The state-of-the-art engine is activated effortlessly with an electric starter and has been regarded for years as the most successful two-stroke power unit on the market. Best-in-class, enduro-specific performance, a redesigned reed valve housing, the perfectly designed six-speed transmission and the further refined DDS clutch send the engine to the very top of its class. Features May Include: Handlebar All XC models are fitted with a new black anodized Neken tapered handlebar, with a bend that is specifically suited to the requirements of offroad while boasting superior quality and performance. The proven standard KTM mount allows the handlebar to be mounted in four different positions. A large Neken bar pad offers effective protection for the rider. Hand Protection And Grips Standard for all XC models, the hand guards use a new material for better impact resistance. The O-ring support for the lower bearing on the steering stem has been revised and is now made of aluminum to save 22 grams, while the steering stem bolt is now 8 grams lighter. Brakes High-Tech Brembo brakes have always been standard equipment on KTM off-road bikes, and combined with the lightweight Galfer Wave discs, they are the ultimate solution in braking technology. The Duke was KTM's first street bike, and first supermoto, having previously made only off-road and racing motorcycles. In 1998 KTM introduced the 640 Supermoto, so the Duke line became a more street oriented standard or streetfighter, while retaining some off-road characteristics like a relatively long suspension travel. Initially the Duke was KTM's entry level street bike, but later KTM partnered with Bajaj Auto to produce the 125 Duke, 200 Duke, and 390 Duke in India, placing the 600 cc class Dukes in the middle of their range.
