1972 DeTomaso Pantera L. This is a project car that we pulled from a garage out west, from what I have been able to piece together and the stack of newspapers that were stored in the car, it looks like it was parked in a garage sometime in late 73 not to see the light of day again till a few months ago. The prior owner was going to have the car painted and the project stalled out shortly thereafter. If your ready to start building your Pantera NOW this is the car for you, not a single speck of rust and a laser straight body. Unfortunately, a few minor trim items went missing between 73 and now, the most notable being the headlight buckets. We have both front seats, bumpers and windshield. You might be able to get a project car for a similar price somewhere but its easy to get upsides down pretty quick when you find out there is $20k of rust to be repaired. This gorgeous 1972 Pantera is the one to own if your idea of fun is actually driving it instead of rubbing it with a diaper, especially with an over-built stroker motor and a slick 2-tone paint combination. The Pantera is a curious, but not unprecedented mixture of Italian craftsmanship and American muscle, and when it was new, there just werent many cars of any kind that could keep up with it. Perhaps its because of that Ford DNA in its history that kept prices low, but today collectors are realizing that these cars deserve a spot in Italys illustrious supercar traditions. That also explains why this one received such a high-end restoration, which, although not totally stock, delivers on the promises made by the Panteras gorgeous bodywork. Black over silver accentuates the 1970s wedge shape, which has aged at least as well as the Ferrari 308 and still commands respect among aficionados. Fit and finish are probably better today than they were when the car was new and the two-tone paint seems to emphasize the American side of the Panteras genealogy, but theres no disputing that this car generates a ton of attention everywhere it goes. The interior is pure Italian, complete with the usual gorilla-style driving position and gated shift lever for the 5-speed manual gearbox. Leather buckets have attractive pleats and textured inserts and theyre surprisingly comfortable for long hauls. The instruments are housed in very cool twin pods with auxiliary gauges running down the center stack and the overall look is unique and very attractive. A leather-wrapped steering wheel feels suitably Italian in your hands and while the shifter takes some muscle and some familiarity, its quite rewarding to master. Youll probably never get tired of the sonorous V8 that inhales and roars just behind your head, but theres also a great-sounding AM/FM/CD stereo fitted horizontally, which is the only way it would work. Theres a bit of storage space up front in a nicely appointed trunk area, and a much larger trunk behind the mid-mounted engine, which is an impressive bit of packaging. The Pantera always used a 351 cubic inch Ford V8, but this one is powered by an all-new Ford stroker motor punched out to 420 cubic inches. Thats big block power in a small block package and the extra cubes make this car feel invincible on the street. It surely lives up to the promises made by the outrageous bodywork and with bulletproof Ford mechanicals, the Pantera is far from fussy and inexpensive to maintain, even for the do-it-yourself hobbyist. Its intimidating looking into that engine bay, but the engineering is solid and straightforward so if youve been under the hood of a Mustang, youll see a lot thats familiar here. The exhaust system is beautifully crafted and sounds downright nasty, and with a ZF 5-speed manual transmission its a joy to drive. A capable suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, and stock 15-inch aluminum wheels give it confidence on and off the track and it wears recent 205/50/15 front and 245/60/15 rear Michelin radials. The Pantera has become an A-list celebrity and this one with a frame-off restoration and a brutal powerplant makes the argument that Ferraris may be garage art, but Panteras are meant to be driven. I have an absolutely stunning 1973 Pantera L Model. The paint shines better then when it came out new. It has had one repaint in it's original color. The car has had all the required updates done by the previous owner who owned it over 15 years. It comes powered with its original 351 Cleveland engine that has 2000 miles on a complete rebuild. The engine has many upgrades in the oiling and cooling dept. so it will never have the problem the earlier ones had. It has a nice cam and aluminum manifold with a 850 Holley carb. Electronic ignition, headers etc. The ZF 5spd transmission has been rebuilt in order to make sure it will have many years of trouble free use. The engine compartment is stock with the undercoating still in tact and in great condition. The half shafts etc. have been replaced. It has a new AC condenser and fan, and up front it has an upgraded aluminum radiator with super sucker fans. This car actually runs so cool the fans never come on. The interior is all original along with the seats. It is all in great shape, no cracks in the dash. PI Motorsports wheels and tires round out this beautiful car. BTW it is a California built car and has been there all it's life until I brought it up to Oregon. I absolutely love this car, but need to thin the herd. This car has absolutely no rust and has always been garaged and taken care of by a car enthusiast. Do not mistake this car to a East Coast rust bucket or one that has been neglected. I am not saying she's a concourse car and is not a trailer queen. I would call it a driver, but don't mistake it. It has won the last two car shows I've entered it in. Do not pass this one up, there are not to many in this condition. It needs nothing and ready to be driven home. Up for auction from The Mustang Ranch in Golden, Colorado. This 1973 DeTomaso Pantera #THPNNJ05129 had a complete make over about 12 years and 5,000 miles ago. Starting with the motor rebuild by Daly Machine in Omaha Nebraska. 550 HP 388 Stroker 3 3/4 stroke 4.0 bore, Ross 9.75:1 pistons, Crower forged steel rods/ crank. Yates SVO cylinder heads ported/ flowed by Rod Sokolski (design engineer at Edelbrock) Ferrera stainless valves, Engle camshaft, roller rockers, double roller timing assembly, high volume oil pump, wind age tray, 10 quart Canton oil pan, Motorsport damper, aluminum flywheel, Mcleod performance clutch assembly, Edelbrock Victor series single plane intake manifold, MSD ignition/ rev limiter/ timing computer/ distributor/ coil, Stewart high flow Nascar water pump, Bob Blake pre paired 750 double pumper Holley carb, electric fuel pump, Motorsport single wire alternator, starter, Ansa GTS stainless headers/ exhaust and so much more. The transaxel was rebuilt by Woodhouse and has Pantera Performance hydraulic throw out bearing assembly and new drive axles. And the rear wheele housing carriers were upgraded to the tapered roller bearing assemblies. Additional items are 2 JAZ fuel cells, 17" Simmons wheels, 245/40/ZR17- 315/35/ZR17 Dunlop Sp Sport tires, JFZ 4 piston calipers, Coleman rotors, Pantera Performance Tilton Master cylinder/ brake booster, stainless braided brake and gas lines, Koni adjustable shocks, Pantera Performance sway bars/ bushings, Powder coated/ rebuilt upper and lower control arms, upper/ lower ball joints, rebuilt rack, rebuilt peddle assembly, Hall Pantera reinforce frame kit, European tail lights, hood vent kit, upgraded radiator/ fans/ tubes/ hoses/ clamps/ sensors, rebuilt door motors/ wiper/ headlight motors and so much more. There are just to many items to list but you get the idea, not much was left un touched! The interior had new carpet and re upholstered seats, stereo cassette, gauges, switches, Momo steering wheel, Simpson seat belts and more. All of the gauges work except for the tach. I was told that a wire at the MSD box was not hooked up. The head lights/ drivers- passengers windows go up and down as well as the wiper works. Turn signals, brake lights, horn, heater motor and electric fans all work. All of the ac equipment is under the dash but the new rotary pump was never installed. The motor starts right up no noises, smoke or leaks. The clutch and all forward/ reverse gears engage smoothly. I have had this Pantera up to speed and then some on the highway, the car runs out great! The Body is the original color redone in Blue, striped down to bare metal, epoxie primered and repainted/ wet sanded and polished. There is some small damage on the drivers rocker in the video as well as a couple of chips on the back of the car but for the most part the car is flawless! This car is clean with no rust or collision repair. Further inspection has shown there is no debris in the lower front/ rear control arm towers. I am selling this car for a client of mine and it is one of the most clean and sorted out Pantera's that has come through my shop. The car comes with the fiberglass in cert, new rear tires, ac pump, manuals, tool kit, new deck lid struts and some other miscellaneous stuff. You cannot build this car for what I am asking, not to mention the brain damage building one. I would suggest to have the car tuned and dynoed in your location for maximum performance.
