed to be noticeably premium, this one fits the bill perfectly. Chrome was used sparingly to show that the confidence of good design only needs small highlights on the grille, headlight shells, and door handles. The brown cloth interior has a great pattern that seems to represent the Roaring Twenties perfectly on the pleated seats. The whole interior is beautifully finished with clean stitching, and correct windlace around the doors. The handles and knobs look like jewelry, and the panels have gorgeous wood garnish moldings. Lovers of real wood should pay special attention to the dash, as it is a work of art. Overall, it's hard to find a piece that has been replaced (or needs replacing) in the nearly 90 years since this luxury car first left the factory. Luxury is often measured in rear seat space, and there's about enough legroom back there to make modern limousines jealous. It's handsomely finished, with delicate ashtray covers, ornate assist straps, and a robe rail behind the front seat. The Lycoming-built, 247 cubic-inch straight-8 engine makes a rather robust 88 horsepower. But the real key to this motor was the torque, which is why it was also the basis for the legendary Auburn Boat Tail Speedster that were some of the fastest cars of the day. It's the original motor with the car, and this powerplant is still connected to its original three-speed manual transmission. It will require a little double clutching (if you like 1920s cars, you're likely already a pro). This total package of high torque, and wide ratio gearbox, is happy to pull the big sedan around at barely more than a walking speed in high gear. Four-wheel mechanical brakes by Lockheed are quite effective for the period, and the single exhaust has a powerful-sounding eight-cylinder hum. The chassis is nicely detailed, and those glossy wooden spoke wheels are fitted with flashy Firestone tall white tires. This Auburn is just about ready to leave our showroom and head straight to concours events. The shockingly affordable price for this rare luxury just made this even more of an exquisite find. Streetside Classics strives to perform extensive visual inspections on all vehicles we represent but we do not disassemble vehicles or components for inspection purposes and therefore it is always possible that there is hidden damage that is not readily apparent. All vehicles are sold AS-IS with no warranties expressed or implied. After all, when was the last time you saw a 1922 REO T6B seven-passenger touring car? Ever? And just look at how complete, pristine, and ready to roll it is! You know Ransom E. Olds in one way or another. He was a brilliant engineer who can be named in the same breath as Henry Ford for bringing good quality cars to the masses. While many have driven an Oldsmobile, only a select few get to own a vehicle from his other venture, REO. This seven-passenger open touring car really shows off the best of the 1920s wood wheels, big headlights, and winged thermometer radiator cap. There's even a nice custom touch with the intricate custom bumper design. It's got that classic silhouette, but carries an interesting name on the front that faded long ago. This one is particularly striking because of the red paint that comes from a recent high end restoration. But this car goes beyond just an expensive professional respray. Most cars from this era have black fenders, but this one just looks much bolder with the bright red color shimmering over more of its sheetmetal. Inside is the kind of cleanliness that can only come from a quality restoration. Not only are the gray leather seats superbly comfortable, but they also have nice red piping that match the exterior paint. This same motif is repeated on the door panels for that added luxury touch. The folding roof even carries the same gray color. By now you've probably noticed the folding jump seats in the rear. That brings the total seating to seven comfortably, which makes this the perfect vehicle for everything from parade routes to something memorable for multiple family generations to ride in around town. Take one look underneath this car, and you can really see just how far the restoration went. The entire drivetrain appears like it's 1922, and fresh from the Lancing, Michigan factory. But more than just a colorful and compete engine bay, this REO is a true runner. You can advance the timing from behind the wood wheel, and once you're really rolling the torque advantages of REO's 239 cubic-inch T6 inline-six cylinder engine really begin to be felt. This is especially true thanks to the freedom of the floor-mounted three-speed manual transmission, and low gear ratio for plenty of get-up-and-go at low speeds. Here's a fun classic that is possibly the cleanest 90+ year-old you'll ever see. It's a turnkey old-time car, that can carry everyone for the price of an Oldsmobile, but with a much cooler story. Over the years, the storied builder of America's most coveted bikes has fully tapped our culture, inspiring t-shirts, tattoos and even other vehicles. In short: Harley-Davidson is more than just a motorcycle, it's a lifestyle. That said; it's the motorcycles that keep enthusiasts coming back. Nearly every year, model, frame and engine has its own set of diehards that swear by a particular Harley vision. But, no matter your preference, it's hard to deny the significance of a sweet bike like this 1948 UL Flathead. Restored by one of the best Harley gurus in the country, this world-class scoot is a shining example of why every gearhead loves a HOG. And if you're in the market for a little 2-wheel royalty, it's your first-class ticket to open road freedom! APPEARANCE Originally introduced in 1938, Harley-Davidson's UL Sport Solo line ran the gamut from broad-shouldered cruiser all the way to commercial utility bike. Lovingly restored, and kept on permanent display, this lust-worthy UL hasn't logged any miles since the last wrench was turned on its NOS Harley hardware. A mirror-like coat of black paint serves as the foundation for era-correct scallops that are detailed with red pin striping. At the front of that pigment, the dark vibes start with an NOS Harley fender, which parades NOS Harley trim and an NOS Harley light in front of a correct fuel tank. Simple and classically shaped, that attractive tank, equipped with a factory dash, breaks perfectly in to an NOS buddy seat that's propped on NOS buddy springs. That saddle hangs over a second NOS Harley fender that centers an NOS tombstone taillight behind an NOS Harley bumper. And overall, this UL features classy, retro-cool aesthetics that are sure to age just as well as their high quality components allow. ACCESSORIES Restored to mix timeless visuals with a roster of components that was tirelessly hoarded over many years, this HOG is a virtual Case Study in authenticity. Up front, a correct Springer fork rides between an NOS Beck headlamp, NOS Harley handlebars, NOS Beck throttle grips and a polished brake handle that controls a correct brake system. Behind those bars, NOS Harley pegs, NOS Harley running boards and NOS Harley mats let the rider kick back, stretch his or her legs and chase the sun. Beneath those components, NOS Harley exhaust hangs a finned tip behind NOS Harley slinky covers. And cool bits, like a polished horn, a yellow kick pedal and a vintage fire extinguisher, show that someone really sweated the details. CHASSIS By the late '40s Harley had successfully recovered from the Great Depression and kick started civilian production on the coat tails of World War II. The 1948 model year would be the last to use the Springer fork, but little else changed when it came to the bike's foundation. And, naturally, this UL has been fully rebuilt to era-correct status all the way down to its NOS shock absorber. That stiff suspension is great at ensuring the rider gets an authentic feel for the road. There's an NOS Harley electrical system that works well with an NOS Harley accessory carb choke. And everything rolls on NOS Harley rims, which twist NOS Beck tires around NOS hubs and NOS cadmium spokes. DRIVETRAIN After almost two decades of manufacture, Harley had tweaked their flathead engines into well-tuned running gear. That said; 1948 would be the last year of the Big Twin UL, as it and the brand's wildly popular 'Knucklehead' were replaced by an upgraded V-Twin that would eventually earn the nickname 'Panhead'. That means this bike's original, 74 cubic inch flathead was an interesting rarity even in its heyday. Naturally, that VIN-matched powerplant is outfitted with an array of NOS components, including aluminum motor heads and old school primary covers. Electricity still takes the shape of a 6-volt system, which is augmented with a vintage-look gel cell battery. And behind that zero-mile motor, a correct Harley 4-speed processes commands from an NOS Beck gearshift knob. In addition to great aesthetics, this incredible motorcycle provides an authentic riding experience that's sure to inspire memories for older bikers while creating plenty of adventure for young enthusiasts. Widely considered one of the most exclusive Harleys ever built, it only makes sense that a pristine example of the famed UL Flathead would make its way to the front of our legendary showroom. That means there's only one part of the story left to tell: the part where one lucky enthusiast rides their new classic in to a golden sunset.
