So pleased with the 946's lines and strong resemblance to it's fore-bearers the Piaggio/Vespa management decided to make this unique scooter not just a half completed Special Edition, but a fully featured production model, built to exacting standards and in very limited numbers. The Vespa 946 is the first North American Vespa to receive the all new 150cc 3 Valve successor to the Leader series engine. Boasting increased power versus the previous 150cc, the 3 valve also has better fuel economy (upto 100mpg) and reduced emissions, thanks to a simplified valve train. But the 946's innovations are not limited to the engine alone: The 946 offers Vespa's own ASR (loosely translated as Automatic Skid Reduction), a unique traction control system to prevent embarrassing moments on wet or dusty roads. The 946 also gets Vespa's Antilock Braking system to again allow for the smoothest possible ride. The Vespa 946's attributes continue from there: Cloth covered grips, stainless seat pivots, and suspension covers, LED display dashboard, and much more.
