Unlike traditional body-on-frame construction, which forced passengers to climb up to enter their vehicles, Hudson designers placed the entire passenger compartment down inside the chassis, surrounded by a sturdy perimeter frame. This positioned the car at a lower center of gravity, enabling it to handle exceptionally well. Hudson recognized the marketing value of racing, and engineers including Vince Piggins developed a line of “severe usage parts” which transformed the robust Hornet into the definitive stock car of the early 1950s. A lineup of drivers including Dick Rathmann, Tim Flock, Jack McGrath, Frank Mundy and Lou Figaro accumulated 13 racing wins in 1951, 49 in 1952 and 46 in 1953 in “The Fabulous Hudson Hornet”. No other car of the time could match the Hudson’s bulletproof construction, good handling and factory support. One of only 500 produced in 1951, the two-door convertible has beautiful concave lines that lead to a round rear end that looks complete from behind. The well-known car is powered by none other than the respected Power Dome Hudson inline six-cylinder engine, backed by a Hydramatic transmission. This particular Hudson Hornet Convertible Brougham has been restored from the ground-up and has been described in terms such as “a piece of jewelry.” The exterior is finished in show-quality Cornish Cream with beautiful chrome and stainless steel trim. The interior is finished in maroon leather upholstery, with the correct waffle-pattern door inserts, and it is complemented by a tan stay-fast power convertible top. Several desirable options adorn this magnificent example, including radio, heater, power windows, driver- and passenger-side pillar-mounted spotlights, fender skirts, bias-ply wide whitewalls with factory full wheel covers. The expensive restoration this car received was certainly worthy for such an exceptional automobile. The 1951 Hudson Hornet is an unforgettable racing legend, and a must have for any serious collector of American automobiles. This particular Hudson Hornet convertible proudly presented today underwent an extensive restoration in 2009. The Toro red exterior matches nicely with the clean red interior. The Hornet was also built by American Motors Corporation (AMC) in Kenosha Wisconsin and marketed under the Hudson brand between 1955 and 1957. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this unique and rarely seen 1953 2 door Twin H Hudson Hornet, truly classic American collector’s find! First-generation Hudson Hornets featured a functional “step-down” design with dropped floor pan and chassis creating a lower center of gravity than contemporary vehicles that aided the car’s handling capabilities which was a bonus for racing. The Hornet’s lower and sleeker look was accentuated by streamlined styling, sometimes called “ponton” styling. The car’s unique, low slung appearance and silky handling earned Hudson an image that – for many buyers – eclipsed luxury marques like Cadillac. The 1953 model year brought minor changes to the Hudson Hornet. The front end was modified with a new grille and a non-functional air scoop hood ornament. Four different body designs were produced: a two-door club coupe, Hollywood hardtop, Convertible Brougham, and a four-door sedan. Hudson Hornet 1953 model year production totaled 27,208 units of which around 910 were the Hollywood hardtops. As a point of interest, an upgraded 8-tube radio was a option. Finished in classic and desirable black exterior over a very original blue/gray cloth interior,  the paint finish and body show extremely well with only minor imperfections visible upon close inspection. Inside, the seat upholstery looks great in a crushed velour cloth with no major signs of wear visible. The door panels are finished to match the seats and dashboard are matched to mirror the exterior of the car and all look fantastic. Paint and body are displayed well with  minimal paint issues and no visible evidence of repair or damage that we could find. This nicely represented Hudson is equipped with the optional “twin-H” or twin one barrel carburetor setup, a L-head (flathead or sidevalve) design. At 308 cu in (5.0 L) it was the largest displacement six-cylinder engine in the world at the time. With its unique carb configuration, the engine produces 145 hp which is linked to a Hydramatic automatic transmission, the car also features wide whitewall tires on OEM steel wheels with Hudson hub caps, original AM radio, and set of spare keys (rare!). Daily use or weekend get-a-ways, this iconic 50’s sled is ready when you are! With the low production numbers these Hornets are becoming increasingly hard to find in such solid well kept condition. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!! Current mileage on the odometer shows 6,896, it is sold as is and is mileage exempt on clean and clear Illinois title.
