1980 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special (Canadian) 3J7 This is the last year this bike was offered in Canada. The difference from the US model that I am aware of is that this one has a CDI unit as opposed to a point system. It is in very good condition considering it's age, it is my daily driver. Recent maintenance includes: - New wheel bearings front/rear- New fork stem bearings (roller bearings)- New battery- Replaced the seat cover - Replaced all fluids

Found in shed, with all parts and title, also have full factory manual that was with it. Had it rebored through Economy Cycle in Winthrop Harbor Ill. with big bore wisco pistons, and Uni air filters. It had Toomey racing pipes on it when found. Missing front fender and it has clubman bars other than that it is all original motor and frame match. This machine is very fast for its size, it would do well on any race track or a nice winding road, it's very fun to ride.

I have reluctantly decided to sell my 79 Yamaha Rd 400 with MZB electronic ignition/charging system. Its time for someone else to enjoy it. I just got done completely disassembling the engine to replace crank seals, inspected all internal parts. The gears show no wear. I put the crankshaft on the truing stand and it was still within factory tolerances, the rods were also within spec. Ultrasonic cleaned every single part while disassembled. Top end still showed 120 psi of compression on each cylinder so I did not bore out the cylinder. (no need yet) This bike features an MZB street ignition/charging system kit. Its a modern electronic ignition and a modern charging system you find on new motorcycles. I also installed it with the HD hardware kit. I have around $700 just into the MZB kit alone. -has a 77 400 engine (with the strong crankshaft) with 7k original miles on it. -I bought a set of RD350 mikuni round slide carbs, ultrasonic cleaned and rebuilt carbs with ALL BRAND NEW PARTS. Literally every piece was replaced with brand new Mikuni parts. ( have over 300 dollars just into the new parts not including the carbs themselves) Jets/floats/float arms/idle screws/mixture screws....even the slides are brand new. -Brand new throttle/oil injection cable. -oil pump was rebuilt also has brand new oil lines. -new Barnett's clutch springs (the clutch frictions discs had very little wear) -new hp O-ring chain (marshal racing) -very nice original 2VO stock mufflers (I removed/cleaned/repacked the baffles) -Brand new high quality OEM crank seals -every single gasket and seal in the engine was replaced. (Athena gasket kit, new oem seals) -I only use Yamaha two stroke injection oil in the tank and Belray 80 in the trans. -Still has original tool box and the hard to find tool kit this bike came with. - Stock air box with snorkel removed and open uni filter installed (flows very well) -The bike retains its original paint (not perfect but I prefer original paint over a nice repaint) -brake pads were like new so I just ultrasonic cleaned them. All the electrical works (headlight, blinkers, taillight dash lights ect....) except for the low oil dummy light. may just be a burned out bulb. These RDs were known for being good handling bikes for the time, this one is no exception. The only thing to keep an eye on is the fork seals, they are not brand new and in the future will require replacement but I have been riding as is and have not noticed any leaking. The petcock leaks if you forget to turn the petcock to the "off" position after your done riding but as long as you remember to turn it off after riding it works great. Keep in mind it is a 35 year old motorcycle. There might be a flaw here and there but those are the only things I notice. vintage superbikes just climb in value, they are a good investment and a blast to ride. Not to mention the Daytona special was the last year of RD production (in the US) and is the most sought after 400. The bike has never been wrecked but it does have a rebuilt title. Back in the early 80's the original engine blew up and the owner had found a 77 rd engine for it. Swapped out engines and got the rebuild title to accommodate the non numbers matching engine. It is titled in my name now. Please ask questions before buying, payment due asap, I will accept a check but the check has to clear before the bike leaves my possession. I will do whatever I need to make sure the check is good, sorry but I have been burned on checks before and will not tolerate any scammers out there. I will be happy to assist in any way I can for helping the buyer get the bike shipped to them but shipping is their financial responsibility. I would be willing to sell overseas but it is up to you to set up and of course pay for shipping I put a lot of time and labor into this motorcycle. I will update the listing if I forgot to add anything. Thanks

Professionally installed upgrades already done. I have little room for 3 bikes - sadly this one is the one I chose to go. matching serial #'s and always well kept up.. garaged 24/7 and tuned up every year regardless of the few miles I put on it. Back in 1980 I bought a 1979 Daytona Special, and for many, many years I rode it everywhere and loved it. My stock 1979 Daytona Special was awesome looking. When I first decided to buy another RD400 years ago, I initially wanted to find another Daytona Special to rekindle my love of the two stroke street bike that I remembered as a younger man. But I first came across this 1978 RD 400 I and took a test ride. I was hooked immediately. This 78 RD400 was a lot quicker than my stock Daytona and handled a lot better. There was really no comparison. I never looked back at missing out on owning another Daytona. This 1978 RD400 is a very tight ride and has a huge amount of raw neck snapping power which was exactly like I wanted, and what I EXPECTED. The expansion chambers make this bike sound incredible and unmistakable. What you get:: A very very clean fast ride on a classic Yamaha RD 400 Expect to get tons of thumbs up from old timers who know the bike, and especially from newbies that don't know what a two stroke road bike is. Everywhere you go. Price of $5000 includes shipping anywhere in the continental USA ( not Hawaii or Alaska ) and crating will be done by professional who restores Lambretta and Vespa scooters and ships them all over the world so buy with confidence that it will arrive perfectly inside a motorcycle crate. This is a very safe purchase, there is a huge amount of added value already built into this bike. Doubtful you will need or want to add anything more to it. I will consider offers below $5000 but don't expect free shipping anywhere in the USA if you ask, and don't bother to low ball me an offer. This is a serious well kept up motorcycle with a ton of life in it. I'm not forced to sell this bike but I do want to make the room in my garage. You won't be disappointed nor will you lose money on this RD400. These classic bikes hold their value.
