Awesome survivor low original mileage Honda 500R. Rebuilt top end including new piston and rings with rebuilt cylinder head! Fresh, not even broken in yet. I have built several of these bikes in my younger days and still ride a built to the hilt 82 xl so I am very familiar with these motors. I am only selling this one because I have no interest in collecting, only riding these old jewels and since I can't ride 'em both at the same time one has to go. New o ring chain, new factory original grips and new clutch and brake levers. Still wearing her original speedometer!! Plastics are orig. as well although the rear fender has a crack. Very fast bike ready to ride. The 81-82 xr's are becoming increasingly harder to find in any condition. They were the first pro-link suspension thumpers. This bike is just under 300 lbs. Honda completely redesigned the bike and motor for the 1983 model year. (never quite hitting the mark imho) Sold with a bill of sale only. Will work with buyer to ship anywhere, and no. It is not cheaper to send it in pieces, this aint no ct70. This from MCS... When the rider clicks the XR into gear, he feels the 500 accelerate smoothly right from idle. In light of Honda's fondness for high-rewing engines, it « not surprising that the XR quickly builds power into the high rpm range One does not ordinarily want to keep a btg four-stroke single spinning hard because of the vibration, but the XR is controllable and offers its best power up high. But this doesn't mean the Honda is lacking in tow-end power; check these figures out. The XR develops 11.82 horsepower and 24.82 pounds/feet of torque at 2500 rpm—barely above idle. At 3500 rpm it's producing 17 horsepower and 26 lbs/ft of torque, compared to 13 horsepower and 19 lbs/ft of torque developed by last years Yamaha TT500. While the XR makes its best power at 6500 rpm (33.44 horsepower), it doesn't penalize overrewing, continuing to produce nearly 27 horsepower up until 8500 rpm. This powerband is superb: it lets the rider power out of tight situations, chug up hills effortlessly and relax while he trail rides There is also a predictable but abundant surge of power m the mid-range, at which point it's incredibly easy to wheelie the machine in the first three gears. Thanks to its smooth powerband. riding the Honda is above all tun. Selling my nice, old 86 XL600R. It has been a great bike for me but I decided to upgrade to a newer XR650L. I rode it all last summer... on the roads and on the trails. It even handled some single track stuff nicely. As you can clearly see it has been repainted. This was done by the previous owner. From what I can tell, the tank, exhaust, motor, and possible the side covers have been painted or touched up. It never bothered me, but I will include an original tank and the used, original blue seat cover if you want to restore it to stock. I pulled it out of the shed tonight and it started on the first kick! That is after a 5 month hibernation here in MN. The carbs were drained and the tank filled with stabilized gas, so I guess the winterization effort paid off. And it ran strong during a short test ride. It popped a little as I would let off the throttle to shift. It did that a bit early last year too, but it went away once I was riding it more frequently. It doesn't smoke or leak. It is ready to go... all the electricals work and the battery (stored inside) is fully charged and relatively new. The tires are a fairly aggressive tread, but were surprisingly good on the pavement too. Lots of miles left in them. It has current MN tabs through Feb 2016 and the MN DNR trail sticker though Dec 2016. And it has a clear MN title in my name. Everyone needs a nice thumper in their stable of bikes! Ride it as is! Restore it to like new! Or turn it into a sweet cafe race or street tracker! And now for all the other stuff... Shipping is your responsibility. Buyer pays for all shipping costs. I will happily work with your shipper to make sure you get your bike as soon as possible. A PayPal deposit of $500 is required within 24 hours of the auction ending. The balance I would prefer be paid in cash upon pick up... but I am open to full payment via paypal within 3 days.

Up for sale is a 81 Honda XL500s duel sport enduro. It's sporting the camo theme. Starts first or second kick every time. It smokes a little from the exhaust on a cold start when the humidity is high from the condensation in the exhaust but goes away when the engine warms up. I found that if I put a bag over the exhaust about an hour after running it, the next time I start it up no smoke. Runs and idles great no problems. Has a MONSTER 500cc single cylinder engine!!!It was used on the streets from 81 until 87 then was mostly driven on the trails. It has a knobby tire in the back with plenty of tread and a regular enduro tire in the front with lots of tread as well. Replaced the stator cover, stator cover seal, and shifter shaft seal. Leaks no oil. I've replaced the foam filter, gave it a fresh coat of paint and I have it running on 91 octane. It was a rebuild from the junkyard in 87 and tagged as rebuilt so you can ride on licensed trail and also will make it easier to make street legal if that's the route you want to go. All of the switches are there. The title is still from the junkyard but the bike is clean. If you look up the vin# in Secretary of State it is clean and has never been in a flood or been stolen and it also shows that it is tagged as rebuilt there as well. I got it as a project because it was sitting in storage for 10 years. I rebuilt carb and did normal maintenance i.e. Spark plug, oil change, basic seals fuel filter etc. also installed a new key so now it won't start without one. Everything works including the headlight and is in good orderThis bike is very rare as it is the last year of the xl500s and the last year that the xl500 had duel shocks and it only has 4000 original miles. This thing is a beast, a monster and a legend. They will go anywhere and have PLENTY OF POWER. These thumpers last forever!!No clutch wheelies for days:) Asking 750 obo. No trades. Make me an offer.
