1970 Trackmaster Norton 750 Commando Desert Motocross Vintage custom buildTHIS IS A BUY IT NOW AUCTION Built back in 1970 and modified continuously throughout that decade, this bike was built by the son of a famous western movie star from the 1940's & 50's. Constructed here in Phoenix with no care given to the cost, hence no expenses were spared. Trackmaster oil-in-frame custom ordered & built for desert racing with long steering rake. Still sporting it's beautiful original nickel finish. Trackmaster is known for their highly sucessful flat track frames, and this was specifically built for MX & desert racing. Quite possibly the only desert spec Norton frame they ever built surely making it one of a kind. Also has it's custom built Trackmaster swingarm with dual shock positions. When I bought this bike from the original owner, he guesstimated that he had over $40K invested, and these were in 1970's dollars too. So you can only imagine what it might cost to try and replicate this bike today.......and that's if you could find these unobtainium parts. Engine is a 1970 Norton 750 Commando motor which was balanced & blueprinted w/extensive hi-po head & cylinder work. Norton 4 speed transmission - was totally blueprinted. Massey Ferguson points Magneto ignition. Custom built aluminum desert skid plate protects all vitals--see photos. Very rare vintage Hurst Airheart disc brakes w/stainless braided lines – front & rear (cutting edge trick for 1970). Leo St. Martin high seat w/ new velour seat cover. Steve Simons 38mm forks & triples w/custom valving & damping rods. Charles Curnutt long travel desert shocks were custom ordered and were then hand built by Charles. Buchanan built rear wheel. w/stainless heavy duty spokes. Dynamic Machine front & rear axles. Charlie Cavallo open megaphone dual exhaust (these are a work of art). 40mm Del Orto carburetor w/ K&N filter. Charlie Cavallo custom primary housing. Custom billet aluminum magneto cover & various bits. Lightened bolts and nuts (mostly titanium & aluminum). Lightened sprockets and discs. Don Vesco desert tank. Husqvarna aluminum fenders & mounting brackets. Preston Petty front # plate/tool box. All high risk bolts & nuts safety wired for racing. There's more I just can't remember. When I was loading the bike the owner started telling me about all the engine mods, but after a while my head was spinning as it was just too much for me to absorb. Rest assured, there probably isn't another 750 vintage dirt race bike that can keep up with this one. So now you can tell all those other guys riding their Rickman Triumph 750 desert sleds to "EAT MY ROCKS!" The one time I fired up and rode this bike was like living through one of California's 8.5 magnitude earthquakes. It was so stinking loud and is so ridiculously fast that it really is quite scary, and let me assure you that this bike is a real handful and is of expert level riding skill required. Without a doubt this is a man's bike, for sure. This is a loud, brash, 'in your face' vintage desert sled. It is beyond trick--beyond works---it's simply one of a kind and would most likely be impossible to duplicate now. Here's your chance to buy at less than 1/2 it's 1970's build cost. $17,500.00 ONLY ISSUES I can find are: Normal wear. Excellent compression and spark. Starts easily and runs strong. Bike has been sitting for a while and should have a complete RACE PREP by you prior to riding or racing it.Please look at photos and ask questions USE PHOTO ZOOM FEATURE. 1970 Norton 750Trackmaster Vintage Off-RoadCommando Desert racer NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING OR BUYERS UNLESS BUYER MAKES ALL ARRANGEMENTS, and only then if I am CONTACTED IN ADVANCE. Trackmaster oil-in-frame built specifically for desert racing-- beautiful original nickel finish. Custom Trackmaster swingarm with dual shock positions. 1970 Norton 750 Commando motor - balanced & blueprinted w/extensive head work. Norton 4 speed transmission - blueprinted. Massey Ferguson points Magneto ignition. Custom built aluminum desert skid plate protects all vitals. Vintage Hurst Airheart drilled disc brakes w/stainless braided lines – front & rear (cutting edge trick for 1970's). Leo St. Martin high seat w/ new velour seat cover. Steve Simons 38mm forks & triples. Charles Curnutt long travel desert shocks. Buchanan built wheels w/custom stainless hubs and stainless steel spokes. Dynamic Machine rear and front axles. Charlie Cavallo open megaphone dual exhaust (these are a work of art). 40mm Del Orto carburetor w/ K&N filter & ACK intake manifold. Charlie Cavallo custom primary housing. Custom billet aluminum magneto cover & various bits. Lightened bolts and nuts (mostly titanium & aluminum). Lightened sprockets and discs. Vesco desert tank. 1970 vintage Husqvarna aluminum fenders with custom mounting brackets (see last photo). Preston Petty front #plate / tool box w/vintage desert number plate. 3.25x21 front tire and 5.00x18 rear. All high risk bolts & nuts were safety wired for racing. This is a loud, brash, in your face vintage desert sled. If you're caught behind this bike while racing then you'd be in trouble--if the sound from those open megaphones don't kill you then the roost from that rear tire will. It is beyond trick--beyond 'works' even---it truly is a one-of-a-kind bike and would be impossible to duplicate now. I purchased this bike from the original owner/builder (the son of a famous Hollywood western film star of the 1950's) who had informed me that he had lost count of all the $$ he had invested in this bike. His estimate was 'somewhere around $40,000 or upwards over the years'. He told me that he had always wanted the ultimate MX/desert bike so in 1970 he contacted Trackmaster Racing Frames (who were famous for their short and long track flat-track frames) and specifically requested that they custom build him a motocross / grand prix desert frame for a Norton 750 motor that would have the longer rake steering angle for high speed tracking & stability. He paid them what was a small fortune at the time and waited forever, as Trackmaster was up to their eyeballs making their cutting edge flat track frames. The wait was worth it though because what you see here is this one of a kind / 'only one in the world' frame. Bike started out with conventional Betor short travel suspension and eventually evolved into the bike you see here. He spent ridiculous amounts of $$ on every trick part he could find or have custom built. His budget was unlimited. This bike was raced--improved upon---and raced again until it evolved into the long travel incarnation you see here. I doubt that there is another bike like this anywhere in the world and I sincerely doubt that anyone could duplicate this bike today, at any cost. Most of these parts are one off, and the ones that aren't are surely unobtainable now. Take a close look at those wheels & sprockets, the engine & exhaust, the carb & intake, the footpegs and brake arm, etc. Over 40 years of time and buckets of money have gone into turning a British heavyweight into this lightweight fighting machine. This is the one and only 750 Norton desert frame that was ever built by Trackmaster. Original nickel plate finish still shines like new. THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND BIKE AND SHOULD GO INTO A TOP LEVEL VMX OR OFF ROAD RACING COLLECTION OR MUSEUM. In all my years of collecting these bikes I've never run across another one even remotely like it. Bike has very few miles on it since it was restored. Please use ZOOM feature and check out the photos carefully. ---SEE BELOW FOR FURTHER PURCHASE AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS--- Bike is ready for YOUR RACE PREP prior to riding or racing it.Please look at photos and ask questions (USE zoom FEATURE). This is your best way to determine it's condition so PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AND ASK QUESTIONS if unclear about anything.Az-Mike 623-465-0636.
