2015 KTM 500 EXC, 2015 KTM 500 EXC THE DUAL SPORT STANDARD The 500 EXC is one of the most powerful dual sport machines and is widely considered the standard of the class. Combining low weight and high displacement, high-tech SOHC 4-stroke technology is the right choice for all who are looking for maximum performance, combined with the ability to ride both the street and the dirt. Features May Include: Engine Developed for dual sport, the SOHC engine with 510.4cc is distinguished by an extremely compact design, easy maintenance and an excellent durability at a minimal weight. Together with the Keihin EFI system, they provide unrivaled enduro specific performance and rideability. Starter The 500 EXC is equipped with a kickstarter as well as an electric starter as standard. The electric starter is well protected behind the cylinder. Cylinder Head The cylinder head is equipped with a single overhead camshaft. It activates two titanium intake valves and two steel exhaust valves. The weight optimized valve train leads to low friction for improved performance as well as low engine braking action. Piston The lightweight, forged bridged box-type piston shares its high performance piston rings with the 450 SX-F. Crankshaft The crankshaft with a stroke of 72.0 mm and ultra-lightweight con rods are made by Pankl from special, high-tensile strength steel. They have a plain bearing in the big end. The previous needle bearing is replaced with two force-fitted EXC shells that run directly on the crank pin. This design enhances the engine's durability, allowing to lengthen the crankshaft service interval. Frame The EXC s chassis is second to none and for 2015 the bikes will feature the striking Factory orange usually seen only on KTM s race team machines. The modern and lightweight frame design with exceptional quality and performance created with by WP Performance Systems is made of lightweight, high strength chromoly steel sections. Not only does it provide easy handling and precise cornering, but also outstanding stability. Airbox The redesigned airbox offers maximum protection of the air filter against soiling while ensuring maximum airflow for top performance. The new airbox covers are produced in a 2-component process and with new inmould graphics. The left cover's mount and fitment have been improved further to allow an even quicker change of the Twin Air filter which is held more securely with an optimized latch. The filter can still be changed without using tools. In addition, two extra flaps on the cover allow to secure it with bolts if desired.
