This rare chain drive 1984 FXRT sport glide is in pretty good condition and has most of its original parts. Motor frame and trans all match.Clean titleNew tiresThe last owner had this FXRT as a second bike and never rode it. He had the bike gone through / serviced with new tires and only put 500 miles on the bike before deciding to he did not need two bikes. The fiberglass bags are in good condition was just a few minor scratches. I don't see any dents on the gas tank or any major scratches or nicks. The fairing has two small cracks , one by the fairing mount by the speaker, and another above the radio . The gauge pod on the right is loose and will need attention, looks like the last owner was bumping it with the handlebars. I put new Polly bushings on the risers and the bars don't bump into it anymore.I'd say The bike is in pretty good condition for being 30 years oId.I noticed the stock exhaust pipes were hollowed out and painted black . Sounds great No keys for the bags but they can be made , the locks / latches are good. This is a chain drive evo with a oil bath and it does not leak .The motor does not leak oil. I purchased this bike two years ago after looking for an original fxrT for over a year and a half. The most local REAL Touring model I found was in New Jersey. I am in Massachusetts. I bought the bike from a 73 year old guy that told me he had bought it from a Harley dealer in 1985. I understand that it has a few thousand miles on it at that time. The previous owner was very particular and definitely the kind of guy that I like to buy bikes from. We spent hours talking on the phone before I drove down there.1984Original RedEVO 1340 motor5 SpeedEnclosed chain driveOriginal Air suspensionI bought it with approx 48k on it and have put on about 6k since.I was told something about lead additives of the time. He had a concern that whomever rode the bike before COULD have used them and was convinced that putting stainless steel valves in the bike was a good idea. He had the dealer do that shortly after he got it. It doesn't look like this motor was every touched, but after 30 years it would be tough to tell what happened in 1885.The motor has not been touched since. The bike is all stock (even exhausts) other than the stainless valves, a little newer CV carb (done by previous owner a long time ago) and a newer front brake caliper upgrade.Bike runs GREATI put new Metzeler ME880 tires on it about 3000 miles ago.I have changed the oils including the enclosed chain drive oil.Has guage pods and tape deck am/fm. The radio doesn't come in as I don't have an antenna on the bike. It would otherwise.I have an original owners manual and I believe a full service manual. The only spots where I have every seen a leak was out of the enclosed chain drive when it got cold last winter, and I have seen the line going to the oil pressure sending unit connection weep. That would be a very easy fix as its a compression fitting to a small plastic hose.I just put a genuine Harley Davidson battery in it this summer. I had left the key on and killed the other.I have had no issues with this bike other than not being able to make more time to ride it. I have been putting together a parts lot that I intended to use to do some upgrades/updates to the bike…I planned to make it a little sportier while keeping somewhat original looks. If you want to keep the bike stock, you could sell these parts for considerable money as FXRT and FXRD items have been pulling a premium if/when you an find them. The following parts will go with the bike.I haad purchased a pair of NEW OLD STOCK Harley Lower Fairings for this bike… Yes, I was surprised to even find them. I ran them in the cooler months. They are still the original black that they came in. They didn't look too bad with the red so I kept them that way.I have a FXRD Grand Touring fairing in blue. Its in nice shape and has a different layout for stereo and speakers. This would be easy to sell as I have been hounded for it before.I have the original trunk. The previous owner said the hinges had issues and he removed it.I have a spare left and right clamshell saddlebag. Not original to this bike and non matching color. I believe they have the chrome guards on them.I purchased a 39mm fork of the appropriate FXRT length that has mounts to run double discs. This is a normal oil fork and would eliminate the air suspension that is on there now. This sucker was hard to fid at the right length. I believe its a inch longer than a traditional FXR.I have newer 4 piston calipers and adapter brackets to mount good double disc brakes on the newer front end. Oe is currently mounted on the bike's original front end.The original front brake caliper.Spare guage pods that are in good shape. These would be nice to replace the ones on there that have some cracking.I have an 18 inch matching 9 spoke mag rear wheel.Highway pegsI have been meaning to post the bike for a while here and will add more details as I think of them and will do better with pictures of all this stuff.

This is a 1984 FXRT Shovel Head on a Rigid Frame and has a true 5 speed from a later model bike. This bike starts up and runs great and is a real head turner. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this bike. I really hate letting it go but I just traded in my Ultra for a 2015 Street Glide and find myself not giving the FXRT the riding time it deserves.

Rare 1984 Harley-Davidson FXRT For sale is a nice 1984 FXRT Sport Glide that I just purchased off the original owner. I had no intentions of selling it, until a friend offered me an original paint 1947 Knucklehead, so this sadly has to go. It comes with a stack of receipts. He purchased this bike brand new from the dealership I work for and its been dealer maintained from day one. I don't know if I have every receipt, but quite a large stack. The bike runs phenomenal. It has a rebuilt S&S Super E, Screamin' Eagle Cam, When the cam was changed lifters were done also. It has a modern OEM Harley headlight with a $75 H4 Super high output bulb, chain and sprocket have been changed recently. Full service done with new plugs, new primary gaskets, transmission, primary and engine fluid with filter. New Harley AGM Battery. The tires have some dry spots and should be replaced. Brake fluid has been flushed front and rear. New primary chain and shoe. New Alternator and Stator Clutch had been adjusted. Rebuilt 35mm forks and Rebuilt Anti-Dive Air Ride forks. Harley Accessory Pillow Seats, Progressive rear shocks, Progressive springs in the forks. New Wheel Bearings front and rear. Brand new K&N Air Filter. The list goes on. The bike is in good shape for the age, but shows some signs of age. Has some cosmetic imperfections, but it has 75k miles. Its not perfect, but a nice example of a true King of the Hill. It uses some oil, like any old bike. Please ask if you have any questions. If you aren't sure about anything please come view the bike in person. Shipping roughly 500-900 coast to coast, but it will need to be calculated. I can arrange shipping if needed. Item is located in West Chester, PA 19382. Please read all descriptions thoroughly and ask all and any questions prior to bidding. Parts are used unless noted and wear should be expected with age. Always have trained proffesionals install your parts, and always consult with an expert prior to bidding or purchase. I am not responsible for incorrect fitment. I do my best to describe all items honestly and to the best of my ability. This item may fit a variety of models, so please check with your local parts expert prior to bidding.PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS PRIOR TO BID

1982 Harley Davidson FXRS Superglide II Firtst year of the FXRS • 1982 Clean title registered as NON OP so no back fees owed80" SHOVELHEADFrame and motor # on titleI have not tried to even start this bike and I do not have the time right now so I am selling this cheapUsed as-is not running condition • I What you see is what you get! located in Bakersfield CA Call for questions (661) 472-2111 HISTORY OF 1982 SUPERGLIDE II In 1982 the ad copy said the new FXR Super Glide II was a Harley-Davidson that would "separate the men from the boys," the implication being that the boys were riding "foreign" motorcycles. The FXR promised to deliver handling to rival sporty bikes from overseas, and the potent performance of an American V-twin. Twenty-eight years later, there are still riders who claim the FXR was the best motorcycle Harley ever built. That notion would be hard to defend, given the advanced engine, chassis, and suspension technology Harley has introduced in just the last decade. But the FXR does represent a moment in Harley history when the company put its talent and energy into creating not just a great Harley-Davidson, but a great motorcycle; a bike less constrained by heritage and the status quo. Keep in mind that the FXR platform would debut in 1981 as an '82 model, just months after the company had completed its buyout from AMF. The FXR represented Harley's commitment to its future. "Around the company the FXR was considered an engineer's bike," recalls Bob LeRoy, who joined the company in 1979, worked as a designer on the FXR team and today is a Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) project manager at Harley. "It had a higher seat height and footpegs to give it more lean angle. And it produced much less vibration to the rider, so it felt more sophisticated. You could go out and have some fun on an FXR, not just cruise around." The FXR was designed around the same 80ci Shovelhead engine and five-speed transmission package that debuted in the all-new '80 FLT Tour Glide, the first modern Harley with a rubber-mounted powertrain. The plan was to turn the Tour Glide platform into a sporty roadster to sell against the Japanese bikes. The Harley engineering team-which included a young road-racer named Erik Buell-quickly determined that the Tour Glide frame was not suited to the mission and instead designed an all-new frame that would hold the powertrain in the same elastomer tri-mounts. The frame had a more triangulated shape than that of the FXE Super Glide, and the rear shocks were set further back on the swingarm. "Instead of heavy castings, the FXR frame had a lot of welded stamped-steel parts," said LeRoy. "This was before the era of robotic welding, so it all had to be assembled by hand. It was expensive and difficult to manufacture." Harley introduced the '82 FXR platform with two models-the FXR Super Glide II had laced wheels, while the FXRS was the same bike with cast wheels and two-tone paint. Both had a 3.8-gallon Fat Bob fuel tank with a console that incorporated the fuel cap and a fuel gauge. A thickly cushioned seat flipped up to reveal the oil tank and battery. The bike came equipped with triple disc brakes and sporty Dunlop tires. The FXR, a "sporty standard," was sold alongside the rigid-mount, four-speed FX "factory custom" models, including the Super Glide, Wide Glide, and Low Rider. Despite the effort to keep it light and nimble, the FXR was actually 2 inches longer and 3 pounds heavier than the FXE Super Glide. But the isolated powertrain and the extra gear, made the FXR feel much more refined. "I recall that the FXR felt more compact than other Big Twins; very similar to large Japanese bikes of the era," said one former FXR owner we know. "The ergonomics were excellent for a shorter rider like myself, and the size and weight seemed very manageable. When my wife wanted to move up from a Sportster, the FXR was really the only Big Twin option she'd consider." The former owner also recalled that the FXR was reputed to be the favored ride of a certain well-known outlaw motorcycle organization who appreciated the performance and handling when it was time to make a quick get-away. It's just another aspect of the FXR legend. Harley immediately began introducing other models on the FXR platform. First and perhaps most notable was the '83 FXRT Sport Glide, a "sport touring" bike equipped with a frame-mounted fairing and hard bags that were originally designed for the Nova, the liquid-cooled V-Four project that was abandoned for lack of funding after the AMF buyout. In fact, the deep scoops on the sides of the FXRT fairing were developed in a wind-tunnel to feed air to the Nova's underseat radiator, according to LeRoy. On the FXRT, they became vents to the rider. The FXRP police model, which also used the Nova-derived fairing, and the slammed FXRS Low Glide appeared in 1984. The FXRC Low Glide Custom appeared for 1985. The FXR platform made the transition to the V2 Evolution engine in 1984, then to beltdrive in 1985. In 1986 the FXR family replaced the original FX platform, as the FXR became the Super Glide. The new FXRD Sport Glide Deluxe came with a trunk. The FXLR Low Rider Custom (1987) had a 21-inch laced front wheel and an aluminum disc rear wheel. In 1988 the FXRS Low Rider was also offered as a Sport model (FXRS-SP) and in special 85th anniversary trim. A Low Rider Convertible was offered in 1990. If you've noticed that the FXR had strayed from its original, sport-standard mission, you are right on. "I think that sales for the original FXR slipped pretty quickly," said LeRoy, "So we kept the volume going by adding models. But by the late '80s the company realized that the FXR was not what the market wanted. Maybe it felt too much like the import competition. That's when we went to work on the Dyna." The mission of the Dyna Glide, according to LeRoy, was to be easier to manufacture than the FXR and to look more like the original FX Super Glide-lower to the ground, more rake to the fork, with the battery box exposed. The Dyna Glide was also the first Harley to be designed completely with Computer Aided Design (CAD). The '91 FXDB Sturgis launched the Dyna Glide platform, and by 1995, various FXD models replaced the last of the FXR variants. The FXR was gone, but not for long. Like an aging veteran brought off the bench, the FXR was back in the game in 1999 when Harley launched its CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) program with two models, the FXR2, with a 21-inch laced front wheel, and the FXR3, with a 19-inch cast front wheel. CVO was intended to produce exclusive, low-volume custom bikes, and only 900 examples of each of the 1999 models were built. For 2000, CVO assembled a 1,000-unit run of the FXR4, which marked the real end of FXR production. The old story that Harley launched CVO to use up a dusty pile of FXR frames it found in a corner is not true, according to LeRoy. The tooling was on hand, and the bikes could be built for a limited run without disrupting regular production. Since then the reputation of the FXR as "best Harley ever" has stuck, and in the minds of former owners, it's probably the truth.
