Odometer reading is 06551 total and actual miles. Registered in Texas is current. Some history according to the International Amphicar Club: The Amphicar was built in Germany from 1961 to 1968. Total production was 3,878 vehicles. The Amphicar is the only civilian amphibious passenger automobile ever to be mass produced. 3,046 Amphicars were imported into the United States between 1961 and 1967. The Amphicar is rear engined and uses a 4 cylinder British-built Triumph Herald motor producing 43hp. All Amphicars are convertibles, and the civilian models were originally offered in only 4 colors, Beach White, Regatta Red, Lagoon Blue and Fjord Green (Aqua). The backbone of the Amphicar's electrics is basically a Lucas 12 volt positive ground system with certain items such as the horn, lighting and switches made by other manufacturers such as Hella and Bosch. The Amphicar has a top speed of 7mph on water and 70mph on land. Hence, it was dubbed the "Model 770". The Amphicar is moved in the water by its twin nylon propellers. A special two-part land-and-water transmission built by Hermes (makers of the Porsche transmission) allows the wheels and propellers to be operated either independently or simultaneously. The "land transmission" is a 4-speed-plus-reverse unit similar to those found in the old Volkswagen Beetles. The "water transmission" is a 2-speed offering unique to the Amphicar featuring single forward and reverse gears. In the water, the front wheels act as rudders. And this from the Web Site "The Wonderful World of the Amphicar" FAQs:AMPHICAR BACKGROUNDERAmphicar was manufactured in Germany (Berlin and Lubeck) from 1961 to 1967. Just under 4000 were produced, most went to USA (at least 3700), There are maybe 500 still in regular use, with are 7 in the UK and about 80 in the rest of Europe.Even now, Amphicar is the only non-military Amphibious vehicle ever put into production on a commercial basis (ie more than 100 produced). The many rules and regulations for road and water going vehicles make it very unlikely that another car based amphibian will ever be produced.Amphicar is capable of over 70mph on road, 8 knots on water. It is comfortable enough to drive 500 miles a day, road behaviour is similar to a good 1960s European saloon car or a 1980s American car.Amphicar cost $5m to design in the late 1950's. It is totally watertight. The engine is in the rear, it is the same as used in the Triumph Herald, 1147cc, 43HP, transmission drives rear wheels through unique land/water gearbox.Amphicar has connections with other manufacturers, many Amphicar employees came from Borgward and there are many parts in common between the cars. Much of the braking system and suspension is Mercedes. The transmission internals are Porsche 356 as are some parts of the fuel system. In 1967 the Amphicar corporation was owned by the Quandt group, who also owned and still own a controlling share of, BMW.Amphicar failed because it was too expensive when new, however it is capable of some serious sea crossings, ie Africa to Spain, San Diego to Catalina Island and England to France (3 times, once in a force 6 gale).Amphicar is made of steel so was prone to rust, however modern paint and waxes can stop rust being a problem. It does need more maintenance than other cars but maintenance schedules are no worse than some 4x4 vehicles.Amphicar has the highest rear fins of any production car, about 1 inch higher than a '59 Cadillac.Amphicar is great in snow, better than many 4x4s. With 10 inches of ground clearance, a totally flat bottom and narrow rear wheels Amphicar has tremendous traction and ability,A car that looks like the Amphicar from the rear is the Jaguar XK220, Below bumper level the shape is almost identical - a large bulge around the engine and everything very flat for ground effect/hydrodynamics. The Jaguar does not have the advantage of propellers which makes it much slower in the water !Amphicar featured in US movie "Pontiac Moon".Amphicar spare parts still available in the US, contact Hugh Gordon, 14330 Iseli Road, Santa Fe Springs, California 90670. telephone 714 523 3512 fax 562 404 1904Many people have tried to build a better Amphibian than the Amphicar, there are as many as 2 or 3 a year, to date nobody has managed to improve on the original package. You just may need this well-kept model in your collection, or you might need to take your friends on a little spin in the lake. Every once in a while a rare opportunity emerges in the collectible car world that combines the authenticity of originality, the patina of age with the care of reconditioning. This 2100 mile Amphicar sports its original tires and spare which has never hit the ground. This Amphi was locked away in a museum for many years and has just completed a mechanical reconditioning as well as a new exterior paint. This included all new brake cylinders all new fluids; new engine rubbers; The interior-original to the car- is as fresh and crisp as the day it left the factory including original front and rear seats, original floor mat, all original gauges and the very rare jack holder in the cargo hold. As a late model Amphi it has the interlocking bilge blower in place which requires a one minute run of the bilge blower before the ignition will start. The automatic fuel shut-off magneto and spark arester, both requirements of the US Coast Guard, have not been altered and are fully operational. The lines and gaps are straight and true and it is clear that this Amphi has seen very little service time nor has it been exposed to the elements. Recent work includes new brake cylinders, new engine wires, new rubber door and lid seals new window gaskets new window glides new window riubbers and a new top. The original tool kit and jack come with the vehicle. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a very drivable and functional Amphi that shows the care of its prior owners. Virtually every rubber component has been replaced including radiator gaskets interior door jamb trim a new top new side moldings, and new rear bumperette. Buyers are encouraged to inspect prior to bidding. If you have less then 10 positive feed backs please contact prior to bidding. The Seller reserves the right to end the auction prior to end.

View Large Images ? ? Description 1964 Amiphicar Model 770. Beach White / Red, 1175cc I4 engine, four-speed manual transmission, twin propellers. It's a car -- no it's a boat! This is a 1964 Amphicar Model 770, presented in Beach White over a red and black interior. Despite its claim of being the most successful amphibious road-going car sold in the U.S., the Amphicar is incredibly rare, with less than 3,900 models ever produced. This is a very well-kept example that has been fastidiously cared for and is said to still be water-worthy.The model name "770" was chosen as an Amphicar could hit 7 mph on the water and 70 mph on dry land. As configured by the factory, Model 770 Amphicars are powered by a 1175cc inline-four that was transplanted from a Triumph Herald, and it is backed by a four-speed manual transmission. In the water, a simple lever switches the Amphicar from rear-wheel drive to twin rear propellers, with the front wheels doing the steering in the water as well as on land.Model 770s were available in only four colors from the factory: Beach White, Lagoon Blue, Fjord Green and Classic Regatta Red. This example is finished in Beach White, which was the second most popular factory color. The car features a white manual soft top and red vinyl bench seats with white piping. Further features include bow & stern lamps, a bilge pump, manual roll-up windows and 13" polished wheels with Goodyear white line tires. On file with this Amphicar is the original owner's manual, technical info, life vests and even an oar. With less than 3,900 ever built, the Amphicar has developed a rabid cult following. This is an incredibly well-kept and well-presented example that won't stick around for too long -- don't miss out. ?Directions to Dealer ?Contact Us Options and Standard Features Basic Information VIN Number: 100833 Stock Number: 8476 Model Year: 1964 Make: Amphicar Model: Model 770 Vehicle Type: 2 Dr Convertible Exterior Color: Beach White Interior Color: Red DriveTrain Transmission: Manual Contact Park Place LTD 13710 NE 20th Street Bellevue Washington 98005 View Map Ask for:Dave Bruski Toll Phone:(888) 558-9474 Primary Phone:(425) 503-0980 Contact: ?Contact Us Hours Mon-Sat:08:00 AM-07:00 PM PST Sunday:10:00 AM-06:00 PM PST Terms Placing a Bid: Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle.
