1978 VOLKSWAGEN BUS SURVIVOR - 21,715 Original Miles - 2 owner - Rare Automatic$47,500 OBO Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Thanks for checking out this rare survivor Kombi Bay Window, very hard to find in this condition. This bus is probably one of the lowest and most original 1978 VW buses in the country. It was bought new at Eyerly Volkswagen in November 1977, Salem, Oregon. It has spent its whole life right here in the same town for over 38 years. This is a true two owner vehicle, always garaged and always loved and cared for. Some dear friends of mine, Dave and Kay, bought this bus from the original owner’s family in 2008. They were at a family wedding, and ran into an old high school acquaintance. After they started talking, the bus came up in the conversation, they new that Dave and Kay loved special classic cars. She started to explain the history of this VW Bus. The bus was bought new by her father, and after a few years of ownership he had passed away, with only 18,000 miles on the odometer. The bus had still been kept up through the years, but only backed in and out of the garage. Dave loves a great story and he loved this bus, so like any classic vehicle, he pampers and improves them. But he knew this bus was an extremely special and rare find, so he did make a few modifications that he could reverse. They bought this bus to enjoy and show off with his family. They have owned it for the last 7 years, and they loved it so much. It was always the go-to vehicle when they went to car shows. He had one of the nicest 1963 Corvettes in the country, but the Corvette soon took a back seat to this bus. It has been to a lot of shows here in our area. In 2010 they had it up at the Woodburn National VW Meet, and Hot VW's was there. When the editor first saw it, he thought “what a nice restored bus!”, but as he got closer to it, he realized this was an original survivor!! I show pictures of the December issue of Hot VW's and the feature they did on it. At pretty much any show it goes to, it will win an award. They took it to the largest show here in the Northwest, the Portland Roadster Show. Out of all of the cars there, it won the Peoples Choice Award, 1st in Original Class, and the Best Original Engine Compartment. Truly a great showing. I took lots of photos, please check them all out. What you are looking at is an original bus with some upgrades. It is not a restored trailer queen, but it is in awesome condition. The body on this bus is suburb, absolutely no rust, no rust repairs, extremely clean. When they got the bus in 2008, it looked very nice, I actually saw it the day they bought it, Dave dropped it by my place, and I could not believe my eyes. It had some minor chips and small scratches on it, but it had the original wheels and tires on it. It is a very clean and original bus. Dave took it home, and he started to clean it and polish everything. He is retired, and he likes his cars to be kept in great condition. The paint is very nice, with a great shine. I do know that when the first owners had it, her dad had few spots touched up. Behind the rear wheel on the drivers quarter panel, he had scraped it in his garage, and had the VW dealership repaint a small section behind the back wheel on quarter. It had various little chips and small scratches on it from sitting for many years, so it has been detailed on the outside, with small touchup on little chips and scratches. You have to remember it is original paint, so the touchups were just making it as nice as possible. Outside, it looks awesome. It looks good inside as well, but under shop lights, you can see some of the small touchups and small dings that are in the body, mostly on the driver’s side down lower. But overall, out in the sunlight, no one would say a word, it looks great. It is wearing all of its original glass and the original weather stripping and felts. It is truly amazing. If you know buses, this stuff does not last as long as it has on this vehicle, unless it is low mileage and garaged. The front and rear bumper have been chromed. They were originally white, but my friend wanted them to look really nice, so had them chromed. The interior is amazing and is not restored, this is the way it is. Perfect panels, perfect headliner, original rubber floor mats, amazing floors. The only item that has been replaced inside is the center seat upholstery. It was out of the bus, and something ripped the seat, so the cover had to be replaced. Overall, the interior is just flat out amazing. The original owner had already replaced the radio, so my friend Dave had the radio upgraded, and it sounds great. The engine is original, you can look at the original stampings and tags on it in the photos. It is totally amazing. It runs very good and has never been out of the bus. It does not blow smoke or burn any oil. It does have a few typical oil leaks, which you often see on these, especially on something so original. I was pretty amazed at how much power this bus has, especially with an AT transmission. The brakes all work well. This is one of the nicest riding buses I have ever been in. Not a rattle, not a squeak, it just glides down the road. The steering box has a leak, and probably will need to be resealed down the road, but it steers flawlessly. Everything works on this bus, including all of the lights and the heater. As you can see, it has been slightly lowered. It has been lowered in the front with drop spindles, and the rearend has been lowered by adjusting the rear torsion arms 5 degrees. Another alteration is that the exhaust has been upgraded. The very small upgrades to this bus can be reversed very easily. This will be the only bus like this at any show. Once people realize that it is original, it will draw a crowd!!! I have been selling classic cars here on eBay since 2003, 12 years now, with around 500 classic cars sold over the internet, and 100% Feedback. What I love about these old cars is that I get to own some of my favorite cars one at a time. I have turned this passion into a business, but for me it is an awesome time to enjoy the cars themselves. It has been such a joy to do business with people all over the world. I have sold multiple cars to many buyers all over from Europe, Dubai, Australia, Japan, Brazil, just to name a few. It has always been a pleasure, getting to know other car enthusiasts all over the world, especially some that have become very good friends of mine because of our love for cars. I look forward to doing business here on eBay for many years to come, and look forward to meeting some other classic car nuts like myself. If you would like to call me and talk about the car, that would be great. I would love to help you out. If you want to call and talk about cars, it would be my pleasure, I am always on the hunt for any interesting classics, please give me a call, 503-910-2085 - Jason. Pretty Simple, you pay, and you get the title and the vehicle. I just love this bus, perfect stance, it doesn't get any better then this. This bus is not restored, it is a survivor, with a few nice upgrades. The interior is 100% original, floor mats, headliner, all original. The only thing changed is the upholstery on the middle seat. Front seats, and rear seat, all original. Fantastic Original Engine compartment. Won best of show, at the Portland Roadster Show, for most original engine. HOT VW's did a feature on it in 2010, at this time it had 20,655 miles on the odometer. If you notice in the pictures, the bumpers are chrome, these are the original bumpers, but my friend wanted them chrome, he likes things really nice, and this bus deserved a little bling. After market wheels and tires, front was lowered slightly with drop spindles, and rear torsion bar adjusted 5%. Everything can be reversed if you want it back to original. I do have the original wheels and hubcaps. This bus rides so nice, you will be impressed. Rack does come with the bus, the surfboard in other pictures is not included. New exhaust was installed, has a nice sound. Removable step This is Dave and Kay, they love this bus, but it is time to move on, they have been thinning down the herd of classic cars, and this is the last one to go. They are retired and want to do some other things in their future, great people, they hope it goes to a nice home that can enjoy it just as much as they and their family have. Brand new, it was $6846.50 This is were it has lived for the last 7 years. Original Owners Manuals Receipt from Eyerly Volkswagon in 1977, to the original owner. Original Salesman at Eyerly VW. Original License Oregon License Plate, and Eyerly Plate Frame. Has Oregon Special Interest plates on it now. All the VIN numbers are in place, notice no tape lines, this Bus has Original Paint. Original Engine, wait til you see more pictures of the engine. Here is the feature on this Bay Window, this is Dave and Kays Daughter and grand daughter, they showed this bus just as much as Dave and Kay!!! I was out in a little spin, here you see it has 21,713 next picture shows 21,715. I pulled over to pick up my sign, and people were slowing down staring at the bus, it is something you don't see everyday. The dash area is perfect, no cracks, very little wear. Front seats are original, very little wear. All the door panels and inner panels are original Headliner Perfect!!! This is were it gets interesting, under the dash, under the mats, are perfect, no rust, original!!! I should have cleaned that little dirt spot off, sorry : ) When was the last time you seen floors like that. Original insulation, when was the last time you saw the plastic on it still and sticker. Down the sides of this bus are nice, but there are typical waves down the side, that is the way they came from the factory not perfect. Amazing engine compartment, original, take a look at the stickers, and the original white stampings. You know you are dealing with low miles when you start seeing things like this. Original Transmission tag on dipstick. This is usually all broken up and soggy, amazing condition. Absolutely no rust, original underneath, has the factory undercoating on it. It does have some blemishes on it, take a look at the photos, there are some small dings, and small touch ups, on this original VW. Out in the sunlight harder to see, in the shade you notice a few more things. You have to remember while looking at this photo, you are not looking at a restored bus, you are looking at a Very NICE Survivor with mostly original paint. So there are some small touchups and dings etc. You can see a small scratch from a bad wiper, it is the original windshield though. It might be able to be polished out, it is a small wear mark. This is a pretty close up, 2 small divits, that have been filled. These next photos start looking at the rubber, and chrome. Look at the felts, original and in amazing condition. Check out the window felts!!! Roof gutters are really nice!!!! One small ding on roof, paintless dent removable guy might be able to get it. ****Blue Oval Ranch, What's DENWERKS, many people know me as Blue Oval Ranch since 2003. It is a completely original unrestored car, with excellent patina that can only be exhibited by a car that has been well cared for its entire life. A "Doctor's Coupe" this car sports a unique dickey or rumble seat and some really interesting features such as the gyroscopic ash tray. The car runs well and has just been recomissioned with fluid changes and other minor maintenance items. A CCCA Full Classic, this rare car will be equally at home on the show field in the preservation class or is a great car for spirited touring enjoyment. Its hard to find cars from this era that have been so lovingly preserved. This is a special car. We have many more photographs of this car, please click on any image to be taken to our full-size image list! The first car from what eventually became AC was presented at the Crystal Palace motor show in 1903; it was a 20 HP touring car and was displayed under the Weller name. The Weller Brothers of West Norwood, London, planned to produce an advanced 20 hp car. However, their financial backer and business manager John Portwine, a butcher, thought the car would be too expensive to produce and encouraged Weller to design and produce a little delivery three-wheeler. Weller did so, called it the Auto-Carrier, and a new company was founded and named Autocars and Accessories; production started in 1904. The vehicle caught on quickly and was a financial success. In 1907, a passenger version appeared, called the A.C. Sociable. It had a seat in place of the cargo box. The A.C. Sociable was described in a review of the 1912 Motor Cycle and Cycle Car Show as one of the most popular cycle cars on the road, both for pleasure and business, and A.C. displayed eight vehicles on their stand, six for pleasure and 2 for business. The single rear wheel contained a two-speed hub, and the single cylinder engine was mounted just in front of it, with rear chain drive. The company became Auto Carriers Ltd. in 1911 and moved to Ferry Works, Thames Ditton, Surrey—at this time they also began using the famed "AC" roundel logo. Their first four-wheeled car was produced in 1913; it was a sporty little two-seater with a gearbox on the rear axle. Only a few were built before production was interrupted by the first World War. During the Great War, the Ferry Works factory produced shells and fuses for the war effort, although at least one vehicle was designed and built for the War Office. At the end of the First World War, AC Cars started making motor vehicles again, designing and building many successful cars at Ferry Works, as well as expanding into an old balloon factory on Thames Ditton High Street. After the war, John Weller started on the design of a new overhead-cam 6-cylinder engine. The first versions of this design were running by 1919. The Weller engine would be produced until 1963; it is possibly the second-longest-lived production motor in history after the Volkswagen boxer. In 1921, Selwyn Edge (who had been with Napier & Son) bought shares in the company and was appointed governing director. He did not get along with Weller or Portwine, who resigned less than a year later. In 1922, the name changed again to AC Cars Ltd. In customary fashion Edge sought publicity for the company through motoring competition. In 1921 Sammy Davis joined A.C. as a driver, competing in the Junior Car Club 200-mile race, for cars up to 1,500 c.c., at Brooklands. In 1923 and 1924 J.A. Joyce won the Brighton Speed Trials driving an A.C. In May 1924, at Montlhéry, near Paris, T. G. Gillett broke the continuous 24-hour record in a 2-litre A.C., fitted with special streamlined bodywork, covering a distance of 1,949.3 miles. In 1926 the Honourable Victor Bruce, an AC employee, won the Monte Carlo Rally in his 2-litre AC. In 1927, Victor Bruce, with his wife Mildred (The Hon Mrs Victor Bruce), assisted by J.A. Joyce, set a 10-day endurance record at Montlhéry, driving an AC Six. Selwyn Edge bought the company outright for £135,000 in 1927 and re-registered it as AC (Acedes) Ltd but sales, which had been falling, continued to decline. The company was caught by the crash of 1929 and went into voluntary liquidation. Production ceased for a time, and the company was sold to the Hurlock family who ran a successful haulage business. They wanted the High Street factory only as a warehouse (Ferry Works was not acquired), but allowed the service side of AC to continue. A single car was made for William Hurlock in 1930. He liked it and agreed to restart very limited production, mainly using components left over from previous models. An agreement was reached with Standard to supply new chassis, the ancient three-speed transaxle was replaced by a modern four-speed gearbox (built in unit with the engine), and by 1932 a new range of cars was finally launched. Production continued on this small scale, averaging less than 100 vehicles per year, until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. The final pre-war car was delivered in June 1940, after which the factory was fully involved with war production. Our Ebay Policies: Significant Cars is one of the largest Collector Car Brokers and Dealers in the Country. Since 2003 we have worked hard to "change the way collector cars find new homes" by providing unparralleled web presentation of the cars we are representing. Most of our cars have over 30 photographs, and these can be viewed by visiting our website (our eBay handle dot com), or by clicking on any of the photographs in the black background area of our EBay listings. We welcome your call with any questions about any of our listings at anytime at 800-837-9902 and certainly encourage your personal inspection of any of the cars we are selling-just call us and we will be happy to set up an appointment for your to see and test drive the car. We realize that eBay is a difficult venue to properly evaluate an item as complex as an automobile. You can feel secure bidding with confidence on any of our cars since we guarantee your satisfaction! Total production was 3,878 vehicles. The Amphicar is the only civilian amphibious passenger automobile ever to be mass produced. 3,046 Amphicars were imported into the United States between 1961 and 1967. The Amphicar is rear engined and uses a 4 cylinder British-built Triumph Herald motor producing 43hp. All Amphicars are convertibles, and the civilian models were originally offered in only 4 colors, Beach White, Regatta Red, Lagoon Blue and Fjord Green (Aqua). The backbone of the Amphicar's electrics is basically a Lucas 12 volt positive ground system with certain items such as the horn, lighting and switches made by other manufacturers such as Hella and Bosch. The Amphicar has a top speed of 7mph on water and 70mph on land. Hence, it was dubbed the "Model 770". The Amphicar is moved in the water by its twin nylon propellers. A special two-part land-and-water transmission built by Hermes (makers of the Porsche transmission) allows the wheels and propellers to be operated either independently or simultaneously. The "land transmission" is a 4-speed-plus-reverse unit similar to those found in the old Volkswagen Beetles. The "water transmission" is a 2-speed offering unique to the Amphicar featuring single forward and reverse gears. In the water, the front wheels act as rudders. And this from the Web Site "The Wonderful World of the Amphicar" FAQs:AMPHICAR BACKGROUNDERAmphicar was manufactured in Germany (Berlin and Lubeck) from 1961 to 1967. Just under 4000 were produced, most went to USA (at least 3700), There are maybe 500 still in regular use, with are 7 in the UK and about 80 in the rest of Europe.Even now, Amphicar is the only non-military Amphibious vehicle ever put into production on a commercial basis (ie more than 100 produced). The many rules and regulations for road and water going vehicles make it very unlikely that another car based amphibian will ever be produced.Amphicar is capable of over 70mph on road, 8 knots on water. It is comfortable enough to drive 500 miles a day, road behaviour is similar to a good 1960s European saloon car or a 1980s American car.Amphicar cost $5m to design in the late 1950's. It is totally watertight. The engine is in the rear, it is the same as used in the Triumph Herald, 1147cc, 43HP, transmission drives rear wheels through unique land/water gearbox.Amphicar has connections with other manufacturers, many Amphicar employees came from Borgward and there are many parts in common between the cars. Much of the braking system and suspension is Mercedes. The transmission internals are Porsche 356 as are some parts of the fuel system. In 1967 the Amphicar corporation was owned by the Quandt group, who also owned and still own a controlling share of, BMW.Amphicar failed because it was too expensive when new, however it is capable of some serious sea crossings, ie Africa to Spain, San Diego to Catalina Island and England to France (3 times, once in a force 6 gale).Amphicar is made of steel so was prone to rust, however modern paint and waxes can stop rust being a problem. It does need more maintenance than other cars but maintenance schedules are no worse than some 4x4 vehicles.Amphicar has the highest rear fins of any production car, about 1 inch higher than a '59 Cadillac.Amphicar is great in snow, better than many 4x4s. With 10 inches of ground clearance, a totally flat bottom and narrow rear wheels Amphicar has tremendous traction and ability,A car that looks like the Amphicar from the rear is the Jaguar XK220, Below bumper level the shape is almost identical - a large bulge around the engine and everything very flat for ground effect/hydrodynamics. The Jaguar does not have the advantage of propellers which makes it much slower in the water !Amphicar featured in US movie "Pontiac Moon".Amphicar spare parts still available in the US, contact Hugh Gordon, 14330 Iseli Road, Santa Fe Springs, California 90670. telephone 714 523 3512 fax 562 404 1904Many people have tried to build a better Amphibian than the Amphicar, there are as many as 2 or 3 a year, to date nobody has managed to improve on the original package. You just may need this well-kept model in your collection, or you might need to take your friends on a little spin in the lake. Motor Car Details Make 1 Morris Minor Mileage 7812 Model Traveler Exterior Color White Body 2 Door Wagon Interior Color Red Year 1960 Transmission 4 Speed Manual Engine 4 Cylinder 1000 Title Status Clear DESCRIPTION AND OTHER INFORMATION 1960 Morris Minor Traveller 2 Door "Woody" Estate Wagon For over 61 years I have been selling Rolls Royces and Bentleys, both new and preowned, and other great collectible motorcars. I still get excited when I come across a rare classic like this 1960 Morris 1000 Traveler. The Morris Minor was to England what the Volkswagen was the Germany. Its concept was to have a good motorcar that was affordable to everyone, which made the Minor the first British motorcar to sell over one million units and was exported globally. Very few left hand drive were built specifically for the USA market, over a 20 year period there were approx. 56,640 exported and only a limited amount are still on the road today. I bought this motorcar from a collector friend of mine who was the second owner and fully restored it a number of years ago. It is finished in a porcelain white non metallic with flawless varnished ash wood framing on the exterior and interior. The scarlet interior is like new as is the carpeting. It is fitted with the 948cc (57.9 cu in) A-series-I4 engine with a four speed manual transmission, which is a low maintenance gas saver. Can you imagine arriving to the country club with your golf clubs in the rear of this classic “Woody”. This moving work of art is for the true connoisseur who is looking to start a collection or add a rare find to their current collection. $ 26,900.00 For any Further Questions, Please Call 314-352-9100 Door to Door Nationwide and Worldwide Shipping Arrangements Available PICTURE 1PICTURE 2PICTURE 3PICTURE 4PICTURE 5PICTURE 6PICTURE 7PICTURE 8PICTURE 9PICTURE 10PICTURE 11PICTURE 12PICTURE 13PICTURE 14PICTURE 15PICTURE 16PICTURE 17PICTURE 18PICTURE 19PICTURE 20PICTURE 21PICTURE 22PICTURE 23PICTURE 24PICTURE 25PICTURE 26PICTURE 27PICTURE 28PICTURE 29PICTURE 30PICTURE 31PICTURE 32PICTURE 33PICTURE 34PICTURE 35PICTURE 36PICTURE 37PICTURE 38PICTURE 39PICTURE 40PICTURE 41PICTURE 42PICTURE 43PICTURE 44PICTURE 45 Terms of Payment Acceptable Forms of Payment: Certified check, cashiers check, or bank/wire transfer. Attaches to front beam. This buggy was originally built in the late 60's. It is an original "Manx style" Spoiler body, offered by Desert Fox and Sandwinder. I bought it in 2008. It was such a cool little buggy but needed some updating. I decided to tear it down and rebuild it as a street driven show car with a strong nod to wild 60's dune buggies and show rods. I wanted to try to use as much of the original build as possible, keeping the "survivor" feel and character that it had. I did not replace the pan, but did clean it up and paint it. The drive components, trans, and suspension have been gone through to make sure it is a turnkey runner, starts up every time, and is safe on the streets. The entire car was rewired with a new harness, fittings, fusebox. The body was the focus of the build, with a full metal flake finish(over a pound of flake) with candy teal panel work and custom hand lettering and pinstriping to top it all off. I removed the seats and body for a complete pearl white diamond tuck makeover, replacing the pan/body gasket with a brand new one upon reassembly. Also installed brand new windshield frame, glass, and rubber. For more details on the entire build you can go to my build thread on the Samba. Lot of progress pics and many details there. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=477020 The Boulevard Buggy is an award winner and international magazine feature car, built for street and show. Won many “Best Paint” awards. Also won "1st In Class" and “Promoter’s Choice” awards at Bugorama in Fontana. It's been featured in various publications including full editorials in Ultra VW Magazine, VW Speed, Gasoline Magazine, Kustom World. And possibly the coolest feature in the renowned "Dune Buggy Handbook". This little Boulevard Buggy has garnered a lot of attention. If you’re looking for a turnkey, one of a kind custom car that’s a blast to drive and turns heads wherever it goes…this is the one for you! All the hard work has been done on this buggy. It’s in great condition and runs great. Minor improvements would make this the perfect car. If I were to keep it, I'd maybe upgrade to a new dual master cylinder and upgrade the pedal assembly to one of those fancy rollers. :) The dash is purposefully minimal, but can be easily upgraded with more bells and whistles. Original bug speedo needle doesn't work, but the battery/ignition lights in the gauge are wired and work fine. The one thing that needs to be replaced is the e-brake handle. I never got around to doing it, but its never been a major issue for me. These are little details that do not affect the drivability or fun factor of this car and would be easy for a new owner. This has been the coolest car to build, own, and drive. Definitely one of a kind. I have more invested than the asking price. But all reasonable offers will be considered. The car is located in the Antelope Valley(Northern Los Angeles County). I'm willing to work with the buyer to ship anywhere, at buyer's expense of course. If you live in Southern California or Phoenix, AZ we can easily arrange personal delivery for a reasonable fee. There is an immediate deposit of $500 via Paypal required. The balance is to be paid within 7 days. Accepted methods of payments for the balance are cash or a cashier's check from a United States bank. Due to high paypal fees, the final payment balance (minus deposit) can not be made through Paypal. Please send an eBay message upon completion of eBay transaction. This listing is for the commissioned build of chassis #004 of the Frankfurt Flyer. The Frankfurt Flyer started as a dream of hammering out my own aluminum bodied sports racer similar to the post war speed enthusiasts of Germany. In 2012 I completed my first car and since have built 3 more of this design for fellow speed enthusiasts. Please understand this listing is for an unbuilt car because nearly every detail is bespoke to your personal taste, literally hand built. The delivery time takes 10 months from initiation. History: THE EARLY DAYS Shortly after WWII in war-torn Germany, a small group of speed enthusiasts emerged from tool rooms and barns sporting lightweight aluminum bodied race cars across the German countryside. These cars were purpose built with one goal in mind, speed. The cars shared common underpinnings most often in the form of scrap Volkswagen and aircraft pieces from the left over military vehicles. Early day "Privateers" such as Petermax Muller and Huscke von Hanstein traded scarce food supplies with Wolfsburg engineers for modified Porsche and VW parts to build the Petermax Muller Special. The Muller Special was built on a Kubelwagen chassis with Schwimmwagen front suspension and highly modified Vogelsang heads. The car went on to win and set records in the first Postwar days of racing. Other "Eigenbau" (translated Home-built) Aluminum bodied specials included Kurt Kuhnke's VW beetle based racer and the sleek Rometsch Porsche. One racing special made a name for itself, that was Walter Glockler's VW "Eigenbau." After the war, Glockler had opened his Frankfurt VW Dealership and had a long standing interest in motorsport. He appointed the ingenious race engineer Hermann Ramelow to build his chassis and coachbuilder C.H. Weidenhausen to wrap the car in its beautiful aluminum skin. The car began wearing a VW badge but in a short time, Porsche had approached Glockler pressuring him to put the Porsche name on his car in exchange for Porsche parts. The deal was done and the Glockler Porsche was born. Glockler went on to build several variations of his Porsche Specials, all bodied by C.H. Weidenhausen, eventually the car would give birth to the Porsche 550 Spyder. The Frankfurt Flyer Shown in the following photos is #FF003, the third of the "Frankfurt Flyer" series. I teamed up with longtime VW/Porsche builder Chuck Beck who developed the steel Tubular frame chassis and VW based fully adjustable suspension. The engine was built by Landspeed record holder and Porsche/VW engine expert Tom Bruch for this car. The case comes from a 1958 VW 36HP engine. Tom took a counterweighted Porsche 912 Crankshaft and modified it to fit the VW main bearings, increasing the stroke from 64MM to 74MM. Tom also installed an ISKY 2J camshaft. This is the very cam that was given to him from Ed Iskenderian in 1966 and which he later set a landspeed record with in 1967. Tom used Wolfsburg West Dual port heads and dual carbs to obtain healthy airflow for a total output of 85HP. The car weighs in at 1,250LBS. Single Cockpit with lightweight aluminum tonneau and wrap around windscreen. With Tonneau Removed, the car is a 2 seater with "Double Bubble" windscreen. Under the hand shaped aluminum skin is a "Superleggera" type tubular buck. I form all tubing by hand as a guide for the final panel work. Fabricating the Gauge bezel Skinning out interior and outer panels, A wonderful little machine starts to take shape. And finally a functional and sensational driving lightweight sports car. 1928 CHEVY BOAT TAIL SPEEDSTERALL STEEL BODY Happy Holidays everyone and thank you for viewing my listing. I am offering for sale a custom 1928 Chevrolet Boat Tail Speedster (the car is titled as a 1928 Chevrolet Sedan). This very attractive automobile was conceived and constructed on an original 1928 Chevrolet frame and 4 cylinder motor by a very experienced builder of Speedsters in the Pacific Northwest having designed and built many in the last 30 years. I purchased the car for my wife who expressed an interest in having something very unusual and sexy perhaps a convertible or preferably an open-cowled Roadster or Speedster. The pictures represent the Speedster as refined and elegant, but she is anything but. This the oldest automobile that I have ever purchased and driven and she doesn't drive like our 2001 Cadillac Sedan. While my wife salivated over the way the car looks and the attention it garners, this 1928 Speedster is very loud and raw, the car does not have power steering and she had a difficult time turning the steering wheel when the car is sitting still or parking at very low speed, the "Beast" also does not have power brakes. I personally do not have any trouble turning the steering wheel or braking, but if you are a petite 95 pound lady with long fingernails, this may not be the car for you. While driving the car at about 15-20 miles per hour, there was a serious vibration on the front end after hitting a pothole and only ceases when you slow down or turn the steering wheel a bit, but at 45 mils per hour the Speedster seems to handle perfectly. Here in Key West, Florida the top speed limit is 35 mph so I haven't had the opportunity to drive the car faster than 45 mph. The engine has been professionally rebuilt and runs fine, however in the morning the car requires a few seconds to fire up. Basically, I bit off more than I can chew with this fabulous "Beast", I know absolutely nothing about fixing or maintaining old cars (this car is 86 years old!) I don't even change car batteries, I just enjoy buying and driving beautiful and unusual cars. I do not recommend this, or any nearly 90 year old automobile to anyone who does not understand and work on cars. This beautiful 1928 Chevrolet Speedster is for the purist, not a casual driver like myself. I have owned several Bugatti Replica's with the Volkswagen drive train and I prefer that, a car that was manufactured in the late 1960's but looks very old. I hope that I haven't scared everyone away but the objective and bottom line here is that this car is a rare and fantastic automotive investment opportunity, and the previous owner spent a great deal of money and time bringing this machine functionally into the 21st century, and that was certainly reflected in the price that I paid for this car. I don't mean to sound trite here but as the old adage goes, my loss is surely going to be someone's gain. Please email with any questions and offers. Happy Holidays.
