Testastretta 11° DS The Testastretta 11° engine was introduced on the Multistrada 1200 in 2010. Derived from the Superbike 1198 engine, it achieved brilliant results when valve overlap was reduced from 41° (typical of sport engines) to 11°, losing some peak power in favour of improved overall smoothness, especially in the mid-range. The new Multistrada family introduces the second generation of Testastretta 11° DS engines with several new features that make it even smoother and more tractable. Dual Spark ignition (DS) uses two plugs per cylinder to ensure complete combustion in very short time. The fuel injectors have been relocated to aim the jet of fuel directly at the hotter rear end of the suction valve, so that all fuel is atomised. A secondary air system similar to that of the 1199 Panigale has been introduced to optimise operation and reduce cyclic combustion variability without affecting emissions. A controlled flow of fresh air is supplied to the exhaust duct to enable complete oxidisation of hot unburnt gases, to effectively reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide levels. You just stay on the gas while electronic up-shifting thru right-left snaking bends keeps the suspension perfectly settled as a rock. this Has been my own bike since 2011 I bought it crashed as all our bikes are. It's what Ducati should have done with their Tri colore. the $1200 vented dry slipper clutch keeps the back end from chattering as you click downshifts into bends along with the tremendous engine braking from these thumping v-twins used in harmony with the massive Brembo performance mono-bloc brakes and rotors and radial master cyclinder . It has a Larger aluminum lightweight race fuel tank that holds a few extra liters which also eliminates the swelling problem that happens from the ethanol fuel in all the stock Ducati plastic tanks. The fewer the cylinders, the more concessions, and with its two cylinder V-twin design Ducati was able to capitalize on many of these concessions.Ducati argued that the current engine was at the end of its design life (which surrendered as much as 20 hp to the competition in 2007, its last year in WSBK) and that it would be too expensive to keep the 999 competitive. The 2007 WSBK rules limited V-twin engines to 1000 cc, so Ducati effectively did not have a guarantee that the 1098 was eligible for entry in the premier class. Before releasing the 1098, Ducati lobbied the FIM to update the WSBK rules to accommodate its new bike, threatening to withdraw from WSBK competition if the rules weren't changed. Other manufacturers were not happy about racing a bike with a larger engine, especially when that bike belonged to Ducati, which has historically dominated WSBK competition, and Suzuki even threatened to withdraw if the rules were changed.
