Their handling far surpassed their rivals, and the engines are powerful and bulletproof, modelled very closely after Kawasaki's Z-engines, with several interchangeable parts. This is a very usable bike, even today. In fact, I ride it regularly, including on So. Cal Freeways, where it has given me no problems in traffic. The previous owner restored this bike in what he stated was a “frame off restoration”. The bike runs exceptionally well. The following work was done: Frame and bodywork repainted.Carburetors sent for specialist rebuilding with all new parts and tuned perfectly.New brake lines and pads, discs turned and vented.New chain.New seat.New lithium battery and charger.New tires.New speedometer and tachometer cables.New clutch cable.NOS gear-position display (the gear indicator works properly; often these are a problem). Only problem that I know of is that the speedometer needle vibrates at high speed, above about 85 mph. (415) 639-9435 ext.306 The model name GS500E suddenly reappeared in the Suzuki program in 1989. Again, the four-stoke DOHC formula was used but this time there were only two cylinders, with a 180 degree crank. A counterbalancer was used in the engine to get rid of vibrations but despite of the double overhead camshafts the engine had only two valves per cylinder and modest power output. But the GS500E twin had a very rigid frame, Full Floater swing arm, slingshot carburetors, large disc brake at the front and lightweight, hollow 3-spoke wheels. The combination made the chassis better than usually found in commuter bikes. The GS500E has been a popular model for years and it's still in production.
