Today i have for sale a 1988 Merkur xr4ti manual 5 speed. 2.3 turbo singe overhead camit has 125k miles and runs very strong with a recent tune up being completed. Turbo spools up nice and motor has no leaks nor does it burn oil. Has new distributor, water pump, and belts. Transmission shifts smooth with no grinds. Interior is near perfect condition with no cracks on the dash or leather seats which is super rare on these vehicles. Has thunderbird disc brake conversion and new exhaust. This car was resprayed the factory white color by the previous owner and looks great in my opinion. All the electronics work and is an absolute dream to drive. This was our primary car up to 4 years ago when the steering rack and steering column coupling failed and needed replacing. Instead of fixing it, we parked it and bought a new car - with the intention of replacing the steering rack and coupling someday. But other projects gained priority and we never got to it. Sometime during the past 4 years, mice took up residence for a short time and have caused some damage. Today, for the first time in 4 years, after checking the fluids and charging the battery she started right up and ran strong and smooth. (Since the steering needs replaced, we were unable to test drive her.) For those of you who know about the Merkur Scorpio and her sporty little brother XR4TI, Merkurs were fairly expensive high end cars for their time. They were made by Ford in Germany. Scorpios are somewhat rare and were only made for two years, 1988 and 1989. We bought our Scorpio in 1997, 17 years ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed her. But since we've had her sitting for 4 years, and now with no expectation to bring her back to what she was, we realize it's time to let her go. Given that these cars are somewhat scarce and the fact there are several who really enjoy maintaining this breed (see: The Merkur Club of America), we find it difficult and kind of a shame to send her to the local salvage yard for crushing when it is reasonable for someone to use her as a project car or as a donor car for those somewhat scarce parts. As a project car, at a minimum, she can be brought back to life by fixing (or replacing) the steering rack and steering column coupling. A good upholstery cleaning will be also be necessary. As a donor car, she is full of parts that still have much life in them. We are located in Estes Park, Colorado. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. With kind regards... Nov 24, additional information: I was concerned about the mouse odor so I did a little research on the internet. Looks like it is a common problem that has several solutions. There are commercial enzyme type and common baking soda/vinegar/alcohol solutions that writers claim are reasonably easy and quite successful. I've not tried any so I can't provide first hand experience. But if it is successful this would be important in considering this car. - hope that's helpful.

I purchased this vehicle in May of 2012 with 89k miles. It came from a estate sell and needed some TLC. Being a retired master mechanic in European cars and knowing the history of the marque it seemed a perfect fit. The first thing I did was find a parts car. Various little things need attention first, gauges, lights and switches not working. Major 90,000 mile service was done. The cooling system seem to need attention when doing the service so new water pump, thermostat and any hoses that needed replacing. New cam belt and tensioner. Fuel filter felt a little heavy when changed but no history of when it was last replaced. Fuel pump seemed quieter now. Installed a short shifter and Borla muffler to give it a sportier feel. Did a major detail on the interior, seems the deceased smoked their medicine in the car and there are three small holes in the fabric. No odors now. Well the fuel pump became noisy again, filter restricted. Dropped the tank and had it cleaned and sealed. Replace the tank fuel pump and rebuilt the fuel gauge sending unit. Replace the main fuel pump and new filter. Now with good flow and pressure I'm a happy guy. Pushed it too hard and blew the headgasket. Off with it's head! New valves, roller cam ground "turbo performance" by Colt, roller rockers, performance head gasket set and milled .010 off the head. Much better. Installed Porterfield pads and shoes with new wheel cylinders. New Bilstein shocks on all four corners. New tie rod ends with the hard sway bar to lower arm bushings from Rapido Group (thanks to Russ for all his help). This summer the A/C started making noise. Re-built compressor, new drier, new hoses with heat wrap and converter to R134a. So you can see I don't patch. Everything works except for the cruise control that I never use. Got 55/100w headlights. Original radio now works, no cassettes to test player. Glass is excellent, windshield has small star in the lower middle and two wiper makes on passenger side. I figure since all this car needs is a fresh coat of paint the windshield will be removed for that. Now you may feel I lost my love for Merkurs, but that parts car I mentioned is the next project. I already sold the transmission and the motor is up for sell now. Something bigger and better going in. These cars are great to drive and that is why those of us lucky to have them, love them. This has always been a West Coast car, no rust but does have some sun damage. Upper surface of driver's door panel is the worst.

I've had something like 10 Merkurs over the years. It's time to part ways with one of my last two and second longest owned. I've been really torn on selling it for a long time now but it's time to move on and I will still have my first XR (and first car period). I'm looking to sell my 89 Black XR. We purchased this car from Chris Boyd around 1996. It was babied and in perfect condition. Still in great shape today. It has about 115k miles on it. This makes a mess of wires tucked away and I would Change it somehow. Sounds awesome and CD Changer works but i blew a fuse or something wont power on now so I am not sure. Someone spent a lot of time and money making this car an exact replica and it shows. This car is completely custom and you have to look twice to know that it's not the real thing. It has the 2.8L V6 that came in the Fiero GT but it has had some work done to it and has a considerable amount of extra power. This car is a blast to drive with the 5-Speed Manual Transmission, wide body kit, and the upgraded suspension package. It's as close as you can get besides buying the real thing. This car is a 1 Owner Car that only has 71K Original Miles and has been very well cared for over the years. I talked to the previous owner and he barely drove the car around for years and then started putting the conversion kit on and spent of $45K Plus Countless Hours in making this car what it is today. Under the hood and undercarriage is clean and dry as can be. The paint is a very nice and expensive paint that has a very nice shine to it and almost looks wet in the right kind of light If you inspect it really close along a few edges and in Misc places there are tiny chips or cracks in the paint No biggie just its old paint and Someday will need redone but as you can See it looks GREAT! This car does have a convertible top that is easy to take up and down it has a few small tears in in and also one on the rear window . It has a hard shell to cover the convertible top when it is down as well. It has the flip up headlights and everything. I love the Ferrari wheels that are on this car. It really gives this car the look it needs. The tires are a nice set of Goodyear that I would say have at least 80% tread left. These are great tires that have a lot of miles left on them. There is also a lot of switches and a lot of them I'm not sure exactly what they do and havent tested them all. It has a nice aftermarket CD Player and a Disc Changer controller mounted in the drivers door. The way the stereos were mounted they had the backs removed to make it possible to mount in the door. This makes a mess of wires tucked away and I would Change it somehow. Sounds awesome and CD Changer works but i blew a fuse or something wont power on now so I am not sure. There are speakers mounted everywhere and the music sounds great even 10" Subs behind the seats and Amps. This car is completely custom inside and out and you won't find another car like it. Someone spent a lot of time and money making this car an exact replica and it shows. This car is completely custom and you have to look twice to know that it's not the real thing. It has the 2.8L V6 that came in the Fiero GT but it has had some work done to it and has a considerable amount of extra power. This car is a blast to drive with the 5-Speed Manual Transmission, wide body kit, and the upgraded suspension package. It's as close as you can get besides buying the real thing. This car is a 1 Owner Car that only has 71K Original Miles and has been very well cared for over the years. I talked to the previous owner and he barely drove the car around for years and then started putting the conversion kit on and spent of $45K Plus Countless Hours in making this car what it is today. Under the hood and undercarriage is clean and dry as can be. Make sure you watch the video I do a complete walk around of the car inside and out and even take it for a test drive.This is a 1 Owner Car that ONLY has 71K Original Miles The exterior of this car is beautiful. The paint is a very nice and expensive paint that has a very nice shine to it and almost looks wet in the right kind of light. This car does have a convertible top that is easy to take up and down. It has a hard shell to cover the convertible top when it is down as well. It has the flip up headlights and everything. I love the Ferrari wheels that are on this car. It really gives this car the look it needs. The tires are a nice set of Goodyear that I would say have at least 80% tread left. These are great tires that have a lot of miles left on them. There is also a lot of switches and a lot of them I'm not sure exactly what they do and havent tested them all. It has a nice aftermarket CD Player and a Disc Changer controller mounted in the drivers door. The way the stereos were mounted they had the backs removed to make it possible to mount in the door. This makes a mess of wires tacked away but I would Change it somehow. Sounds awesome ad CD Changer works but i blew a fuse or something wont power on now. There are speakers mounted everywhere and the music sounds great. This car is completely custom inside and out and you won't find another car like it. This car is sweet and a 1 of a kind. Someone spent a lot of time and money making this car an exact replica and it shows. This car is completely custom and you have to look twice to know that it's not the real thing. It has the 2.8L V6 that came in the Fiero GT but it has had some work done to it and has a considerable amount of extra power. This car is a blast to drive with the 5-Speed Manual Transmission, wide body kit, and the upgraded suspension package. It's as close as you can get besides buying the real thing. This car is a 1 Owner Car that only has 71K Original Miles and has been very well cared for over the years. I talked to the previous owner and he barely drove the car around for years and then started putting the conversion kit on and spent of $45K Plus Countless Hours in making this car what it is today. It has a hard shell to cover the convertible top when it is down as well. It has the flip up headlights and everything. I love the Ferrari wheels that are on this car. It really gives this car the look it needs. The tires are a nice set of Goodyear that I would say have at least 80% tread left. These are great tires that have a lot of miles left on them. It has a nice aftermarket CD Player and a Disc Changer controller mounted in the drivers door. The way the stereos were mounted they had the backs removed to make it possible to mount in the door. This makes a mess of wires tacked away but I would Change it somehow. Sounds awesome ad CD Changer works but i blew a fuse or something wont power on now. There are speakers mounted everywhere and the music sounds great. This car is completely custom inside and out and you won't find another car like it. This car is sweet and a 1 of a kind.
