1997 Honda Vfr 750F, For sale is a 1997 Honda VFR750F, one of the finest all-around motorcycles ever built--a proclamation made by practically every motorcycling publication on the planet and further evidenced by the '90-to-'97 iteration of the VFR winning a Cycle World Ten Best award every year of its existence. Not only was the V-Four VFR a Ten Best winner an amazing 11 times, including 10 straight years--from 1990 to '97 as a 750, then from '98 to '99 (and again in 2002) as an 800. The VFR won those accolades for good reason: It is one of the great motorcycles of all time. It's sporty enough to hold its own in the twisties, comfy enough for days on the road and practical enough to be an everyday commuter. The 1997 VFR750F has a 748cc, dohc V-Four with an aluminum frame and single-sided swingarm. Its 105 horsepower propelled the 515-pound, fully faired sport-tourer to an 11.46-second quarter-mile time at 119.04 mph and a top speed of 148 mph. Both cosmetically and mechanically this bike has been meticulously maintained by an adult driver/owner. Always been garaged, never been in an accident, no problems other than normal maintenance (tires, batteries, oil changes, etc). Clear title in hand (single owner). All original documentation available. Completely stock, never abused or misused. The only non-stock additions are a set of Helibars and the Corbin hard panniers. The stock clipons and passenger seat cowl are included along with a Kerker Carbon Fiber slip on exhaust (too loud for my taste). This bike is in excellent shape as can be seen in the pictures. You're bidding on a 1995 VFR750F Interceptor, fourth generation (4th gen). This is the iconic RC30 motorcycle that brought all the best Honda race technology to the masses. An aluminum frame coupled with a single-sided swingarm, and a nearly bulletproof powerplant featuring a four stroke 90-degree V4 with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder producing 105hp at 10k RPM. It features a 6-speed transmission that is smooth as butter and very, very fast; it will handle highway speeds with barely any effort and even 6th gear has plenty of passing power. The aluminum twin-spar perimeter frame keeps the weight down, a mere 461lbs dry weight, but it's unbelievably stable on the highway. A 5.5 gallon tank will keep you riding for many miles on long cruises or commutes. This bike is considered a sport-touring bike, and has a slightly more vertical sitting position to make it more comfortable to ride longer distances. It's a classic, iconic Honda that has it all: the speed, the agility, the endurance for long rides, and the race pedigree. VFR owners know all about how amazing this bike is, and a few minutes of research on the internet can give you all the testament you'll need. But enough about that - you want to know about this particular bike. I purchased this bike to bring it back to life. The previous owner had a low-speed mishap on the left side and didn't ride very often. Fast forward many years later, and it certainly needed plenty of TLC to get it back to daily driving. I came across this gem with a focus more on the mechanical than the cosmetic. I wanted a potential daily driver for my commute that could handle highway speeds in stability and comfort but still be manageable in the city. I wanted it to be ultra-reliable and as low-maintenance as possible. I wanted it to be fun to ride. I found this VFR750 with some cosmetic faults and just a few mechanical problems that could easily be fixed and most importantly: the engine ran perfectly. I've completed all the mechanical tasks I set out to do and brought it back to a daily driver state. I ride it naked (no fairings) out of personal preference, and because the left fairing has some damage to it. I just happen to like the look of a naked bike, plus the photos should show you plenty of detail as to the condition of things 'under' the fairings, so to speak. Nothing hidden here. Also, it's garage kept. The next owner of this bike will have the advantage of having everything mechanical already replaced and taken care of - the only thing left is restoring the left fairing (not overly difficult or expensive, I'm told - or you could simply replace the left fairing completely for a couple of hundred bucks) and fix a crack in the top fairing. A coat of paint and it'll look as nice as it runs. The seat cover has some tears in it (possibly from the fall, I don't know - again, it's just cosmetic, see the photos). I'll throw in a new seat cover you can have an upholstery shop staple into place (grey color). I also recently picked up the rear seat cowl; it's red and it's ultra rare for this generation of VFR. Included of course. So, needless to say, this is an older motorcycle (twenty years old!) and it has clearly seen a few dings. Previous owner definitely laid it down and the left fairings have some damage. Mechanically, nearly everything has been replaced or reconditioned and it runs perfectly. At this point the only damage is cosmetic. Forks have been completely rebuilt, seals replaced, fork oil replaced, and brand new RaceTech springs installed. All electronics and lights work flawlessly. Headlights, turn signals, brake lights, all work perfectly. The previous owner deleted the rear fender so I added a small LED license plate light (it's the law down here). You can change it or remove it easily.Clutch has been completely rebuilt with a brand new clutch pack and rebuilt master and slave cylinder. Clutch is hydraulic - very consistent, smooth operation and far superior to cable clutches found in lower-tech bikes or 'race' bikes claiming a weight savings with a cable clutch.Rear tire is nearly new, front tire is still fine but could stand to be replaced. One of the mirrors is cracked but both are functional.Chain and sprockets are all brand new: D.I.D. x-ring chain and ultra-light front and rear sprocket set. Master link is riveted for performance and safety.Brand new air filter.New Renthal grips.Oil and filter were changed less than 200 miles ago with motorcycle-specific synthetic oil. Coolant flushed and replaced, hydraulics (brake and clutch) flushed and replaced. Spark plugs are all new Iridium NGK. Fuel tank internals replaced with brand new fuel level float + sender, and new petcock and primary fuel filter.Has an aftermarket non-OEM locking gascap installed. Keys are included.Inline fuel filter replaced.Fuel pump replaced and works.Brand new Shorai Lithium battery. (that's a $200 battery - feel free to look it up.)Includes rear seat cowl - those things are rare!Includes the full set of external fairings.Includes a new vinyl seat cover to replace the damaged seat cover on it now.It has the OEM Honda exhaust and has never had an aftermarket exhaust fitted to it.Includes two keys.The bike shows external wear - to be expected from a 20 year old vehicle - but is mechanically sound and runs great. The left fairing has some damage on it, and can be repaired.The upper left side of the top fairing (where the left turn signal sits) has a small crack. The duct tape on the inner side currently seals the crack, and the two pieces of duct tape on the top and outside of the turn signal simple create a seal around the turn signal. The crack is easily repaired.The bottom fairing is intact and in good condition.The seat has some tears on the left side. I'm including a new vinyl seat cover you can use to replace it.It's missing one bar-end. You'll notice a shiny aluminum spot on the frame above the right rearset (footpeg). The previous owner painted the frame of the bike black (probably around the time he painted it white with a black stripe). I was testing to see how difficult it would be to remove the black paint from the frame (the original bike has a raw aluminum frame.) Again, simple cosmetic work.Please look at the photos carefully! There's a lot to see, and I'm happy to answer any questions about the bike or what was done to restore it to fully operational. This facilitates optimum positioning in the chassis to enhance weight distribution and create a slim profile and responsive handling. Powerband priorities focused on the low- and mid-speed ranges used most frequently for street riding rather than the harder-edged attributes of a supersport bike that might see lots of track time. As a result the power jumps in quickly low in the rpm range right where riders need it on the street. Yet at higher engine speeds the CBR650F still packs a smooth strong punch. The basic configuration and dimensions of this liquid-cooled four-valve engine were initially developed using computer-assisted engineering (CAE). The cylinder bank cants forward at a 30-degree angle to help lower the bike's center of gravity. This angle also facilitates a remarkably straight shot from the air intakes through the air cleaner to the intake ports and out the exhaust pipe. Net result: a reduction in the intake and exhaust resistance which helps boost power output and fuel efficiency. Tapered intake air funnels and active streamlining of airflow through the air cleaner—plus use of a large panel-type filter element—provides ample air intake. The four exhaust pipes curve down in an attractive flowing shape and tuck in tightly to the engine—moving the oil filter to the rear of the engine allows this compact arrangement. The thermostat in turn now mounts at the front of the engine to shorten the engine coolant path adding to the engine's compact design. A large two-chamber collector box beneath the engine helps make this four-into-two-into-one exhaust system notably short and compact; keeping this weight low and close to the center of mass helps promote nimble handling. Chain-driven dual overhead camshafts and bore and stroke settings of 67mm by 46mm were chosen for optimal power. The DOHC layout allows a large degree of freedom for creating an efficient combination of included valve angle port shape and combustion chamber design. A silent-type cam chain with tough vanadium surface treatment applied to the cam chain pins helps reduce friction to minimize parasitic power losses. Valve timing was set to minimize the overlap when intake and exhaust valves are both open to promote fuel efficiency. The intake valves measure 27.5mm in diameter while exhaust valves with a diameter of 22.5mm are used. The piston pins and connecting rods are treated with a special friction-reducing protective coating for greater durability and efficiency. Like Honda's supersport bikes the CBR650F stacks the transmission shafts in a vertical plane to shorten overall engine length and further centralize mass. Breathing holes pierce the walls between crankcase journals to reduce pumping losses during piston travel. For the cylinders thin-wall sleeves are formed through centrifugal casing to minimize cylinder strain while achieving a lightweight and compact design. Lightweight aluminum engine hangers are used to bolt the powerplant into the twin-spar diamond-shape steel frame with the engine acting as a stressed member of the chassis—an efficient layout for enhanced handling. The main frame tubes measuring 64mm by 30mm are oval in cross-section for added strength in the key vertical axis while yielding tuned flex in other dimensions for added rider comfort. Thanks to the compact engine design the engine could be positioned forward in the chassis to achieve close to a 50/50 weight distribution between front and rear axles for a balanced feel. Forged-molding pivot plates eliminate a need for frame covers in the pivot area which helps minimize frame width in that crucial rider/bike interface point. The rider position feels natural and spacious with just a slight forward lean and the full fairing deflects a substantial portion of the oncoming wind stream. The one-piece seat requires a reach of only 31.9 inches down to the ground; careful seat shaping makes it feel like that distance is even less. A 41mm fork handles suspension duties up front; it yields a comfortable 4.7 inches of well-controlled travel. In back the single-shock rear suspension is actuated directly by the strong yet lightweight aluminum swingarm for 5.0 inches of rear-wheel travel. Shock spring preload is adjustable in seven steps to accommodate variations in load and riding conditions. Wave-type dual front 320mm disc brakes and a 240mm rear give strong stopping power and lend a stylish touch while also saving unsprung weight. The front brakes use twin-piston calipers while the rear is a single-piston type. Honda's ABS system is available for more confident stopping in challenging conditions. The instrument panel on the CBR650F is a full LCD multi-function digital meter that includes speedometer tachometer odometer/A&B tripmeters fuel gauge and clock. This display can also show average and instantaneous fuel consumption. Those of you who know this machine, know this machine. Honda discontinued the VTR1000F a few years ago despite all of the praise and rave reviews for its amazing performance and reliability. If you are not familiar with this model please take a moment to do some online research and you will find loads of great reviews and positive commentary. The VTR1000F has the largest carburetors Honda has ever put on one of its production motorcycles and while being a true performance sport bike the riding position is slightly more upright than other sport bikes, making long rides and tours much more comfortable. This bike has had two adult owners, myself and the woman I purchased it from about seven years ago. It has been very well maintained and cared for, and has always been stored indoors. This is a stock motorcycle with the exception of the aftermarket front turn signals and removal of the factory license plate holder/rear fender. The first owner removed the license plate holder/rear fender and installed an alternate license plate bracket and light. This bike has always passed Massachusetts state inspection without any issues. The plastic panel covering the rear of the seat is easily removed to accommodate a passenger. The original Honda VTR1000F Owner's Guide and stock tool kit are with the bike and in great condition. Honda discontinued the VTR1000F a few years ago despite all of the praise and rave reviews for its amazing performance and reliability. If you are not familiar with this model please take a moment to do some online research and you will find loads of great reviews and positive commentary. The VTR1000F has the largest carburetors Honda has ever put on one of its production motorcycles and while being a true performance sport bike the riding position is slightly more upright than other sport bikes, making long rides and tours much more comfortable. This bike has had two adult owners, myself and the woman I purchased it from about seven years ago. It has been very well maintained and cared for, and has always been stored indoors. This is a stock motorcycle with the exception of the aftermarket front turn signals and removal of the factory license plate holder/rear fender. The first owner removed the license plate holder/rear fender and installed an alternate license plate bracket and light. This bike has always passed Massachusetts state inspection without any issues. The plastic panel covering the rear of the seat is easily removed to accommodate a passenger. The original Honda VTR1000F Owner's Guide and stock tool kit are with the bike and in great condition. I have just installed a new Interstate AGM battery. I also have the Honda (HELM) factory maintenance and service manuals for this bike available for sale as well.
