~ 1971 CB500 Four K0 Super Sport ~ Frame/VIN# 1002857 Meaning it was made 2857th of the first year of production of the CB500 Four. Engine # 1003111 Engine was made 3111th...These are "matching" VIN/Engine #s for Honda in 1971. Comes with another tank and side covers, the 1971 brown version (which this bike was off the production line). The brown tank is in similar condition, looks new with the one dent being on top and in a nice easy spot to repair. I will also include a very nice perfectly clean DENT FREE TANK that has been painted in the cafe racer style. Thats three tanks, so no worries on what to wear to the party. I will post photos of the other tanks and side covers as well as a video in the next 2 days. The mileage is unknown because the one of the few missing parts when purchased was the Speedometer. After 1.5 years of restoring this machine along side 3 other cb500/cb550s with varied mileage, with first hand knowledge of the engine internals, their comparisons revealed a good estimate of this here beauty's mileage to be around 8-12K. A look inside the top end and the cylinders, showed the stock pistons and rings all were in good condition. The tiny stamped markings on the rings were still clearly visible which points indicates lower mileage. While in the top end I cleaned ALL the carbon build up on every part. It looks new inside. Valves and Seats were lapped until smooth, they are air tight now, and the # 3 exhaust valve was replaced. All new valve guide seals were then installed. Then to give the bike a HUGE BOOST in power the legendary CB650 camshaft swap was performed. The difference this upgrade makes is just plain awesome. This 45 year old machine has lots of power with rebuilt top end, performance cam, and its a lot lighter than stock with the 4 into 1 pipes... short muffler in place of the long and weighty 4 into 4 pipes took lots of lbs off her. Carbs have been ultrasonic cleaned, and freshly rebuilt with new o-rings and gaskets. The bowls and slide covers have all been polished. New tygon fuel lines. New Stainless Steel Hex screws are in place of the old float bowl screws which makes rejetting much easier. Speaking of rejetting, the carbs are still 100% stock with 40 pilot jets and 100 main jets. She runs very strong especially at low and middle rmps, but shes loosing a little "umph" at wide open throttle. With the uni foam air filter and 4 into 1 exhaust I'd recommend 110s for the mains, the pilots should be just fine. 4 new 110 main jets cost less than $20. Needle clip is also in the stock position. As far as tuning the carbs, you can change both the needle clip position and main jets with a screwdriver and hex key...and most importantly without the laborious task of removing the carburetors. I am willing to install any new jets if the buyer has them sent to my address. New cylinder base gasketNew Head gasketNew oil passage o-rings and 6 new rubber pucks under the valve coverNew valve cover seal8 New intake manifold o-ringsNew spark plugsNew Spark Plug CapsNew Uni Hi-Flow Air FilterNew rocker cam cover o ringsNew tappet cover o ringsNew points cover gasketNew Stator Cover "HONDA" PlateNew Stator cover gasketFront forks disassembled, cleaned, inspected and rebuild with new sealsNew OEM front Fork BootsWheel bearings are smoothNew front brake master cylinderFront brake caliper assembly disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt with new seal.New bronze motocross racing (lightweight) handle bars ($130)New GripsNew rear Tank mount rubberNew batterySpeedo, tach and headlight bucket have been sanded and repainted with 2 stage urethane satin black and clear coated.Bike comes with the original 1971 OEM owners manuel and tool kitAlso the original handlebars for returning back to stock if desired Not-perfect-by-any-means ListOriginal seat cover looks really good, there are one or 2 tiny pin holes in the 45 year old vinyl. Front fender has some little scratchy-dings and some pitting in the chrome. Rear fender looks better but still has tiny pits that you can see when you get your face up close. Tachometer isnt hooked up right now due to the cb650 cam upgrade. The worm gear on the cb650 cam doesn't play nice with the stock 500 tach gear, so it required the removal of the cb500 tach gear. The cb650 tach gear will need to be installed before the tach will work. As of now the hole for the tach gear is capped. Otherwise, I have the original camshaft and tacho gear gingerly tucked away in a box for the winner. For the over all aesthetics of this resto-mod build I removed the front blinkers, but I can install them no problem at the wish of the winner. Currently the left tank emblem is off to show the tank dent. I will install for winner of auction.Tank is incredible to look at except for the unfortunate crease-like dent on the left side. Its a weird dent because despite its size, it sorta hides itself...especially when shes on the side stand. Neutral can be a little stiff at times, NOT TERRIBLE AT ALL came this way stock in 1971, honda later issued a parts fix for this in a 1972-3 bulletin. Rear brake arm needs a longer shaft to mount to. I will fix before winner picks up. I have a video of a walk around and drive off that will be posted in a link below in a couple of days. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! Even better, these saddlebags open from the top, so your gear won't end up spilled all over the highway. They keep your fancy unmentionables dry, and the chrome latches won't corrode in bad weather. And when you're off the road, one common key starts the bike and gives you access to your saddlebags, keeping your pockets as uncluttered as your bike's refined design. The premium Tour-Pak® adds to the luxury look and gives you even more space to pack stuff for the road a pouch for your quick-reach items like cell phones, keys and wallet. TOUR-PAK®-MOUNTED 12V POWER SUPPLYWhether you need a quick charge for your cell phone or dinner from a hotplate on a lonely stretch of road, knowing you've got 15 amps of power to get through the day or night goes a long way. And don't worry about pesky rain spoiling your power supply—the spring-loaded cap keeps the receptor dry and free of road muck. HAND FINISHED FUEL TANKHarley-Davidson® fuel tanks are finished by hand—that's what makes them stand out from the competition. Their seamless design and unmatched style are unique among all motorcycles on the road. The tanks are one of the first and last things people notice when they lay their eyes on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle—so we make it worth their time. And a classically styled, bold six-gallon fuel tank doesn't just give you a bigger canvas for premium or custom paint; it holds six gallons of go so you can eat up a lot more road between pit stops. CHROME WRAPAROUND LED BRAKE/TAIL LAMPThe back end of the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide model demonstrates once again the premium style and innovative engineering you'll find with the Custom Vehicle Operations at Harley-Davidson. The taillight features an integrated chrome wraparound brake light for a clean look. And with its wraparound coverage, you get additional style, increased visual footprint at night and long-lasting LEDs that just keep burning on. CHROME CHISEL WHEELSAggressive yet balanced, every element of the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide model is painstakingly designed to deliver the most luxurious riding experience—and that includes the chrome Chisel wheels with matching open rotors. With a 17-inch front wheel and a 16-inch in back, this Ultra boasts smooth, nimble handling no matter where your journey takes you.SCREAMIN' EAGLE® TWIN CAM 110™ ENGINE INNOVATIONFire up the Twin Cam 110™ engine and feel the low-end torque unleashed. The colossal 110 cubic inches provide seemingly endless torque with adrenaline-pumping pull through all six gears. Boasting the largest-displacement V-Twin engine by Harley-Davidson, the Twin Cam 110™ produces 118 ft. lbs. of torque at 3750 rpm. Six speeds. A strong driveline and strong internal parts. Low routine maintenance. And a low cruising rpm couldn't feel better. Feast your eyes on the Twin Cam 110™ engine and there's no mistaking its roots. This is authentic Harley-Davidson® style through and through with an attention to detail you won't find from any other motorcycle company. Granite heads and cylinders feature machined cooling fin tips and are highlighted by chrome rocker covers. Exclusive to Custom Vehicle Operations™, the granite powertrain and 110 badging are unapologetically distinguished. It's a jewel machined out of metal. Pure. Dripping with power. From the classic edge of the cooling fins to the clean lines of cases and covers—the Twin Cam 110™ engine makes an ironclad statement to holding on to what's right and staying true to what satisfies the rider.'VENTILATOR' INTAKE WITH SCREAMIN' EAGLE® 110 INSERTEverything about the Screamin' Eagle® Twin Cam 110™ Engine is a testament to the premium styling and performance you get with a limited Custom Vehicle Operations™ motorcycle. Right smack between the engine jugs rests the high-flow 'ventilator' intake with high-flow filter element, back plate, diamond-cut, charcoal Screamin' Eagle badge and protective rain sock. Your bike will breathe easy while the increased air flow boosts the raw power. Unique and exclusive. That is what Custom Vehicle Operations is all about. SIX-SPEED CRUISE DRIVE®You want a ride that rumbles—not begs for mercy—when you lean on it a little. The Six-Speed Cruise Drive® transmission provides smooth, quiet shifting and reduces engine speed on the highway, so you get a better match between engine turnover and road speed. And the Isolated Drive System makes acceleration flow in a smooth, steady stream from your wrist right down to the pavement. It's a rare ride when a bike responds like this, and a low growl goes a long way when you're opening up the road ahead. HYDRAULIC CLUTCHPerformance gets the custom treatment on Custom Vehicle Operations™ motorcycles. The addition of a high-performance clutch with hydraulic actuation helps make sure you're getting a smooth, confident feel with just the right amount of effort and a hands-off reliability that's only fitting. And you'll love the confidence and control it lends when harnessing those 110 cubic inches of Screamin' Eagle® power. BREMBO® ANTI-LOCK BRAKESWhen it comes to the CVO™ Ultra Classic® Electra Glide® model with ABS, 'stopping power' has a double meaning. The components of our ABS are tastefully hidden within the wheel hub, so you'll still turn heads with a clean, streamlined design. More importantly, though, you get certainty in the saddle knowing your bike's going to behave when you need it. Confidence. Control. High-performance dual disc Brembo® brakes offer consistent stopping power. The 4-piston front and rear calipers with dual front rotor brake system is state of the art and top of the line. It's just another way The Motor Company puts a high level of detail into their bikes to give you peace of mind throughout your journey. HIGH OUTPUT ACCESSORY CONNECTORHarley-Davidson® touring means maximum comfort in all conditions and the capacity to add whatever enhances and personalizes your ride. The high output charging system provides an electrical capacity robust enough for your add-ons: heated vests, lights to showcase the engine, you name it. So if you're hell-bent on two-wheeling it, we make sure you've got the juice to do it your way. ELECTRONIC CRUISE CONTROLIf you're ready to take Touring to the next level, the cruise control feature will help you settle in for the long haul. Get the comfort of the cruise without the cables cluttering up your handlebar. Our electronic throttle control technology makes it possible to have the best of both worlds. INTUITIVE CONTROLSHand controls on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle are incredibly intuitive. The turn signals are self-canceling and, based on the speed and angle of the motorcycle, they know how long to stay on. Engaging the controls quickly becomes second nature so you can focus less on turning off your signal and more on basking in the freedom of the ride. HARMAN KARDON® AUDIO WITH BOOM!™ AUDIO FEATURESNaturally, the king of the road gets some royal extras. When it comes to hearing your tunes or just keeping your own chatter free and easy, the premium Harman Kardon audio system has it all: 4 speakers (2 up front and 2 in back) with an amplifier that distributes 40 watts per channel, an AM/FM receiver, CD and MP3 player—even an intercom and CB. It's loud, it's proud and yeah, it might as well go to 11. Plus, new for 2012, we've improved the already awesome sound by upgrading to BOOM! Audio High-Performance BOOM! Bagger speakers with customized equalization for BOOM! audio, and added BOOM! Audio Bass Booster Tour-Pak Ports to give these blasters the room to move booming deep bass. Sure, that's a lot of boom, but we figure you can handle it. IPOD® PORTJust having the juice to let loose isn't enough to call this system custom. It's your tunes that tell the story of your life on two wheels. With an iPod® dock in the right-hand saddlebag, a module integrated into the radio, and the intuitive controls right at your fingertips, the music is now yours, and that story is yours to write. ROAD TECH ZuMO® 660 NAVIGATION SYSTEMYou may know where you're headed, but this little dandy helps you get more out of every mile. The quick-mount cradle makes it easy to mount and detach and it plays nice with the bike's tight lines. Designed by bikers for bikers, it's preloaded with City Navigator® NT street maps and markers for H-D® dealers, motels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and anything else you might need while out on the road. H-D® SMART SECURITY SYSTEM WITH SIREN AND AUTOMATIC BIKE LOCKThe factory installed next-generation security system with siren features a hands-free fob that automatically arms and disarms the vehicle electronic security functions as you approach and walk away from the bike. Stick the fob on your ignition key ring and let it do all the work. For additional peace of mind, the automatic bike lock features a key fob that locks the ignition, Tour-Pak and saddlebags so you won't have to worry about leaving your valuables tucked away on your ride. It's this attention to detail and rider security that make Harley-Davidson® motorcycles unique. HEATED HAND GRIPSWhen the chill gets at you, just having a little heat would be nice enough. But this is a Harley-Davidson® Custom Vehicle Operations™ motorcycle and we're all about the details. Our heated handgrips have six settings, so you can easily adjust on the fly for the heat you need with the versatility and control you come to depend on. VENTED FAIRING LOWERSDon't be a prisoner to the elements outside—take control of your ride with the color-matched fairing lowers on the CVO™ Ultra Classic® Electra Glide® model. Slide them open for a cooler ride or leave them fixed to fight the wind tooth and nail. Use the glove boxes to empty your pockets, ditch your phone, and ride free. When it comes to Touring, Harley-Davidson® Custom Vehicle Operations™ is all about optimal comfort every time you hunt down a horizon. FULL-LENGTH FOOTBOARDSYour boots were made for riding, in any way you see fit. Our full-length rider footboards boast a tried and true design that's stood the test of time. I saw a lot of similar bikes on CL when creating this ad but none customized to the extent this bike has been! Surprised me because I originally had plans to add even more chrome and accessories. Well, let's start with the actual "Contract of Sale" from Navy Auto Sales-Pacific (shown on our listing and copy available to prospective buyers) outlining the order of the Sunbeam Tiger. The Tiger was ordered by Terry V. Gustavson, an officer in the U.S. Navy serving on the Destroyer U.S.S. Brister. Lt. Gustavson placed the order for his red Tiger with the only options for color(s) being a red exterior with a black interior. The Contract of Sale includes the Lieutenant's identifying information (Service number, passport number and birth date). At the time of the order (May 31, 1965) Lt. Gustavson was 27 years of age. The agreement further shows an anticipated delivery date of July 15-August 1 and delivery to his U.S. address. The contract is signed by Terry and acknowledged by an unidentifiable signature by a representative of Navy Auto Sales. The total stated cost of the vehicle is: Factory price with U.S. specifications: $2,980.00 Documentation & pre-delivery service: $35.00 Whitewall tires (5): $18.00 Ammeter: $9.00 Total: $3,042.00 Less Deposit: -$437.00 Balance Due: $2,605.00 This Sunbeam Tiger Mk. I, was the subject of an extensive, documented restoration. Currently powered by a 289 c.i Ford engine and 4-speed top loader, the car was originally fitted with a 4.3 liter 260 c.i. Ford V8 engine that accompanies the Tiger. The new owner will also receive the well preserved, unrestored original black hardtop and the 260 c.i. engine. The restoration work represented a complete effort which including but not limited to: paint, interior, trim, carpet and upholstery, convertible top, and wheels (period style Panasports wrapped in excellent Toyo Premium Touring rubber). Virtually all of the mechanical components were also completely restored. The information that we received indicated that the Tiger has low mileage since the restoration was completed. The body is very straight with very good hood, trunk and door fit. The factory correct bright red paint is of very high quality showing only minimal flaws that are noticed only upon a close critical inspection. Most of the chrome was replaced and remains in excellent condition. Many of the lenses appear to be new, having been replaced as part of the restoration. The black vinyl soft top is excellent with no fogging to the rear window. The hardtop is damage free with the exception of a ½ golf ball size dent on the driver's side top. The paint is older and the headliner appears to be all original. Front and side glass is excellent and the windows operate smoothly. Window felts / rubber and weather-strips were restored and remain in excellent condition. The interior has been tastefully trimmed in high quality black material with quality replacement black carpets. This example retains a factory wood rimmed steering wheel that is showing signs of deterioration and could stand to be restored. It had been covered with a leather wrap but removal of the cover revealed the aging wheel. However, the wheel structure itself is solid and the car has a functional horn ring. Most of the factory gauges are in place, supplemented by a few period replacement units. Specifically, the speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure and water temperature are factory Jaeger. The fuel gauge and Amp gauge are Lucas and SW respectively. The wood dash has been professionally refinished / restored as has the wiring. All electrical functions are operational including the wipers and lighting. The engine bay was restored while the motor was out such that the inner fender wells and firewall are beautifully painted to match the body color. Evidence of much recent work is visible under the hood, including new wiring, heater controls, an improved cooling system, hoses, and other items. The underside is representative of a proper restoration job, with many components retaining the color of the car, not being covered up with undercoat or painted black. Parts of the frame have been strengthened. The trunk has been repainted to match the body and contains an aftermarket fuel cell installed by the previous owner for improved safety (the original "saddle tanks" were very dangerous, especially in side impact accidents). The trunk is extremely tidy. The car drives very well and is tight and solid. The engine starts immediately, sounds great, and pulls strong. The brakes are effective and the transmission precise. THE "NUMBERS" - The Tiger carries a clear transferable title and the VIN # B9473614. According to the previous owner, the VIN # is documented in the "Book of Norman." - As B9473614 the Tiger would have been released toward the end of the production/build of the Tiger MKI cars (Chassis Numbers B9470001 - B9473762) Note: Approximately 150 cars from the end of the MKI production run of 3,762 cars. - The original 260c.i. engine carries the following build date, casting number and head casting numbers. Based on the decoding of the numbers (below) our research indicates that the engine is authentic Tiger. Engine Code: 4E25 Produced: 4 = 1964 E = 5th Month 25= 25th day Engine / Block Casting Decoding: C40E -6015E C4 = 1964 E = Engine 6015 = Engine Base Assembly (within production run sequence) E = 5th version of engine production Head Numbers (matching & both the same): 4M28 4 = 1964 M = Dec. 28 = 28th day INCLUDED WITH THE SUNBEAM TIGER - Original 260c.i. V8 engine - Original restored red (painted at time of restoration) hood in beautiful condition - Original Tiger wheels (4) - Factory original hardtop (black) - Black roll bar with remaining mounts in car for easy re-installation (Note: Car never raced) - 4 aluminum "period" aftermarket aluminum "turbine" style wheels - Miscellaneous spare components - Car cover - File documenting the restoration - Original Contract of Sale referenced above (and laminated copy) - Restoration photographs Please Note: The buyer is responsible for shipping the vehicle and all spare parts but we will gladly assist with finding a suitable transport company. ADDITIONAL SUNBEAM TIGER HISTORY The slick style of the Sunbeam Tiger puts one in mind of a small Shelby Cobra, and with good reason: Carroll Shelby himself was involved in its design. Shelby's A.C. Cobra wasn't the only British sports car to benefit from Ford V-8 power. The Sunbeam Tiger boasted genuine Carroll Shelby involvement, and could be regarded as a sort of a Junior Cobra." Sunbeam was the sportiest of several English brands controlled by Britain's Rootes Group. Sunbeam had run Grand Prix events and Indianapolis races and built sporting road cars before the Rootes takeover in 1935. Rootes marketed touring cars under the Sunbeam-Talbot badge, but not until the '50s did the name appear on a sports car, the Sunbeam Alpine. Seeking more performance for this trusty if timidly styled four-cylinder roadster, Rootes contracted with Shelby for a prototype with Ford small-block power. Dubbed the Tiger -- after Sunbeam's 1928 land-speed-record car -- it debuted at the 1964 New York Auto Show and soon went into production in England. Visually similar to the concurrent Sunbeam Alpine, the Sunbeam Tiger shared the Cobra's 260-cid Ford V-8, but in milder tune than that 260-hp bomb. Still, the Tiger offered twice the horsepower of the Alpine and very spirited performance. The live-rear-axle and four-speed gear box were Ford's, but the chassis was Sunbeam Alpine's modified by Shelby with a stiffer suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. Brakes remained front discs and rear drums. Handling, road-holding, and ride comfort earned high marks and the torquey V-8 made the car exciting to drive, especially with the narrow tires "of the day." The Sunbeam Tiger boasted a Ford V-8, which gave it plenty of muscle, but ultimately spelled its doom when Sunbeam was acquired by Chrysler, who did not want a Ford-engined car in its lineup. At $3499.00, the Sunbeam Tiger found 6495 buyers before the MKII Tiger went on sale in 1967 (the MK IA was introduced in 1966 but was largely the same car as the '65). It had Ford's 289-cid V-8 with increased horsepower badging that read "Sunbeam V-8" instead of "Powered by Ford 260." Zero-60 times fell two seconds and top speed rose five mph. Most Cobra speed equipment could be fitted, including dual four-barrel carbs for up to 300-hp. Sunbeam Tigers were production-class road-racing threats in America and rally winners in Europe. On the street, they were significantly quicker than the last of the big Healey's or the first of Triumph's six-cylinder TRs. But it didn't matter. Chrysler had bought into the Rootes group in 1964 and couldn't countenance a Ford-powered car. The Sunbeam Tiger II was unceremoniously dumped during 1967. PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to: - How long have they been in business? - How much experience do they have with collector cars? - How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)? - How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle? - Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "glamour shots" taken from a distance? - Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction? - What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license? - Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances? - Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation? - Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales? ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD. - Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same, small, California town for over 20 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar", indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles. - The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair. We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions. - We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping. - Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 780 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World. - We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World. - Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions - We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area. MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION - As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet. - In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, a documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser's responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license/registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law. -Please contact us by telephone if you have any questions regarding the vehicle, shipping quotations or our organization. - We encourage inspections of this Tiger by serious, qualified individuals or professional inspectors prior to the end of the auction. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time. - As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd. - Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle. Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!! - The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources. As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering. Thank you, Classic Cars Ltd. 925-846-1451 Specifications: Body Type / Style:Convertible / Hardtop Exterior Color:Red Interior Color:Black Engine:V8 Transmission:   4 Speed Manual Mileage:69638 Drive:Rear Doors:2 Equipment: 4 Speed Manual Convertible Boot Cover Convertible Top Dual Exhaust Excellent Documentation Exempt From Smog in California Factory Bucket Seats Front Disc Brakes Front Sway Bar Full Instrumentation   Heater / Defroster Original Owners Manual Panasport Wheels Rebuilt Engine Rebuilt Transmission Repair History Repair Receipts Rollbar Seat Belts (Front) Tonneau Cover Factory Hood Incl. We reserve the right to end the auction at anytime. We will be glad to discuss details of a "pre-auction" purchase (925) 846 1451. Inspections of vehicles are encouraged but (by appointment only) must be completed within 24 hours of the end of the auction. Out of state buyers are responsible for the high bid and any shipping costs. California buyers are subject to the appropriate sales tax, DMV transfer, and fees associated with the purchase of any used vehicle sale in the state of California. To avoid shipping the title with the car to our out of state buyers, we mail the title via Priority Mail. While shipping and transportation costs (if appropriate) are the responsibility of the winning bidder, we can assist with locating a suitable transporter. We regularly ship cars all over the USA/World, and can often times locate very competitive rates for transporting vehicles door to door, to a local terminal, enclosed, open, etc. Please call us for specific information/rates to your location. We meet some great people and fellow enthusiasts, and only rarely do we have problems with non-paying bidders. Please be certain that you are prepared to buy the car if you bid, or call us at 925-846-1451 before the end of the auction if we can answer any questions. If you have a "sunglass" rating or fewer than 10 feedback ratings on eBay, please call us before you bid so that we can discuss the bidding process, etc. If we do not hear from you, we reserve the right to delete your bid. MAN YOU GOTTA HAVE A LITTLE FUN IN LIFE ONCE IN A WHILE! (Special thanks to client Kevin S for inspiring this conversion. He dreamed up how he wanted the bike to look and turned the nut-cases of Akron Suzuki Works loose on the project). This bike has done less than 1000 miles since it's conversion and reconditioning. You are essentially getting a heavy-duty GS1100G with some nice cosmetic upgrades plus nut and bolt level re-do of a very solid base machine. It is so much lighter and more nimble with the sport fairing. The best part from a buyer's standpoint is you are getting a very well-sorted out ride for this year and beyond. Most of the bikes we see offered this time of year need a lot of work to be reliable for that vacation trip or daily commute--try getting something worked on this time of year at your favorite shop. This one is ready to hop on and go somewhere! Several bidders enquired about the original luggage and rear box. Those parts are not available but I do have a nice set of Krauser Panniers and a rear box that could be fitted to this bike. The Krausers have keys and are removable just like the original GK bags. This Auction item GS1100GK was a full dresser, factory touring bike designed to compete with Honda's bagger-cruiser tanks in the early 80's. No offense to the baggers out there but it seems to me if you bolted two of those big boys together you'd wind up with your dad's Oldsmobile. There is a "before" photo included and one showing the body-works which were removed. (these parts are NOT included in the auction, they were sold as part of the project). The 'surgery' included removal of the panniers and rear box, a big honking fairing, one of Suzuki’s uglier seat efforts (and Suzuki made some duzies). Underneath all that plastic, there lay a very sturdy machine. Unusual for the day was the air-adjustable rear suspension (which was retained), solid front end with “G” geometry (rather than the kicked out “L” spec that didn’t aid handling), a best-in-industry shaft drive, decent 3-rotor brakes. The balance of the photos show how we did that. The project was fun for us here at Akron Suzuki Works since we got away from the constraints of restoration work to create a mildly customized take on an unusual donor platform. The client was pleased with the results and rode the bike last season but a move to garage-less new digs dictates a sale of the bike. We have the PA title ready to transfer to the new owner. NOTE ON PRICING: The buy-it-plus-build-it cost on this bike was about $7500. We are expecting a lot less but if somebody asks "what's the most your will take" I've got a number. I did set a reserve price on this one (well below $7500). I don't reveal reserve prices so please bid what you think is fair. We understand here that you, the market, decides what everything is worth and the client has to decide if he agrees. Bidders can rest assured that a GS from Akron Suzuki Works is going to be as well-sorted as you are likely to find out there. If your buddy tells you he "got one off Craig's list just like this one" you have my permission to give him a rabbit punch in the adam's apple. Here's how it all went down... The GK shed nearly 100 lbs by the time we deleted the body works and swapped the heavy, double-walled OE exhaust for the tidy V&H 4 into 1 piece (with standard baffle) which also provided a nice improvement to sound. It's loud enough to be heard in traffic but not make enemies in the neighborhood. The massive stock fairing was replaced with a vintage Greer sport fairing with a half-high windscreen which re-directs the air sufficiently to take the load off for all day interstate work while offering a weather protection for colder or (yikes) wetter conditions. We fabricated aluminum brackets to mount the fairing and turn signals and adapted the front harness to suit. A period round headlight from an 1100E was fitted using aftermarket stainless steel fork tube mounts. Original rear air suspension units were retained. The seat was cut down and re-profiled to match a small parcel rack-- we fabricated mounting brackets. The seat was finished with a custom leatherette cover. The GK got a thorough functional updating—carbs overhauled with choke circuits richened to improve cold starting. Pilots and mains were tweaked for the header; charging system re-wire and updated, new battery, forks overhauled with new seals and upgraded to 20 wt fork oil to slow dampening. Free sag set to right-on 24mm with about 13 psi of air over the new oil. The Continental tires still have good tread but are starting to show their age on the sidewalls. They could be run out for a few thousand miles if interstate cruising is your game but handling would gain from fresh rubber. We went with a high temp matt black engine paint and freshened up the side covers with new stickers and a strip and polish on the alloy covers. Painted body bits and pieces—stands, motor mounts, brake torque arm, etc. were removed and powder coated or repainted. A center stand ‘bumper’ was fabricated to keep the stand from bouncing against the exhaust. So, how does she run? Pretty sweet. Starts instantly even on cool mornings after sitting a week (thanks to some carb tweaking) pulls smoothly and evenly to red line, no engine or tranny noises, no crank whirring, clutch basket rattle, smooth shifting and period correct braking and cornering. Other reconditioning notes: --complete strip and refinish of tank, fender and all body plastic plus plastic.—the seat re-profiling lowered the passenger ‘hump’ but still provides comfortable lumbar support for the rider.--charging system got a new stator and all connectors were replaced (its spot on for both amperage and voltage)—mini signals replaced the stock blinker units which were built into the fairing and bags.--full fluid service including middle and final drive cases, oil/filter, brake fluid.--brakes flushed front and back, calipers repaired and pads replaced as required--all electrical (except fuel level indicator in tach) and mechanical functions verified to be working correctly--brake lamp switches, horn, signals, dash display, side stand down warning light, neutral light, gear selection indicator.--cases stripped of clear coat, polished—fuel petcock was rebuilt, new diaphragm (fuel flows when petcock senses vacuum so no worries about fuel leaks). Nit-pics--exhaust system is solid, sounds very nice, shows typical discoloring on the header pipes.--a few blems here and there in the mostly original frame paint—tach displays correctly but the fuel gage built into the tach doesn’t work. The fuel sender in the tank is working so it’s a matter of finding a replacement tach. The odometer works fine though, so just reset that at fill up and you’ll track fill ups fine. --front brakes are solid and progressive but put out a pretty good squeal at the end of a stop. I haven't heard this very often on GS brakes and I'm assuming it is related to not having been ridden much and will subside with use. ABOUT AKRON SUZUKI WORKSIf you are new to our auctions, we are a 2-bay GS-specialty shop. Our crew includes a mechanical engineer and a dealership trained Suzuki mechanic who has built and tuned just about everything GS. We have particular expertise in carb tuning and modification, suspension tuning, charging and electrical systems. It's been a while since we offered a bike on eBay as we frequently get calls to see "if we have any interesting GS' around". We usually do so a lot of our bikes never make it to auction. That's about to change, however, as we have at least 4 bikes which will be listed in the coming days including a GS1150, an '83 GS1100E, an 82 GS 1100G, and an '82 GS550 Katana. I have to get pics uploaded to our photo server. But first, let me tell you about this GK auction bike. There couldn't be many shops around with a nearly exclusive focus on GS bikes from ’80-’83. We do concourse Suzuki restorations for clients (see GS Resources website Aug 2010 Bike of the month) as well as repairs and upgrades and we often wind up taking bikes back in from clients as trades which we offer at auctions--which is the case with this bike. The bike has a clear PA title in or client’s name but we have the bike here in our shop in Akron, OH. I’m particularly careful to provide accurate descriptions as we have sent bikes and parts to Europe, Canada, South America and all over the US--I know buyers don’t like surprises. We offer 12 yrs of feedback as our best reference. We incorporate Suzuki factory service bulletins that have been issued over the years and incorporate a few tricks of our own to improve reliability, safety and performance. We prefer genuine Suzuki OE parts where available including filters and gaskets because they typically are better made, fit better and last longer. We select after-market parts based on experience with what works best. Regarding GS bikesIf you are new to the GS bikes they are quite durable and reliable and better after a few tweaks to the carburation and electrical systems that we do here. Suzuki used a roller bearing crank assembly with a low pressure/high volume oil pump making bottom end failures almost impossible (yeah, I know, anything can be over-revved). The CDI ignitions were maintenance free, shaft drives were quiet and durable, the handling and braking was above average then and up to todays requirements if the bike is set up and serviced correctly. Regarding Fuel and AdditivesRegular unleaded gas is fine as these remarkable engines had compression ratios below 10:1 yet still could deliver 50 mpg. I do recommend use of Red Line SI-1 Complete Fuel system cleaner (on the web at redlineoil.com) which helps keep the small diameter pilot jets and carb passages varnish free. I use a couple oz. each gas fill up. I tore down my own 50-k mile 1100G and the intake manifold and valves were spotless.Oil additives are un-necessary and some can damage the clutch fiber plates. Good quality motorcycle-specific 10-40 non-synthetic oil works fine. Regarding GS Electric SystemsIts my contention that the OE stators and rectifier/regulators were adequate--many of the bikes we work on still have their original stators and rectifier/regulators. The problems are often the result of the connections between components and deteriorating grounds. We replace the bayonette connectors with long-shank, double-crimped connectors which we then shrink wrap to prevent further problems. Please Note: Our prices will obviously be higher than most of the GS bikes you see on eBay. If you can do the work yourself described here, you don’t need us but I do have a loyal customer following of riders who mostly just want to ride and not worry about the details that we tend to here. I base the price largely on the amount of time and materials we have into the bikes. We do contract restorations or repairs for fussy clients and we’re frequently retained to inspect bikes for collectors. Contact me for particulars. Besides the current auction bike I have several 1983 GS1100E’s including a 6k mile, 1-owner, never seen rain example) a 10k GS1100 G and a 6k GS550 Katana which you’ll see on Ebay soon. However, a vintage bike is typically not going to be as reliable as a newer bike and if you are a stickler for cosmetic details you may not be happy with a bike that has some blems. Of course you know by now that any used vehicle is sold as-is/where-is without warrantee expressed or implied.
