It has sometimes been described as the world’s first superbike. The Z1, along with Honda’s CB750 from 1969, introduced the four-cylinder, across the frame, disc-braked layout to a wider public. The Z1 was groundbreaking in that it combined many different elements which previous motorcycles had used into one performance package. The Z1 Kawasaki was developed in strict secrecy under the project name “New York Steak”. Some years previously, Kawasaki, already an established manufacturer of two-stroke motorcycles, decided to make a 750cc 4-cylinder 4-stroke sports motorcycle; they were beaten to the market place by the Honda CB750. Apparently, the bosses at Kawasaki disapproved and ordered their designers to come up with something better. The bike you see here is a ’73 Z1 900 that is in beautiful condition. I am the second owner of this motorcycle and have owned it for 30 years. It was refreshed 20 years ago and then made an appearance in Cycle World magazine in August of 1998. It was awarded 3rd place in the Classic Japanese Concours. (Bested only by a sand-cast KO, and a CB400f which was riding a wave of popularity at the time.) However, this is not a show bike and never was. It is the motorcycle I wanted in college but couldn't afford. 15 years after its debut, I bought this one at a yard sale and have treated it like a motorcycle - not a prop in a man-cave. Like all my motorcycles, it has been ridden fast and far. And, like all my motorcycles, it receives excellent care and maintenance. As pictured here, it is currently wearing a set of Lester cast wheels with Metzler Lazers for performance. The original factory wheels are included and are wearing IRCs with an OEM tread pattern. Also included, is a more recently acquired set of correct OEM Dunlop tires: K87 Gold Seal rear tire (new) and the extremely rare F6 front (very light wear). All the original parts that have been replaced, have been kept and are included in the sale. Due to photo limitations, not all has been shown. Included are 3 seats, full Vetter and Shoei touring package, Tracy 1/4 fairing with smoke windshield and a Japanese market 4-into-1 exhaust that has never been mounted. The bike is wearing replacement body work, purchased from Kawasaki in the late 1980's. The original body work (small badge tank) is included and is in factory finish, fair condition. Also, a Lockhart oil cooler with all fittings, case guards, luggage rack, chain, additional rear wheel with brake and axle assembly. The original switch-gear and wiring harness have been replaced with an aftermarket product for reliability. The original switches are in good cosmetic condition, but the wiring has become brittle and prone to cracks and shorts. Good for display, not so good for use. The only other mods are unseen: needle bearings in the swing arm and tapered rollers in the steering head. I am not interested in splitting this package, it all goes as one. Factory shop manual and owner's manual are included. Clear Missouri title plus the original title issued in Iowa in 1973. Over several years I have had the pleasure to own, restore and be a avid collector of all things 1973 Kawasaki Z1. To date I have had at least 10 (ten) 1973 models that have passed through my garage doors and 4 remain. Two original bikes and two in the early state of restoration, both of which were decent running largely original bikes prior to dismantling. In addition, I have compiled a large assortment of NOS, and quality used parts for the 1973 model. A large number of these parts from the dismantled bikes as well as extras have been re-chromed, re-zinc plated, and or powder-coated in preparation of my use in the restoration process. There are of course some (very little) new and aftermarket parts as well but on whole I would say 99% are OEM Kawasaki. 1975 Kawasaki Z1B 900 with 18850 original miles! This is an opportunity to own an absolutely stunning example of this 40 year old super bike. I have owned more than a dozen of these 900s over the years including a twin to this one that I purchased new in 1975. This 900 is without question one of the most beautiful Z1 motorcycles that you will find anywhere. If you are looking for a cheaper example that you will need to make excuses for, they are out there. However, if you are looking for a 900 that will turn heads at any vintage Japanese motorcycle event, this is the one! I had the carburetors rebuilt and synchronized by my local Kawasaki dealer who has been selling Kawasaki motorcycles since 1968. The oil and filter was also changed. The bike has only been riden 20 miles since then. This bike has the original "303" wheels. Any parts that were replaced were done so with OEM/NOS Kawasaki parts. The exhaust are Doremi brand which is the same company that made the original exhaust for the Kawasaki 900s in the 1970s. I have a clear Pennsylvania title for this bike in my name. The bike also comes with the original owner's manual and Kawasaki tool kit. Everything on this bike works as it should. It is a very strong running bike and is very fast! This is not a "must sell" situation. I collect Kawasaki 900s and occasionally "thin the heard". Low-ball offers will not be considered. This 900 is in storage in a car capsule and will remain there until I pass it on to the next collector. The last photo shows the bike in its storage capsule. Hello, my name is Todd White. I’m a local bike builder out of Sun City, Ca. I just recently finished a build of a 1981 Kawasaki Z440-A LTD. This bike, I got from a buddy and was rotting on the side of his house. Was looking for a project so I asked if I could take it off his hands and he happily agreed. I decided the look I was going for was a bobber with a Villipoto inspired theme (that’s the reason I have the number 2 plate on the bottom of fake oil tank). So I will start with the front of the bike. The springer front end I made at work, took existing stem from old lower tree and press fit into new lower tree and finished up front end around the ride height. Made old style trunnions for the rockers out of 1” cold rolled steel. Front caliper is off YZF 450 and machined access to run cable reverse direction. Bought cables from J&J aircraft supply. Turned down the rotor .050 thou to allow for more clearance. Wheels are stock; just powder coated and repacked bearings. Machined cover opposite side disc brake. All spacers I machined out of brass on entire bike. Handle bars, foot pegs, throttle and seat pan mount are from Biltwell. Clutch lever is MSR. Front light is a Bates; I just powder coated trim to match the cases. Used stock tank, pie cut and stretched 3 inches. Used traditional Kawi green with off white on tank and rear fender. The entire motor I went thru, replaced only a center shifter fork in tranny and sand blasted existing pistons with 8 gauge glass and used a fresh ring set. Honed cylinder’s and did some mild porting. Painted it black and powder coated the cases a rootbeerish looking color. Used front half of stock frame and married into my own hard tail design to give it a factory look, all frame tubing is DOM .120 wall cold rolled. The plate behind the motor I designed to support lower frame tubes, down tube and give motor more mounting options. Carbs were sand blasted with glass and completely rebuilt using Sigma Jets out of Arizona. The air filter was my own design (I work at K&N) I made two filters, one with cotton media and the other with a dry flow media. Both filters come with the sale of the bike and are the ONLY style of its kind. Also made carbon fiber tops to give it a different look. Made battery tray to house a 12 volt Ballistic battery and a cover with custom engraving with company’s logo. Made fake oil tank to house all wiring and most of the wiring was routed thru tubing. Made seat pan with 1” foam core and had Enjoy hook me up with a seat cover, same one they put on Villipoto’s bike! Under the seat I made brass housings for urethane bump stops to add for a more comfortable ride. The seat also flips up to allow access to wiring. The rear fender is compliments of RWD Designs out of Murrieta, Ca. and was bolted in 4 spots on the frame. Brake light is from Zero engineering and the license plate set up I did. Chain is from D.I.D. 122 links (long sucker, and expensive). Chain rollers I made out of 90 shore hard urethane and lower roller has McMaster Carr bearings. Stock drums in the rear with brake stop that I machined with a two stage powder coat and a Team Green logo. I used existing parts for the rear brake switches and the rear brake pedal is stock just had vacuum metalized (cheaper than chroming). This bike took me about 1-1/2 years to build and I literally have gone thru every square inch of this bike. I named it “The Lunch Box Special” because I built it every day at work on my ten minute breaks and my lunches. The bike received Editor’s Choice Award at the IMS Long Beach Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show and took second in its class at the Grand National Roadster Show. It’s a ton of fun to ride but have to sell it and provide for the family. I think I covered almost everything but probably forgot something. 1981 Kawasaki 750 LTD motorcycle- 516 miles Up for sale is a 1981 Kawasaki 750 LTD motorcycle. I purchased this bike from a local estate without a title and I am in the process of obtaining a Virginia title for the bike; I should have the tile by the end of January 2017. I am selling the bike now with the understanding that if you are the winning bidder you must pay a $200 non-refundable deposit; if I fail to obtain a title, your deposit will be refunded.The Kawasaki motorcycle was purchased new by the original owner in 1981; the Chesapeake city sticker and 1982 Virginia license plate are still on the bike. The odometer shows 516 original miles; my guess it was driven for one year and then stored away in a building for 35 years until 2016 when I acquired it. The original key is included and it will open all locks on the bike and will also work the ignition switch. The chrome has a lot of pitting and rust as you can see from the pictures. The gas tank full of crud from old gas and some of it ran down the gas tank. The gas tank lock was frozen with crud, which I was able to clean & lubricate; now it works fine {see pictures|. The fuel valve and gas filter were also full of crud; I cleaned these up. I flushed the gas tank with alcohol as best I could. The fuel valve was in the off position so I don’t believe the old gas was in the carbs; however you should plan on having to clean the entire fuel system. I connected a battery and the lights work. I was able to shift the transmission into neutral as was indicated on the status light {see picture} and was able to start the engine with ether. I opened up the brake fluid reservoir and the brake fluid had dried up into a pasty power; so the entire brake system will have to be cleaned out.The seat on the bike is like new with a couple of tiny spots of damage, please look at the pictures as they are part of the description.
