For all its kitsch appearance, the Voyager is a convincing rival visually.Where many bikes fail in taking on Harley, however, is in matching other qualities of the troubled Milwaukee marque. To be convincing, the Voyager must be an effective tourer and have a good stab at matching the less easily defined qualities that have persuaded more than 50 per cent of big-bike buyers in the States to buy Harley-Davidsons.Some of the detailing will be given nods of approval, such as the white-on-black, simple serif script on the clocks, the chunky chrome ignition switch and of course the overall look of the big V-twin engine, which looks air-cooled even though there's liquid and a tucked-away radiator.But when it comes to feel, the Voyager isn't quite there. The top box, for example, is made of flimsy plastic with cheap catches that were already rusting on my test bike, while the lock wouldn't defeat a nine-year-old. The panniers are of similar quality and out of place on a near-£14,000 motorcycleThe gearchange is too far in the other direction, with a very heavy feel. The clutch's biting point is vague, making tight manoeuvres harder work than they need be, while the engine lacks the rawness of a Harley. That's a difficult criticism to make (many riders would find the smoother Kawasaki preferable) but for me the essence of Harley is the balance between crudeness and sophistication.Like a Harley, the Voyager's top gear is overdrive-tall, poviding a relaxed feel at motorway speeds. But the height of the unadjustable screen cuts right across the field of vision for taller riders such as myself. Even if you are able to look through it, there's no way of clearing rain drops from it – with a layer of winter road sludge, forward visibility is going to be a real issue.If you can see over the top, there's a relentless vibrating turbulence at anything over 80mph, and since the riding position could well induce backache, longer distances can become more tiring than they should. The seat pushed me too far forward, while the forward footboards didn't allow me to take any weight through my legs.There's plenty of Harley-type equipment, including a radio with ambient sound compensation which is surprisingly clear even at high speeds, although it lacks RDS station recognition which is almost universal these days. There are no rear speakers though, the sound is a lot less clear for the pillion. The passenger's legs rub on the bike's paintwork, too, although it's a comfortable place to be. I'm not keen on the radio buttons elbowing the horn push out of its usual place, while the equally busy right switch cluster includes cruise control, which is useful if sometimes jerky when it engages.As with a Harley, there's a lot of heat coming off the engine. This will be welcome in winter but too much, I suspect, on hot summer days.The bike handles well; neutral right down to walking pace and very stable at high speeds – not like a Harley, for once, and all the better for that. However the underdamped suspension can bounce you around on rougher roads, while the 4.4-gallon tank means that you'll need to worry about refuelling after only 150 miles, despite the Harley-beating 40mpg the bike returns.What you get on the Kawasaki is a consistency of quality that Harley still struggles with. The finish and detailing are to a high standard generally (luggage aside) and you know you won't start seeing major components corrode as soon as you roll it out of the showroom. Like virtually all hard working, blue collar car guys, Jim respected Earnhardt's talent, virtues and will to succeed. And, after spending significant time piloting his own open-wheel modified, he especially admired Dale's tenacity and skill. In 1998, Jim was present as The Intimidator clenched his milestone Daytona 500 victory. In 2001, he shared the heartbreak of NASCAR losing its biggest and brightest star. And, in 2004, when his wife mentioned the long-planned tribute, he began assembling this award winning, 1 of 1 chopper. While most professional motorcycles are standardized, mass-produced packages that lack the intensity and attention to detail of grassroots art, true customs maintain a level of style and authenticity that can be tweaked and massaged to create an individual masterpiece. The product of a five month build, this awesome 'Performance Barn' chopper features traditionally sculpted sheetmetal that's bathed in a familiar House of Kolor basecoat. When that clean pigment dried, a dynamic theme of success, family and gratitude was ignited at its forks, fueled through its tank and sealed on its fender by high quality PPG clear. And that rugged sheen reflects a glossy, wet-look shine that, thanks to skilled work by Ed Head Graphics of Des Moines, Iowa, makes people stop, turn and stare! On the surface, this show stopping chopper is an incredible tribute to one tough customer. In practice, it's Jim's way of saying thanks to many respected peers, as every piece of the bike's world class hardware was hand selected based on character and merit. Up front, a Perse Performance fork centers a Paul Yaffe fender between an Arlen Ness headlight, a 21-inch Carriage Works wheel and an MH90-21 Avon Venom X tire. At the side of that wheel, a high quality Performance Machine brake system utilizes braided Goodridge lines to squeeze a polished, dual-piston caliper around a giant, drilled rotor. Above that caliper, chrome Paul Yaffe handle bars hang stylish Arlen Ness mirrors in front of slick Performance Machine Renthals. Behind those grips, the bike's smooth, Softail frame cradles a highly detailed RevTech V-twin that mixes a polished casing with a classic, instantly recognizable sound. Like virtually all hard working, blue collar car guys, Jim respected Earnhardt's talent, virtues and will to succeed. And, after spending significant time piloting his own open-wheel modified, he especially admired Dale's tenacity and skill. In 1998, Jim was present as The Intimidator clenched his milestone Daytona 500 victory. In 2001, he shared the heartbreak of NASCAR losing its biggest and brightest star. And, in 2004, when his wife mentioned the long-planned tribute, he began assembling this award winning, 1 of 1 chopper. While most professional motorcycles are standardized, mass-produced packages that lack the intensity and attention to detail of grassroots art, true customs maintain a level of style and authenticity that can be tweaked and massaged to create an individual masterpiece. The product of a five month build, this awesome 'Performance Barn' chopper features traditionally sculpted sheetmetal that's bathed in a familiar House of Kolor basecoat. When that clean pigment dried, a dynamic theme of success, family and gratitude was ignited at its forks, fueled through its tank and sealed on its fender by high quality PPG clear. And that rugged sheen reflects a glossy, wet-look shine that, thanks to skilled work by Ed Head Graphics of Des Moines, Iowa, makes people stop, turn and stare! On the surface, this show stopping chopper is an incredible tribute to one tough customer. In practice, it's Jim's way of saying thanks to many respected peers, as every piece of the bike's world class hardware was hand selected based on character and merit. Up front, a Perse Performance fork centers a Paul Yaffe fender between an Arlen Ness headlight, a 21-inch Carriage Works wheel and an MH90-21 Avon Venom X tire. At the side of that wheel, a high quality Performance Machine brake system utilizes braided Goodridge lines to squeeze a polished, dual-piston caliper around a giant, drilled rotor. Above that caliper, chrome Paul Yaffe handle bars hang stylish Arlen Ness mirrors in front of slick Performance Machine Renthals. Behind those grips, the bike's smooth, Softail frame cradles a highly detailed RevTech V-twin that mixes a polished casing with a classic, instantly recognizable sound. At the back of that engine, a custom PB Choppers primary cover hangs between a full set of Paul Yaffe pegs and a custom PB Choppers tail light. Above that light, a Jesse James fuel tank anchors a comfy Danny Gray seat in front of a PB Choppers fender. And below that fender, a second Performance Machine disc hovers next to a 250/40R18 Avon Venom R that spins around a second Carriage Works wheel. The bike's awesome bling is augmented by a 110 cubic inch RevTech V-Twin which utilizes Crane Hi-4 ignition, RevTech roller rockers, forged 4340 rods and an Andrews .560 cam to twist 115 horsepower into 120 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of the polished block, a clever 'steering wheel motor mount' splits the difference between quality Taylor plug wires and sleek chrome rocker boxes that were specifically chosen for this build. On the right side of the frame, a familiar Mikuni carburetor slurps wind through a snazzy Force One air cleaner. Below that carb, chrome rod covers lead the eye to a polished PB Choppers oil tank, a "RevTech" branded cam cover and Arlen Ness Shotgun pipes. That top notch hardware rolls on a capable Santee frame, which mixes a 6-inch stretch with a 42 degree rake. The V-twin's power flows through a chrome RevTech 6-speed, which provides solid shifts and reliable cruising. And overall, cast and machined as a durable, 2-piece assembly, the fully sorted drivetrain is an affordable and efficient means to make this custom a virtual handful in the best possible way! We also help private sellers re-market and or sell their vehicles for them. 2.Can I pick up the vehicle and pay for it myself at an Alpine holding facility?Yes, many of our customers happen to choose this option if they are located near a particular facility. Therefore, if you decide to exercise the option to pay at our holding facility with a bank check you must address ALL refunds with that facility. 3.What happens if I arrive at the facility and I see that the vehicle is missing parts, its not what it seemed to be in the images, it was tampered with, keys are missing etc.? Do not accept the vehicle or allow it past the gate. Once it leaves the facility we are unable to file a claim with the seller. We advertise all of our vehicles to the best of our ability. Our damaged vehicle selection is sold on an AS IS basis. If for any reason you receive a vehicle that is completely inaccurate from its description (ie, VIN, Run & Drive, Gasoline or Diesel, Clean or Salvage Title) please contact our offices and we will assist you in an exchange or a refund depending on which payment method was applied. As far as keys are concerned, we do not guarantee keys once the vehicle leaves our facility. Where is the vehicle?Vehicles are stored at an Alpine in Texas and facilities across the nation that store and/or resell vehicles for our company thru wholesale auctions that we purchase in bulk from rental fleets, and insurance companies. Make sure you check vehicle city, state, zip and lot location prior to placing any offers, good chances are that vehicles are in transit, stored at another location, or still at the facility in which they were purchased across the nation. It is important to check or ask our team for the City, State, Zip code and lot location are on each individual listing. 5. If I receive a vehicle and I am unhappy with it, will you assist in reselling?Yes, we will be more than willing to assist in finding an auction facility near your location to resell your vehicle. We have a global audience bidding on these vehicles. Our team will help you find a replacement as well, if needed. Please understand our descriptions are brief and in most cases we are unable to physically inspect all of them. We urge all buyers to inspect vehicles themselves or hire a 3rd party inspection service before purchasing a vehicle. 6. What form of payments do you accept?We DO NOT accept PayPal for full and final payment. We only accept official bank checks at our location, and our storage facilities.
