1976 Moto Morini 3 1/2 Sport in pristine condition with only 3876 miles. I bought this rare Italian motorcycle in 1992 and it has been in my personal collection ever since. This Moto Morini was purchased new from Hermy's cycle shop in Port Clinton Pa. Hermy's was the US distributor for Moto Morini until the mid 1980's. This bike is a sport model but the handle bars were changed when new from the clip on style to the higher Strada bars that are on it now. The original owner did not like the riding position with the clip on bars and so Hermy's changed them for him. This bike has just been completely serviced including new cam belt, valve adjustment, carbs rebuilt, new fork seals, oil change, new battery, front master cylinder and brake caliper rebuilt, and a new set of tires to replace the original Perelli's that were cracked. This bike now starts and runs perfectly. Everything works including all the indicator lights, turn signals, headlight, gauges, and brakes. The paint on this bike is exceptional with no dents, scratches, chips or dings. The stainless fenders are beautiful and dent free. The exhaust system is the original and in near perfect condition with no pitting and the correct La Franconi silencers. This is a late 1976 model that still retains the original Borrani spoke rims but also has the front disc brake. The 1977 model had mag style rims with a standard disc brake but a few of the late 1976 models had the spoke rims and a factory front disc brake like this one. I have the original owners manual, toolkit and a clear title. This bike is very hard to find and nice examples like this one do not come up for sale very often. I am relocating soon and that is the only reason that I am offering it for sale. For those of you that are not familiar with this bike here is some history: Beginnings of the Moto Morini 3 1/2 Sport By the end of the 1960s, Moto Morini had established itself as a quality motorcycle manufacturer, with good racing successes with their single-cylinder GP machines. Then in 1969, Alfonso Morini, the company’s founder, passed away. The company continued on under the lead of Gabriella Morini, Alfonso’s only daughter, and soon became known for their V-twins. Franco Lambertini, an engineer from Modena who came to Morini from Ferrari, was the designer of Moto Morini’s masterpiece V-twin. His first 350cc engine, a longitudinal 72-degree V-twin, featured a toothed belt driving the camshafts and a multi-disk dry clutch. The engine made its way into a new prototype motorcycle, which debuted at the Milan show in 1971. The 3 1/2 Sport was born. The Moto Morini 3 1/2 V-twin engine was unique in its use of “Heron” combustion cylinder heads, a first in the motorcycle industry. The Heron design principle uses cylinder heads with a flat face and parallel (as opposed to inclined) valves, with the combustion recess formed in the piston crown. The overhead-valve 3 1/2 used a toothed belt to the camshaft, a multi-plate dry clutch and electronic ignition. The Moto Morini GT (or Strada) first went on sale in Italy in 1973, and received rave reviews for its performance, power output and low fuel consumption. In 1974, Morini launched the Sport version, which featured a shorter saddle, lower handlebars, an increase in maximum power from 36hp to 39hp @ 8,500rpm and a claimed maximum speed of 100mph. The Sport featured a 230mm (9in) single-leading-shoe front drum brake for 1974-1976, but from 1977 on the front wheel was slowed with a 260mm (10.2in) single Grimeca disc.
