gregscustomcycles Store This “Captain America” Motorcycle was a factory built bike made by CMC “California Motorcycle Company”. Only produced one year in 1999 and endorsed by Peter Fonda Himself these rare bikes are seldom ever seen and very few are ever for sale. This one is a documented two owner bike with only 79 actual miles on it! It spent its entire life in the original owners living room! Still new in every way with no deterioration on the bike, chrome parts, nuts and bolts, etc. It looks as new as the day it rolled of the showroom floor. The bike is documented with the Letter of Authenticity, Matching Helmet signed by Peter Fonda. The bike is ready to ride and drive if so desired. You will probably never see another one for sale with as low of miles as this one. This Captain America in #105 of 750 Produced. Although there was supposed to be a total of 750 made, the actual number is much less than that as “CMC” turned into Indian Motorcycles in 1999 and thus were focusing on building the all new Indians from them on. All motorcycles were built in Gilroy, California. Factory Specifications include: S&S 88 Cubic Inch Super Stock Motor “Panhead” Style Rocker Covers 5-Speed Transmission Belt Driven Rigid Frame Powdercoated Motor and Frame Extended Billet Forward Controls Billet Triple Trees 4 Piston Billet Calipers with CMC logo Peanut Tank Chrome Fenders Captain America Seat Braided Steel Brake Lines Fishtail Exhaust System Chrome Oil Bag Single Round Mirror Chrome Lifter Blocks 12” Ape Hangers 16” Wheels Rear 40 Spoke 21” Front 40 Spoke wheel 10” Over Rocket Legs. Only 3800 miles from new! 2000 Indian Chief VIN Number: 5CDCNB511YG003416 Following the demise of the original Indian company in 1953, there were sporadic attempts to revive what had been one of America's foremost motorcycle marques. The original company had been split in the early 1950s, resulting in a legal tangle that frustrated efforts to revive production and would not be resolved until 1999 with the formation of the Indian Motorcycle Corporation. The latter resumed production in Gilroy, California with, naturally, a v-twin, though in order to meet modern-day power and emissions requirements an overhead-valve engine was used instead of Indian's traditional 'flat-head' motor. The new Chief's air-cooled power unit came from S&S and displaced 87.99ci (1,442cc) to produce 75bhp at 5,200rpm. It had a five-speed transmission, belt final drive and disc brakes on both wheels. While the engineering was up-to-the-minute, the styling was unashamedly 'retro', the distinctive gas tank and 'Art Deco' fenders recalling the classic Indian models of the 1940s. Sadly, although the bikes were good, the company's financial foundations were less secure and production ceased in 2003. Currently displaying only 3,821 miles on the odometer, Chief is offered in excellent condition throughout. Fresh from a recent tune up to ready for sale, it starts and idles well and runs with good responsive power. The gears shift perfectly with an excellent clutch. Disc brakes are excellent as are the rest of the cycle parts including good tires. Cosmetically, the bike is also in excellent condition for its 17 years. Paint is good with nothing but swirls in the paint, easily buffed out. All chrome is in very good condition, testament to the quality over Harley’s build and finishes. The bike sports ape-hanger handlebars and the front mudguard was removed for a more aggressive look. The original parts do not come with the bike. Stored correctly, the bike has gone unused for a few years and so California buyers can expect three year’s worth of back-fees at registration. Bid accordingly. Far better looking than the original stoic Chief, this is a great alternative to the far more commonplace Harley.

2000 Indian Chief. The Chief Marketing Officer for Indian Motorcycles commissioned NASA logo designer Bill Helin in Vancouver to paint his original "Mystery Chief" painting over one of their brand new 2000 Chief's. The bike was shipped to Vancouver, completely disassembled and the Mystery Chief painting was custom painted on every part of the bike. After 4 months, the bike was shipped back to Gilroy, California (Indian HQ),where it then went on a national marketing and promotional tour of every Indian dealership in the US (it was never for sale and was never driven). One year later, after completing its promotional tour, the Mystery Chief Indian motorcycle landed in Los Angeles and was put up for sale at Indian's Santa Monica dealership. I bought the bike for $34,000 USD in 2001. I drove it for three years until my first child was born, after that it was put in storage where it has remained since 2004. The bike has 2900 miles on it and has not been driven since 2004. Serious inquiries only- NO test rides, for sale at $18,000.00. The bike was formally appraised in 2010 for $45,000. Trade inquiries are welcome. Don't miss out on this low mile collectible Indian Chief!! Indian (motorcycle) Factory Information and History Indian is an American brand of motorcycles originally manufactured from 1901 to 1953 by a company in Springfield MA, US, initially known as the Hendee Manufacturing Company but which was renamed the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company in 1928. The Indian factory team took the first three places in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. During the 1910s Indian became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. Indian's most popular models were the Scout, made from 1920 to 1946, and the Chief, made from 1922 to 1953. The Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company went bankrupt in 1953. A number of successor organizations have perpetuated the name in subsequent years, with limited success. In 2011 Polaris purchased Indian Motorcycles and relocated operations from North Carolina, merging them into existing facilities in Minnesota and Iowa. Since August 2013, three motorcycle models that capitalize on Indian's traditional styling have been built under the Indian name. Indian Motorcycle Company of America (1999-2003) The Indian Motorcycle Company of America was formed from the merger of nine companies, including manufacturer California Motorcycle Company (CMC) and IMCOA Licensing America Inc., which was awarded the Indian trademark by the Federal Court in 1998. The new company began manufacturing motorcycles in 1999 at the former CMC's facilities in Gilroy, CA.. The first "Gilroy Indian" model was a new design called the Chief. Scout and Spirit models were also manufactured from 2001. These bikes were initially made with off-the-shelf S&S engines, but used the 100-cubic-inch (1,600 cc) Powerplus engine design from 2002 to 2003. The Indian Motorcycle Corporation went into bankruptcy and ceased all production operations in Gilroy on September 19, 2003 Polaris Acquisition (since 2011) In April 2011, Polaris Industries, the off-road and leisure vehicle maker and parent-company of Victory Motorcycles, announced its intention to acquire Indian Motorcycle. Indian's production facilities were moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where production began on August 5, 2011. In March 2013, Indian unveiled their new 111 cubic inches (1.82 L) "Thunder Stroke" engine, and began to sell their newly designed motorcycles based on it in August 2013. Current production On August 3, 2013, Polaris announced three all-new Indian-branded motorcycles based on the traditional styling of the marque and the Thunder Stroke 111 motor. The motor has a triple-cam design with a chain-driven center cam turning front and rear cams via gears, permitting parallel placement of the pushrods to give a similar appearance to older Indian designs. It is air cooled, with large traditional fins and an airbox in the cast aluminum frame. All Indians share this aluminum frame design, though the wheelbase and front end rake vary depending on model. The integrated transmission is also gear-driven. WE DO REQUIRE A $500 DEPOSIT VIA CREDIT CARD OR CASH IN PERSON WITHIN 24 HOURS AUCTION OR LISTING CLOSE. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL.
