1981 Maico Mega 2 490. This bike is still consitered one of the fasted open class motorcycles ever built. Extremely rare, not many of these on the market for sale. This bike was originally hard to start, the kick is on the left side, its a 2 stroke with a compression release. This bike is still hard to start, but kicks over pretty easily once warmed up. All parts are original, and in working condition. Original owner, never raced, with low hours. Will not ship. Local pick up only in the Santa Clarita / Los Angeles area. Price i $7500 OBO.

1982 Maico "Alpha 1" This bike has the 5 speed MX gearbox (RT 354xxxx) with frame 354xxxx.I have not seen this bike running - the kick starter shaft is stripped. It does go into gear and can be rolled showing compression.Previous owner told me he push started the bike. For the most part , an original bike. What I would call a decent "core". No Title - Sold on a Bill of Sale.If you have less than 20 feedbacks - you must contact me before bidding - no exceptions. Please have all transportation arrangements made before bidding. 1982 MAICO 490 ,first year single shock motocross bike. I bought this and restored it about 10 years ago with the intention of racing the single shock class. Frame was powder coated, the aluminum Thor swing arm is from the era, the shock is a Fox Shock for the 1982 Maico. It was rebuilt by Mike at SRD Suspension and a spring was made for my weight ( 170 pounds). I added a Wheelsmith brake stay arm with trick adjustment. The plastic was replaced at that time, tank graphics were applied, the side panel graphics were added last week. The forks were bead blasted, new seals and oil. Billet Rage Racing ignition cover, case saver from Maico Only, footpegs are big ones from IMS Racing. At that time I put on a new seat cover, new filter from Vintage Iron is in correct airbox. Cables are the trick steel braided ones from Terry Cable. Aluminum bars with new Magura throttle and new grips. Stock pipe with DG silencer. The carburetor is a 38mm Mikuni. Bike starts and runs through the gears as it should, I have not had the need to open the engine up, it has all the power you'd expect from a 490. The flaws are as follows, ding on front Hallman rim that doesn't seem to effect the rideability. The front cable has some sunburn on plastic coating, appearance only. Engine seeps oil from the right side case, I'll try to replace the clutch cover gasket this week time permitting. The tires will need to be replaced before first race. Please feel free to ask any questions about this motorcycle or payment and shipping. Shipping is buyers responsibility but I will assist in any way I can. $500 immediate deposit by Paypal, balance by cashiers check or cash. Cashiers check must clear before bike leaves my garage. If you are an overseas buyer and have questions please ask, again I will try to assist. No warranty or guarantees , as is. There is no title on bikes of this era in Arizona, please be aware if this is a problem for you.

Bike truly runs amazing you won't be disappointed it's got a new kickstarter , air filter , primary chains before it went away in the 80's , new rear brake pads, new chain , new plug, new carb boot , new front number plate (comes with it) new ufo front and rear fenders( already put on ) new tank decals and a few other goofy small stuff, this bike is barn fresh and runs perfect , comes with original open title and I'm only the 3rd owner, it's all stock inside the engine except for the primary chain drive. Just the way you want to find it not all hacked up. The rear suspension had the overhaul done by wheelsmith in the 80s and is ready to go no problem like the normal 82 had. This bike is a 5 speed and is an animal. Great for vintage mx or restoration. It does have a few flaws as the side covers are sun baked, the seat has a few small splits no material missing, someone repaired the seat base with pop rivets and fiberglass resin. But you can ride it I just never got around to it. Fast! I love this bike I'm only 16 and I enjoy old motorcycles and fixing them up. But I can't keep everything and this is the bike that takes up the most room. My loss is your gain guys. Good luck!

I am selling one of my Maico 490's. This is a nice solid bike which consists of an 81 frame and an 82 motor (81 and 82 motors are identical). I have had this bike in the collection for quite a while. Gassed her up and she fired with 2-3 kicks. The bike runs and shifts as it should. I have listed as much info as I can remember below. If you are a Maico fan you already know its tough to find these in decent shape. This is pretty much a gas and go bike as it sits. If you plan on racing it I would have the shocks charged with nitrogen. Them seem low but that is because this bike has been sitting in a collection for years and started a few times a year then fuel drained. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I would be happy to answer them. Motor - was gone through prior to me purchasing it. All bearings and seals were replaced and a top end was done. Still has stock ignition. She usually fires in a few kicks if you properly fill the Bing carb bowl prior to kicking her over. Motor runs strong and shifts as it should. This motor has quite a bit of compression so it will take a strong leg to kick her over even with a compression release. Wheels - rear rim is the stock Akront and the front rim has been replaced at some point with a Sun rim. Tires are 95% new. Wheels seem to be straight with no problems. Front spokes will probably polish up pretty nice , back spokes are not as nice. Frame: frame is straight and I don't see any repairs on it. Freshly painted prior to me purchasing it. Suspension: Forks seem to be pretty good and I dont see any leaks. The bike came with Works shocks which I replaced with a set of Ohlins piggy backs I had. As you might know these are 1,200 dollar shocks. The springs have some chain wear which is unavoidable with maico's. Shafts look excellent, no leaks but may need a charge prior to racing. Exhaust - the pipe is stock and looks like it has had a few welsd in its lifetime which are common with thee bikes. Silencer is aluminum. Body work: this bike has all new plastics including very hard to find Maico only racing tank which is the best match to MOR plastic in my opinion. Carb: carb is the stock Bing and works fine. I did notice the float bowl gasket was leaking a bit but I have a new one for it. Seat - new seat foam and cover Controls - cables are in working order and there are newer Magura perches and levers on this bike. All New Decals SHIPPING: costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. I dont mind holding the bike for a while once it is paid for. I realize it takes time to make shipping arrangements and I want to make this a stress free experience for the buyer. I do have a pretty good list of shippers I would be happy to pass on to you. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS - I have several Over sea's Shipping services that I can refer you to that will crate and ship to countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK as well as other country's in Europe if you require those services. PAYMENT: A nonrefundable deposit of 200.00 is due within 48 hrs of the auction ending. Balance payment is due within 7 days of the auction ending. I will accept the balance of payment in the following ways-Bank transfer, cash in person, Bank of America cashiers check or USPS money orders.

1982 MAICO 490, first year single shock motocross bike, a collectors item. I bought this bike to race Vintage Motocross, restored it, and then blew out my knee. This bike is ready to race or collect! Frame powder coated, aluminum Thor swingarm is from the era, the shock is a Fox Shock for the 1982 Maico, it was rebuilt by SRD Suspension and sprung for my weight (170 pounds). Shock linkage lubed and correctly installed. It has a Wheelsmith brake stay arm. Plastic has been replaced, and new graphics have been applied. The forks have been bead blasted and rebuilt with new seals and oil. Billet Rage Racing ignition cover, case saver from Maico Only, big footpegs from IMS. New seat cover and new air cleaner in correct airbox.
