BSA Lightning Motorcycle Does not run, but does have compression. Engine complete. Comes as seen in picture as a complete bike. It is a great project bike for someone that has some restoration time. Trying to make room for new project - offered for second and last time time, if it does not sell this time I will put into storage. Come and inspect 32003 just south of Jacksonville Florida I got this a few years ago as part of a deal, it was originally a BSA Lightning which the previous owner had installed a replacement motor from a same year, (1970), BSA Thunderbird. He had installed the better twin carb head from the Lightning onto the motor and re-installed into the bike. He had removed the carbs and sent them off to be rebuilt with steel slides. The carbs arrived but the bike, stripped to a frame with two wheels and an engine sat at the back of his garage for the best part of 30 years. The majority of the remaining parts were stored in Ziploc bags in cardboard boxes. I thought it would be a cheap project, how wrong I was! I decided that the bike was not and never would be original and that I would go for something different. I finished disassembling the bike and sent the frame and all bolt on parts for sand blasting and powder coating, (Deep Red Metallic). The fenders, headlamp, tail-light bracket and instrument brackets were sand blasted and powder coated metallic silver. The forks were stripped and the tubes, seals, springs and internal parts were replaced. The external components on the forks were blasted and powder coated to match the frame. New rear shocks were purchased for installation. A new-old-stock gas tank came from England, (not an Indian repro), which was orange and I had powder coated a charcoal grey. The tank badges were powder coated the same red as the frame with the side panels powder coated to match the tank. I did not install the side panels but they will come with the bike along with an original left-side Firebird Scrambler half side panel, (needs coating to match if it is to be used). The engine was completely disassembled, inspected and re-assembled with new-old-stock piston/rings after the bores, (which showed very little wear), were honed. The wheels were re-built using new chrome rims and stainless steel spokes from England before being fitted with new tires and tubes. A new chrome high-level exhaust, "chicken wire" heat shield and a set of trail handlebars were delivered from England at the same time as the wheels. The speedometer and tachometer were rebuilt out on the West Coast by a reputable company. The bike was re-assembled with all parts either being new chrome parts or the original parts blasted/powder coated parts, (no rust anywhere). A new Firebird wiring harness was installed which does not support the Amp meter so that is for show only. An original and very rare 1960’s BSA trial seat sitting on the even rarer original brackets designed for the A65 were installed. The original seat and rear (powder coated) footrests are included. I had a BSA expert install the harness and complete the wiring and he installed a new gel battery, engine/transmission lubricants and gas in the tank. The bike took a few kicks but started and ran well. I drove it around the sub-division and parked it back in my garage next to my 79 Bonneville, (a year ago), and that is where it has stayed with 2 miles on the odometer until today when charged the battery and got the bike bike started. Over the year it had wet-sumped so I drained and replaced the oil, this is a common issue with these bikes, I have a new anti wet sump valve that I did not install that I will include with the bike. I noted that the carbs will need adjustment or maybe even replacement as the left side"tickler was weeping until the bike started then it was fine. I did not ride the bike today, I only started and ran it, see video by searching you-tube for:- BSA lightning firebird scrambler and choosing the video uploaded on Dec 4,2016. It only did two miles on the first and second startups after a complete rebuild and will almost certainly need some further adjustments to ensure it is running well and is roadworthy. Because of this, the bike is for sale as-is with no warranty is implied or offered. Things I wish I had done - Removed a dent from the fender before powder coating it, purchased a lightning wiring harness, not spent so much money, I did not think I would ever decide to sell this but it needs to go to make way for a new project so thanks for looking, let me know if you need any further information. 1968 BSA Lightning 650 A7 , 1968 BSA Lightning for sale. This is an excellent example of BSA's twin carb 650cc bike. It has less than 500 miles since a total restoration was performed. The engine was professionally rebuilt from top to bottom. It has new pistons, rings, rods, valves/guides, bearings. It has new Amal 930 carbs, new Dunlop Gold Seal tires and tubes on stainless steel rims and spokes with a quick disconnect rear wheel. It has a new electronic rectifier, new fork boots, and new rear shocks. The paint is new and is the original red color with lots of good chrome. Everything this bike needed to make it a beautiful, reliable machine, it got. It starts easy, shifts smooth, steers straight and true, and has that distinctive beautiful vertical twin sound. It's ready to ride or show...or just admire. It's a crowd pleaser that anyone in the market for a classic British bike would be proud to own. Owned by Poison’s Rikki Rockett 1964 BSA A65 Lightning Rocket Engine Number Number: A65D 5124 BSA followed their acquisition of Ariel with the purchase of Triumph in 1951. It was decided from the outset that BSA and Triumph would retain complete autonomy. Indeed, that policy endured for almost two decades, until BSA Triumph Group Ltd were in dire financial straits, by when a certain amount of Badge Engineering did then occur, albeit against great opposition from a loyal middle management. So, when it came to the vital introduction of unit construction motors BSA unfortunately lagged about three years behind. BSA's 650cc A65 still sold across the globe in tens of thousands; its rugged engine also evolved into the definitive mode of propulsion in the hyper competitive world of European sidecar racing. By 1965 this machine had become the Lightning which was a natural design progression aimed at the American market. This California black license plate, matching numbers icon of British café racer and rocker culture of the 1960s is most appropriately owned by the drummer of quintessential rock band Poison, Rikki Rockett. From Mechanicsburg, PA, this founding member of the band has been a huge fan of the Britbike scene that began in the cafes of the North Circular of London. He began Brit Iron Rebels, a vintage and modern retro motorcycle internet-based group dedicated to that Rocker motorcycle culture. Some years ago, the bike was subject to a complete restoration. Rockett’s enthusiasm to ride is reflected in just how the bike was built. It was completely dismantled and everything was rebuilt, refurbished or replaced as needed. The engine was fully rebuilt and the gearbox was gone through and then hung in the powder-coated frame. All cycle parts were rebuilt, including new Excel rims, polished, painted and laced with stainless spokes. The bike was upgraded to electronic ignition to aid reliability. Attention was given as needed to brakes and suspension. Up front, a Triumph T140 front end was installed with disc brake for the greatly improved braking of 1970s technology. Cosmetically, the bike is beautifully presented. Tank and side panels were repainted and remain in excellent condition. The rest of the bike is also nicely settled with the patina of a high quality restoration. The bike is in excellent riding condition. Fresh from service to ready the bike for sale, it starts easily, idles well and the engine is responsive and powerful. It shifts well through the gearbox with a good clutch. Brakes and suspension work well and all electrical systems operate as they should. And again Rockett’s enthusiasm for the bike is reflected in the mileage. When he purchased it as a one-owner California machine, it showed only 2500 miles, and now the odometer reads 10,660 miles. This is a great opportunity to acquire a fantastic riding British icon of cool, owned by an American icon of the same.

1966 BSA Hornet Here it is. The very rare BSA Hornet. If you are a BSA collector, then you know what this is. BSA made the Hornet as a racing bike for TT racing back in the day and they very very dominating. Fiberglass fuel tank to save weight. You could buy a headlight/tail light for them and ride them on the road. This Hornet has been ridden on the road only and has been an integral part of my collection since college. I had a BSA Hornet in high school and I could beat every other bike out there. Nobody could touch me. These bikes are fast and have high compression, more than the ordinary BSA Lightning or other BSA's. So, get ready when you kick it over. Bring it up to top dead center and kick it through after you tickle these original Amal carbs and she will sound like a fuel dragster!!! This is an original Hornet with the original Hornet engine. The bike's frame is original and unmolested and is very clean with no rust. It is missing the side stand, chain guard and the left side cover is from a 650 Lightning. I have the rear tail light lens and am putting in back on. Clean bike. The real deal here so bid accordingly. The name comes from the Osborn Engineering Company of Portsmouth where Frederick Osborn built motorcycles before the First World War. His son resumed production in 1920 and with Fred Wood introduced duplex steering to racing motorcycles for the TT race in 1927. The firm kept going until 1954, latterly mainly producing speedway motorcycles. The Osborn Engineering Company was very active in designing and building special frames for racing and record breaking machines. A famous design was also the duplex-steering spring-chassis, an invention of John Osborn. It was introduced as a new standard in two wheel stability in 1927. The duplex forks gave both a unique but superior steering capability and road holding quality. The World Speed Record was taken briefly by a duplex-steering OEC fitted with a supercharged 1000 cc JAP V-twin. Top speed was 137.32 miles per hour! This bike is in excellent overall condition. I had Peter Askey of Uncommon Motorcycles in Erie, PA build me this bike. A stock S4 put out approximately 99 horses at the shaft and I wanted more. Peter had a Ducati tech from Italy install an SPS race kit in the bike which includes a special ECU, SPS cams, valves and twin Termignoni pipes. The result is approximately 123 rear wheel horsepower. I’ll look for Peter’s dyno sheet if you need it. Our technician Phillip has recently changed the oil, flushed the fuel tank and lines, cleaned the throttle bodies, serviced the air filter, replaced spark plugs and lubricated the chain. The front and rear Marchesini wheel’s are in near perfect shape, balanced properly and wrapped with Pirelli’s. The tires have great tread left, ready for several more optimum performance seasons. The front Brembo dual disk brakes are in phenomenal shape as well as the rear single caliper. Both front and rear have plenty of pad life left, and the steel braided lines give the brakes that solid stopping power you expect from a Monster. The front and rear suspension is fabulous. The front forks have excellent dust seals, and bushings and they don’t leak fork oil or bottom out under strenuous behavior. The rear shock has never had a problem and it provides a comfortable feel when maneuvering in any condition. The handlebars and instruments are all in splendid condition. With a hydraulic clutch and nylon covered steel braided line the disengagement of this dry clutch is a cakewalk. Both bar-end mirrors are in well condition with no cracks and are substantially adjustable. The magneti-marelli 160 mph speedometer MPH speedometer and 11,000 RPM tachometer both work properly. Needless to say, the high beam passing function works efficiently as well as the turn signals, the throttle body enrichener, the ignition switch, the engine shut off switch and even the start switch. The fuel tank is in great condition, has recently been cleaned and it has no rust or ethanol fuel deposits. The seat has a cover over the passenger seat that is easily removable if necessary. This bike is equipped with passenger foot rests as well. The seat is in premium condition with no rips, tears, or sun damage. We installed several pieces of Ducati Corsa bodywork from the catalog such as front fender, tank and rear fender. A Givi fairing was added for protection/comfort and painted to match the Corsa bodywork. We also installed from the Ducati catalog several “Fogarty” Monster carbon fiber bits: clutch cover, lower fairing, chain guard, radiator shroud’s, side covers and more. We added Cycle Cat bar risers too for your wrists. She’s cute, fast, dependable, unique, and comfortable. She has that earsplitting sound only a Ducati can pull off with Termigoni’s. This bike has been lovingly cared for in a climate controlled shop and attended to by a full time technician. Her battery’s been tended. She’s been fed non-ethanol Stabilized fuel. We have recently added Marvel Mystery Oil to our ladies food supply. Nothing’s too good for our girls. You can fly in to meet us at AEX and drive this bike home anywhere.
