LEGENDS MOTORCYCLES INC The Merchants of Vintage Offered again as the winning bidder was a dead beat. 1958 Ariel 500 model VH If you have questions email us before you bid. Offered for your vintage riding pleasure is a classic British single Ariel. The bike was sold new in Ft. Collins Colorado and spent its entire life in the state. Only two owners before we obtained it. The former owner owned it since 1976. He operated an independent motorcycle repair shop until his retirement. About 6 years ago he went thru the motor completely. For years this was his ride to and from work and used to explore the back roads in the mountains west of his city on Sundays. It is not stock as he modified it over the years to suit his needs. According to him the motor renovation included a new piston, valves and guides. A rod kit along with new pinion and sprocket shaft bearings were also installed at that time. It then received sparse usage after this work occurred. Alas, like a lot of us who have got a few years on us he found kick starting a large single wasn’t the fun it once was. It has new alloy fenders front and rear. The seat is a Bates style scrambler seat. The rubber is Dunlop K 70 universals. The frame isn’t modified as near as I can tell and it has a head light, no tail light. The bike has a clear Colorado title. It starts with a bit of effort and has tremendous compression. I can generally get it going in 5-6 kicks on a warm day. It could use some general cleaning up and probably would respond to some tuning to make it an easier starter. There are no other parts. What you see in the pictured is what is for sale. It is being sold as is and no warranty is offered as it is a 56 year old motorcycle. Please ask questions early to give me time to respond Please read and understand. This is our terms. Payment arrangements are as follows; If you have questions email before you bid. Successful bidder must make a $500 deposit thru pay pal within 48 hours of auction conclusion. Remainder can be paid in Cash on pick up or in a wire transfer from your bank to ours directly within 5 days of sale. No exceptions, we grow weary of bidders who don't have funds. Shipping or bike pick up You are welcome to come for the bike with prior arrangements. We can pallet the bike and ship dock to dock in most parts of the USA for about $450.00. That means you will have to go to the trucking company with a truck or trailer to pick it up. You may have the option of having them deliver it but that is an extra charge by them and you will have to consult with them for a price for that service. Shipping charges This is not included in the sale price but is a separate charge. You are also welcome to make your own shipping arrangements using a transporter. We have used Semper Fi transportation for this purpose and would put you in contact with them if you like. Remember your bid is a confirmation you have read all the above and agree with all the terms presented. YOU WILL BE HELD LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR BID AND ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE PAYMENT WITHOUT EXCUSE. THERE FOR ASK BEFORE NOT AFTER YOU HAVE MADE A BID IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. We have been in business since 1986 and sold on ebay for 13 years.

Owned by Poison’s Rikki Rockett 1964 BSA A65 Lightning Rocket Engine Number Number: A65D 5124 BSA followed their acquisition of Ariel with the purchase of Triumph in 1951. It was decided from the outset that BSA and Triumph would retain complete autonomy. Indeed, that policy endured for almost two decades, until BSA Triumph Group Ltd were in dire financial straits, by when a certain amount of Badge Engineering did then occur, albeit against great opposition from a loyal middle management. So, when it came to the vital introduction of unit construction motors BSA unfortunately lagged about three years behind. BSA's 650cc A65 still sold across the globe in tens of thousands; its rugged engine also evolved into the definitive mode of propulsion in the hyper competitive world of European sidecar racing. By 1965 this machine had become the Lightning which was a natural design progression aimed at the American market. This California black license plate, matching numbers icon of British café racer and rocker culture of the 1960s is most appropriately owned by the drummer of quintessential rock band Poison, Rikki Rockett. From Mechanicsburg, PA, this founding member of the band has been a huge fan of the Britbike scene that began in the cafes of the North Circular of London. He began Brit Iron Rebels, a vintage and modern retro motorcycle internet-based group dedicated to that Rocker motorcycle culture. Some years ago, the bike was subject to a complete restoration. Rockett’s enthusiasm to ride is reflected in just how the bike was built. It was completely dismantled and everything was rebuilt, refurbished or replaced as needed. The engine was fully rebuilt and the gearbox was gone through and then hung in the powder-coated frame. All cycle parts were rebuilt, including new Excel rims, polished, painted and laced with stainless spokes. The bike was upgraded to electronic ignition to aid reliability. Attention was given as needed to brakes and suspension. Up front, a Triumph T140 front end was installed with disc brake for the greatly improved braking of 1970s technology. Cosmetically, the bike is beautifully presented. Tank and side panels were repainted and remain in excellent condition. The rest of the bike is also nicely settled with the patina of a high quality restoration. The bike is in excellent riding condition. Fresh from service to ready the bike for sale, it starts easily, idles well and the engine is responsive and powerful. It shifts well through the gearbox with a good clutch. Brakes and suspension work well and all electrical systems operate as they should. And again Rockett’s enthusiasm for the bike is reflected in the mileage. When he purchased it as a one-owner California machine, it showed only 2500 miles, and now the odometer reads 10,660 miles. This is a great opportunity to acquire a fantastic riding British icon of cool, owned by an American icon of the same.

BIGGER IS BETTER (back Ground) The MOV was doing so well that a larger version was needed & by lengthening the stroke, they created the 350cc Velocette MAC in 1934. It became the real bread winner for Velocette Motorcycles, their best-selling model. The much-needed capital was invested in an entirely new design, a big 500cc OHV single sport version to be called the MSS in 1935. This utilized an all-new frame, developed from the MkV KTT race machines & shared this frame with the KSS MkII, 1936-48. The MSS was another runaway hit for Velocette Motorcycles. World War II halted production which did not resume until much later. The 1935 MSS was a much more modern machine with the same frame as the Velocette MAC and was fitted with sidecar lugs and had optional panniers to appeal to the touring market. Buyers started tuning the MSS for speed, however, and the factory responded by producing the sports Velocette Venom model. Burt Monro from New Zealand, featured in the film "The World’s Fastest Indian" chose a 1936 MSS 500cc raced a heavily modified Velocette MSS. Racing preparations including making special pistons, changing the frame and increasing bored out engine capacity to 650cc. His top speed record on this motorcycle was 138 mph. with a 1/4 mile time of 12.31 seconds. This fine example is reported to be an excellent runner and fun to ride. Ariel, BMW, BSA, Belle Plaine Excelsior Henderson, Harley Davidson, Indian Brave, Indian Enfield, Norton, Royal Enfield, Triumph, to name a few. 1953 Indian Brave. A short history of the Indian Brave: The first Indians were built in Springfield, MA in 1902.The duPont Company took control of the Indian Motocycle Company (yes MOTOcycle) in 1930, but poor profits from too few Army contracts inticed them to sell to Ralph Rogers in 1945. Rogers turned his engineering expertise to small vertical singles and twins, hoping to compete with the British invasion. He continued producing the Chief through 1948, but slowed production of the Chief in '49, concentrating instead on the new bikes. But the new bikes had been hastily engineered and badly produced. Rogers had borrowed heavily from Brockhouse Ltd. in England, who owned Excelsior Motorcycles in Birmingham. In 1950, Brockhouse called in the debt, and divided Indian into separate sales and manufacturing companies.Brockhouse introduced the Indian Brave you see here, which used a side-valve unit-construction engine. Its piston displaced 248.326 cc (76mm x 64.5mm bore). The bike featured a modified Albion three-speed gearbox and put out 8.25 HP. The motorcycle was capable of 50 mph cruising speed, with a top speed of nearly 60 mph, and got 80 mpg.Rogers went out of business in 1953, making the Springfield Indian Company here in America officially bankrupt. But Brockhouse still owned the rights to the Indian name, and was still selling their Braves to Indian dealerships here in America in 1954. According to my research, approximately 14,000 Indian Braves were produced and sold (both here in America and in England), which would make this bike number 7,502 out of apx 14,000.Brockhouse stopped manufacturing motorcycles in 1955 to concentrate on badging Royal Enfields as Indians, and imported these models to the Indian dealerships here in the US until 1960. But that's another chapter in Indian's history. This bike has been completely restored. Crankshaft-to-piston crown and wheel-to-wheel. Everything is new or re-fabricated. The original header and muffler are in very good condition. Mechanically, the bike needs nothing. The title is clear. The original chronometric speedometer is in beautiful condition. But the parts for the speedometer drive are no longer available, so the speedometer does not work. The bike has a wheel-base of 52.06". Tires are 300X18. Seat height is 29" without rider. Handlebar height measures 37" from center of grip-end to the road. Adjusting bars forward or backward will alter this height. Actual wet weight (ride-ready, w/battery, all fluids, 1/8 gallon gas in tank) is 233 pounds. (49% weight on front wheel, 51% of weight on rear wheel) Add 6 pounds per gallon of gas, which may alter front/rear weight percentages. Everything is stock except the piston (Wiseco), chain, sprockets, battery box .... The bike was produced and sold with NO battery box at all, battery just sticking out like a sore thumb. We fabricated a nice-looking, period-correct battery box. Also non-stock are the tires and inner tubes, cables, handlebar grips, many assorted bushings, bearings and gaskets. The seat is period-correct and was on the bike when we acquired it. All the wiring is new, fabricated and covered in period-looking sheathing, routed as we observed in 1953 advertising photos. I assume the handle bar levers are stock, as they look period-correct. They were on the bike when we acquired it. The frame is repainted, the tank and fenders are repainted. The decals are NOS, made in the late 40's/early 50's, purchased from the Indian Owners Club of America. They were very brittle, and we went through three sets before we succeeded, and even then the right side is not perfect. Tank has been clear-coated after the decals were applied.
