WATCH VIDEO ABOVE FOR MORE DETAILS. SERIOUS, SINCERE BUYERS/COLLECTORS ONLY PLEASE. This is a VERY special motorcycle and part of my personal collection. You cannot build this bike for this price. I have far too many vintage British motorcycles at the moment and it is WAY too overwhelming for me to maintain and keep them all. I NEVER had any plans to sell this bike but situations in life have changed and now it is being offered. This bike has so much history around here in this area it is hard to type it all out. HARD to put a price on it as well. Bikes of this nature do NOT surface very often. 1962 TRIUMPH TR6SS PRE UNIT "FLATTRACKER" Bike was owned, raced and maintained by Jim "Birdie" Byers here in southern IN. from 1965 until 2005. I feel it is important and vital for the new owner to know just who owned this bike and what it meant to him. So here is a little history on Jim: Obituary for James A. "Birdie" Byers BOONVILLE — James A. "Birdie" Byers, 60, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. Birdie was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association and National Rifle Association. He was a professional motorcycle racer on the Flat Track Racing Circuit from 1965 to 1970. His bike was a '62 Triumph Trophy and his number was 73H. As for the bike: Clean and clear title in my name for easy transfer. Bike is titled off of the engine #'s. Can be EASILY plated and street ridden. Brake and taillights are working and I do street ride it. Birdie raced this bike all over. Springfield, IL., Duquoin, IL., Knoxville, TN., Indianapolis, IN. and MANY more places. Both TT, 1/2 mi and vintage short track. All machine work was done by Don's Cycle Shop in Rockport, IN. Frame is an early Triumph "Pre Duplex" frame. Engine is a Hubert "Sonny" Routt 825cc Big bore "Twin". TR6SS lower end with splayed port head (ALL VALVES, GUIDES, SPRINGS FRESH) Slick shift 4 speed transmission Twin Mikuni 34mm's Mity Max system Lucas magneto Conical front wheel from a '70 Tri. New Avon tires (more street friendly). Taillight and brake lights all work excellent as well as the tachometer light (any headlight could be installed if you want to go back to street riding) ! Since I bought it from the family, it has been stored in my collection and started/ridden on special occasions. Bike runs and rides EXCELLENT!!!!! Bike is SUPER FAAAAASSSSSTTT! Pulls like a MULE! Again, a VERY special machine that will be greatly missed but hopefully the new owner will appreciate just how special it is and take it out to show it off. That's about it. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about the bike: (812)631-7790 Bike is sold "As Is" and "Where Is". No warranty expressed or implied obviously BUT if you are in the area you are welcome and encouraged to come and physically inspect the bike anytime you like. PLEASE ask or request addition pics if you need them. I'm happy to do that anytime. Trying to cover every square inch of a large, antique bike can be difficult so bare with me. Nothing to hide here. SHIPPING: I use Keyboard Motorcycle Shippers and Haulbikes.com. I will work with you on this end and assist any way I can. Paying: I prefer cash in hand and a handshake but will take a cashiers' check or bank-to-bank wires and I will work with you from start to finish 100% on shipping the car. However shipping costs are buyers responsibility. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS ARE WELCOME! NO PAYPAL UNLESS YOU PAY THE FEES! I DO NOT LIKE PAYPAL AND I THINK THEIR FEES ARE OUTRAGEOUS! IF YOU WANT TO USE PAYPAL, YOU WILL HAVE TO BE LIABLE FOR THE EXTRA FEES. SORRY...BUT IT'S UNREAL WHAT THEY CHARGE FOR BASICALLY DOING NOTHING.

Selling my new bike to fund another new Triumph that I recently purchased. I spared NO expense on this motorcycle! I purchased this bike special order from Moto Europa in St. Louis, MO. After purchasing it I began to immediately install everything you see here. The dealer did install the exhaust and do the proper "remap" of the injection system before I picked it up. I wanted a bike that would resemble the Husqvarna's and DT Yamaha's that I grew up loving and riding. Since then I have ridden it from Indiana through Kentucky, to Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Only 3200 miles Here is what it is: 2014 Triumph Scrambler 900 in the unusual and hard to find (Matte Pacific Blue) Dealer installed full Arrow system with remapDealer installed center stand"Yellow" Halo headlight bulbBelle Corse seatBritish Customs taillightBritish Customs "thumb screws" for seatBritish Customs smoked turn signalsHagon +30mm rear suspension (for me, 6' 4" at 240lbs)Monza flip fuel cap1972 Husqvarna WR450 barsBritish Customs headlight rock guardNew Continental front and rear Twinduro tiresOury grips Triumph dealer installed battery tender included Again, I spared NO EXPENSE on this bike and I LOVE the way it turned out!! Performs and looks BETTER than new!!! I have EVERY single ORIGINAL part that taken off of this bike and these parts are included. Also included are OEM Triumph oil filters, Triumph oil, OEM seat, OEM signals, OEM exhaust, extra (BRAND NEW CONTI TWINDURO TIRES), extra front and rear brake pads (NEW OEM), Original owners books, and clean clear Indiana title in my name in hand. Bike has been stored, maintained, ridden and taken care of my ME and ME only. I have invested A LOT of time and money in this motorcycle. I will entertain SERIOUS and REALISTIC OFFERS. Please ask anything. Cheers Shipping: I would ride it home if I were you, but if not: Shipping costs are the buyers responsibility but I will work out the details with your shipper to load the bike up. I recommend Uship, Keyboard Motorcycle Shippers and Haulbikes. Selling my 1958 TR6 Triumph desert sled...this is the type of bike raced by Steve Mcqueen (aka Harvey Mushman) and Bud Ekins as well as other celebrities back in the day. I have no idea if any of them owned this bike...but could be ? This bike was converted to a race bike a long time ago so no paperwork comes with the bike. Sold on a Bill of Sale ONLY ! I changed the fluids and the spark plug wires and it started right up. It was dry stored for many years so the tank is pretty clean inside. It looks like someone started taking it apart at some time and there are some missing bolts and fasteners so I did not ride it. It has some very cool old racing pipes with built in brackets, one of which has been repaired. Also has a Bonneville top end which is pretty common on race bikes. The generator hole on the engine has a block off plate so spark only on this one. The tank may be a later smaller capacity tank which is also common. The front tire has a slow leak so it won't hold air. Look closely at the pictures and give me a call if you have questions @ 951-992-9839 The bike is located in SOCAL but it came from the East Coast so who knows it's history All sales are final so have your funds in place before purchasing. I don't renegotiate the price after you buy it ! ALL shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer as well as ALL associated costs. I will store for a reasonable period of time but payment must be made as soon as you purchase. I will take cash, personal checks or a bank wire transfer. I will not sell this bike outside the USA as I don't have the paperwork and am not willing to get it !

International Six Days Trial successes in the late 1940s prompted Triumph to adopt the 'Trophy' name for their off-road-styled twins, at first for the 500cc TR5 and then for the 650cc TR6, introduced for 1956. The bigger Trophy retained its sporting character but became more of a roadster as time passed, ending up, in effect, as a single-carburetor T120 Bonneville. However, although the pair possessed an impeccable engine, Triumph's larger models were widely recognized as lacking in the handling department, especially when compared to rivals Norton. A lighter and smoother motorcycle, the 500cc Triumph Trophy is a bargain for the enthusiast with riding his investment in mind. Only slightly down in power from the bigger 650s, but in a lighter more nimble package, these are a blast to ride, and ride anywhere. The bike offered here takes that premise to a whole new level. A nicely presented and very well built machine, the bike was pieced together by a very capable enthusiast over a few years, some years ago. Starting with a 1961 T100 frame, an engine from 1965 bike was rebuilt from the sludge traps and crank up to valves, including new bearings?, seals, gaskets, rings, valves, etc. The bike was then treated to upgraded and custom cycle parts. Up front are Cerriani forks and triple trees straddling a 19” Dunlop wheel with a good Dunlop tire and custom metal front mudguard. Rear wheel is also a 19” item with good tire. Custom foot pegs were made and fitted with fresh rubbers, and new handlebars installed. A custom aluminum oil tank looks great and a Webco points cover and desert sled style pipes are nice finishing touches. The bike was completely rewired and uses late model switchgear. A small front headlight adds to the custom street tracker feel of the bike. The black paint on the steel tank is good, and the custom seat is excellent and really comfy for the design. The bike starts easily and runs well. It handles really well in the tracker/desert sled set up, is light and nimble and a fantastic machine through city traffic and on the twisty country lanes. Though there is no speedo, there are only a few miles on the bike since its build and is still in excellent condition throughout And a blast to ride.

1970 Trackmaster Norton 750 Commando Desert Motocross Vintage custom buildTHIS IS A BUY IT NOW AUCTION Built back in 1970 and modified continuously throughout that decade, this bike was built by the son of a famous western movie star from the 1940's & 50's. Constructed here in Phoenix with no care given to the cost, hence no expenses were spared. Trackmaster oil-in-frame custom ordered & built for desert racing with long steering rake. Still sporting it's beautiful original nickel finish. Trackmaster is known for their highly sucessful flat track frames, and this was specifically built for MX & desert racing. Quite possibly the only desert spec Norton frame they ever built surely making it one of a kind. Also has it's custom built Trackmaster swingarm with dual shock positions. When I bought this bike from the original owner, he guesstimated that he had over $40K invested, and these were in 1970's dollars too. So you can only imagine what it might cost to try and replicate this bike today.......and that's if you could find these unobtainium parts. Engine is a 1970 Norton 750 Commando motor which was balanced & blueprinted w/extensive hi-po head & cylinder work. Norton 4 speed transmission - was totally blueprinted. Massey Ferguson points Magneto ignition. Custom built aluminum desert skid plate protects all vitals--see photos. Very rare vintage Hurst Airheart disc brakes w/stainless braided lines – front & rear (cutting edge trick for 1970). Leo St. Martin high seat w/ new velour seat cover. Steve Simons 38mm forks & triples w/custom valving & damping rods. Charles Curnutt long travel desert shocks were custom ordered and were then hand built by Charles. Buchanan built rear wheel. w/stainless heavy duty spokes. Dynamic Machine front & rear axles. Charlie Cavallo open megaphone dual exhaust (these are a work of art). 40mm Del Orto carburetor w/ K&N filter. Charlie Cavallo custom primary housing. Custom billet aluminum magneto cover & various bits. Lightened bolts and nuts (mostly titanium & aluminum). Lightened sprockets and discs. Don Vesco desert tank. Husqvarna aluminum fenders & mounting brackets. Preston Petty front # plate/tool box. All high risk bolts & nuts safety wired for racing. There's more I just can't remember. When I was loading the bike the owner started telling me about all the engine mods, but after a while my head was spinning as it was just too much for me to absorb. Rest assured, there probably isn't another 750 vintage dirt race bike that can keep up with this one. So now you can tell all those other guys riding their Rickman Triumph 750 desert sleds to "EAT MY ROCKS!" The one time I fired up and rode this bike was like living through one of California's 8.5 magnitude earthquakes. It was so stinking loud and is so ridiculously fast that it really is quite scary, and let me assure you that this bike is a real handful and is of expert level riding skill required. Without a doubt this is a man's bike, for sure. This is a loud, brash, 'in your face' vintage desert sled. It is beyond trick--beyond works---it's simply one of a kind and would most likely be impossible to duplicate now. Here's your chance to buy at less than 1/2 it's 1970's build cost. $17,500.00 ONLY ISSUES I can find are: Normal wear. Excellent compression and spark. Starts easily and runs strong. Bike has been sitting for a while and should have a complete RACE PREP by you prior to riding or racing it.Please look at photos and ask questions USE PHOTO ZOOM FEATURE. This is your best way to determine it's condition so PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AND ASK QUESTIONS if unclear about anything.Az-Mike 623-465-0636. Feel free to call anytime. This bike DOES NOT have a TITLE. Any balance of funds are due within 7 days via; cash in person, wire transfer, personal check, bank check. Bike does not leave my possession until all funds have cleared my bank. Please only bid if you intend to follow through with the purchase. I will use eBay's unpaid item dispute feature to their full extent if I am pushed into doing so. See below.DISCLAIMER: This is a USED vintage dirt racing motorcycle that comes WITHOUT any warranty or guarantee of any kind. Off road racing and riding is dangerous and buyer understands the inherent risk in competing in any racing or riding event. Bike is sold in used and as-is condition. I have supplied many detailed photos (with zoom feature) and these tell the story, so please look closely and ask questions if needed.SHIPPING: USA--All shipping costs are the responsibility of buyer but I can help arrange for you if needed. 1970 Norton 750Trackmaster Vintage Off-RoadCommando Desert racer NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING OR BUYERS UNLESS BUYER MAKES ALL ARRANGEMENTS, and only then if I am CONTACTED IN ADVANCE. Trackmaster oil-in-frame built specifically for desert racing-- beautiful original nickel finish. Custom Trackmaster swingarm with dual shock positions. 1970 Norton 750 Commando motor - balanced & blueprinted w/extensive head work. Norton 4 speed transmission - blueprinted. Massey Ferguson points Magneto ignition. Custom built aluminum desert skid plate protects all vitals. Vintage Hurst Airheart drilled disc brakes w/stainless braided lines – front & rear (cutting edge trick for 1970's). Leo St. Martin high seat w/ new velour seat cover. Steve Simons 38mm forks & triples. Charles Curnutt long travel desert shocks. Buchanan built wheels w/custom stainless hubs and stainless steel spokes. Dynamic Machine rear and front axles. Charlie Cavallo open megaphone dual exhaust (these are a work of art). 40mm Del Orto carburetor w/ K&N filter & ACK intake manifold. Charlie Cavallo custom primary housing. Custom billet aluminum magneto cover & various bits. Lightened bolts and nuts (mostly titanium & aluminum). Lightened sprockets and discs. Vesco desert tank. 1970 vintage Husqvarna aluminum fenders with custom mounting brackets (see last photo). Preston Petty front #plate / tool box w/vintage desert number plate. 3.25x21 front tire and 5.00x18 rear. All high risk bolts & nuts were safety wired for racing. This is a loud, brash, in your face vintage desert sled. If you're caught behind this bike while racing then you'd be in trouble--if the sound from those open megaphones don't kill you then the roost from that rear tire will. It is beyond trick--beyond 'works' even---it truly is a one-of-a-kind bike and would be impossible to duplicate now. I purchased this bike from the original owner/builder (the son of a famous Hollywood western film star of the 1950's) who had informed me that he had lost count of all the $$ he had invested in this bike. His estimate was 'somewhere around $40,000 or upwards over the years'. He told me that he had always wanted the ultimate MX/desert bike so in 1970 he contacted Trackmaster Racing Frames (who were famous for their short and long track flat-track frames) and specifically requested that they custom build him a motocross / grand prix desert frame for a Norton 750 motor that would have the longer rake steering angle for high speed tracking & stability. He paid them what was a small fortune at the time and waited forever, as Trackmaster was up to their eyeballs making their cutting edge flat track frames. The wait was worth it though because what you see here is this one of a kind / 'only one in the world' frame. Bike started out with conventional Betor short travel suspension and eventually evolved into the bike you see here. He spent ridiculous amounts of $$ on every trick part he could find or have custom built. His budget was unlimited. This bike was raced--improved upon---and raced again until it evolved into the long travel incarnation you see here. I doubt that there is another bike like this anywhere in the world and I sincerely doubt that anyone could duplicate this bike today, at any cost. Most of these parts are one off, and the ones that aren't are surely unobtainable now. Take a close look at those wheels & sprockets, the engine & exhaust, the carb & intake, the footpegs and brake arm, etc. Over 40 years of time and buckets of money have gone into turning a British heavyweight into this lightweight fighting machine. This is the one and only 750 Norton desert frame that was ever built by Trackmaster. Original nickel plate finish still shines like new. THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND BIKE AND SHOULD GO INTO A TOP LEVEL VMX OR OFF ROAD RACING COLLECTION OR MUSEUM. In all my years of collecting these bikes I've never run across another one even remotely like it. Bike has very few miles on it since it was restored. Please use ZOOM feature and check out the photos carefully. ---SEE BELOW FOR FURTHER PURCHASE AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS--- Bike is ready for YOUR RACE PREP prior to riding or racing it.Please look at photos and ask questions (USE zoom FEATURE). This is a repost as a Buy It Now. A buyer from NH ended up bailing on us. This is a neat write up about a special bike. ***************************************************************************** For you Classic Bike fans in general, and vintage Triumph enthusiasts in particular, my partner Nick is parting with his one-owner TR6 S/C. This is a quintessential 650 Triumph in desert sled guise as a "Sport" / "Competition". These are rare bikes - yes, more rare than a Bonnie. The story of how he put this bike together out of a crate while working at a local Triumph dealer in the 60's and the journey they have both been on since then is worth the read. Nick and I own The Classic Bike Experience here in Essex, VT, and he is the Triumph subject matter expert in our group. A bad back and a desire to see the bike used has led him to the decision to part with it. Only to a good home folks. If you can't appreciate what you are looking at, then best to find something else. The bike will be listed on eBay shortly, so if you are keen to check it out, call or better yet, drop by the shop and see it for yourself. Jack **************************************************************************** 1965 Triumph TR6S/C Vin # DU19654 Owners statementJuly 6, 2015 I bought this motorcycle in late Fall of 1964. I was working as a Toolmaker's Apprentice for General Electric and the Toolmaker I was working under was Frank Pelkey, the owner of Frank's Motorcycle Sales in Essex Center VT. He offered me a job nights and weekends assembling motorcycles from the crates and "commissioning" them. When this model was announced, only (2) units were allocated to new England and I spoke up for one of them. I had become partial to the TR6's as they were less finicky about carb settings and not significantly different in output power. The bike was originally fitted with a single speedometer by VDO, center mounted above the headlight. This unit was prone to collecting water and becoming hard to turn to the point that the cable would break after several years. I replaced the cable regularly and had the speedo rebuilt by VDO twice. As a result, the total mileage became very unclear. Several times I would run the bike for a month or two without the speedo , as I was on a limited budget. (who has extra money when they are 20 years old?) In the summer of 1965 I rode it every day rain or shine as it was my only transportation and my girlfriend at the time had taken a job in Hartford CT after graduating from college, so my routine became simple; ride back and forth to work every day, 4;30 Friday night, hammer down the road from Burlington to Hartford and hammer back Sunday afternoon. Lots of miles, never a break-down on the road. I was very faithful to the oil change routine, 1000 miles or less between changes used Quaker State exclusively, bought it by the case. I also did motor work while at Frank's and saw first-hand what happened to engines that didn't get regular oil changes. I couldn't afford new parts so I was very careful to not need them. One weekend I didn't go to Hartford as the dragstrip in Milton VT having a "run what you brung" event that I couldn't resist. I managed to match Cycle World's road test results exactly with an ET of 15.88 @ 88mph through the ¼ mile. This was the only time I dragged it against the timer, all other contests were impromptu and based on circumstance.. I will say that a properly tuned TR6 will whip ass on a poorly tuned Bonneville everytime. Timing settings and technique on 4CA points plate bikesare true separators of skilled mechanics from hackers. The later points plates with individually adjustable and timeable points are much to be desired if points are your thing. I got married to my girlfriend in 1966, so the long rides came to an end and I also had access to a car now and then so the bike became a little less used but still regularly ridden to work and on weekends. In 1967, BSA came out with the 650 vertical twins in a grey painted frame. I thought this was the greatest look in motorcycles so I blew my bike apart one lost weekend and painted everything on it that was black a lovely Kelly green courtesy of Rustoleum spray cans. One of the dumber things I did while in my 20's, but certainly not the only one. (Getting married ranks right up there) Being Dinks during the mid 60's led to a lot of different activities not all of which resulted in the motorcycle being the center of my world. I rode on a bob sled team one winter, (1966 I think) and rode over on the bike in the spring to Mt. Van Hoevenberg to show my wife the bobsled run when it wasn't quite so cold. During that ride I was shoved off the access road by a station wagon intent on using the whole road . The resulting dump in the ditch bent the handlebars slightly and scraped the rim of the headlight. The bars have been replaced but the headlight ring still shows the scar from that episode. 1967 became a year of change for me and the bike. The Vietnam War was going strong and my graduation from the GE Toolmakers Apprentice program meant my draft exemption was up for review. Once I was re-classified, the handwriting was "Writ Large" on my wall, so I enlisted 24 hours before I was drafted in to the US Army. A very good friend agreed to keep the bike for me and ride it regularly while I was in service to my uncle and he was as anal a person as I was about oil changes and maintenance, so I felt it was in good hands. This proved to be the case as I returned 2 years, 11 months and 22 days later to a motorcycle running as good as I had left it and undamaged by its time in another shed. In 1970, I rode it regularly back to work and anywhere that my interests lay including Sunday morning breakfast rides by the local BMW contingent. No discrimination, any two wheeled vehicle was welcomed. 1971 was the year I began serious dirt riding, Suzuki 185's then Cam Am 175's, so the Triumph took a back seat to those interests, although I did brush-bash the Crown Point Military Road for about 30 miles before realizing it wasn't the desert and a 'Western desert sled" wasn't a good "Northeast Stump Jumper" This was the year that the Dunlop Trials Universals went away in favor of K70's and then a K81 for the rear. Replacing the stock sidecar gearing setup with one tooth higher countershaft sprocket pushed the TR6 into highway only territory from then on. Riding it regularly until 1977 when the world fell apart, getting divorced and selling almost everything I owned of value. At that time British motorcycles were relatively worthless due to the Japanese takeover of the motorcycle world. I couldn't get $300 for it. I was determined not to give it away, so I used my military training and preserved it with cosmoline and other materials to ensure it would endure many years in storage without serious detrimental effect. Moving into skuzzy apartments and having little cash for any pursuits other than life support led to a long dry spell in motorcycling. That spell ended in 2009 when I entered into a Classic Bike Cooperative, the forerunner of the Classic Bike Experience. I started restoration and re-commissioning the TR6 in 2009, letting it slide while starting up the business end of CBE and finished the restoration in 2014. It is now complete and needs completion of the initial break-in period, having been run about 65 miles in test and fettling. Details of engine rebuild: New rings, valves, guides, intake seals added, cylinder honed for new rings, taper =.0005 or less. Bore is standard. Cam reground by WEBCAM, lifters refaced. 6CA points plate fitted. (4CA available) New shell bearings, new ball and roller mains. Sludge trap cleaned. Gearbox; This is the W/R option (Wide Ratio) All new ball and needle bearings and thrust rings. New correct ratio speedometer drive gears. (Sidecar gears originally fitted available) Chassis and Body: New paint by Bob Myers Cycle Colors, Burnished Gold with White with the correct pin striping. New control cables and speedo cable. New rubbers on footpegs, K/S & gearshifter. New chain and sprockets. The bike has all original parts either on it or in boxes waiting to be re-used by a future owner. List of changes from original condition" Visible: Dunlop K70 & K81 tires in lieu of Trials Universal. Stainless rims replaced the rusted Dunlop items. Folding foot-pegs, an option added in 1967. (originals available) Later model (1966) rear brake drum with bolt-on sprocket Weber oil rocker feed manifold LED taillight (6V) Pillion peg extensions Single Smiths Speedometer fitted (original VDO and bracket available) Battery tender lead Invisible: Battery cut-off switch added under seat with removable key Spin-on type oil filter added in return line, located above center stand behind engine. Speedo drive gears to match sprocket configuration (originals available) Engine has "lightened" cam drive gears per John Healy design. (originals available) Engine is internally updated to latest ball and roller crankshaft mains and location scheme Engine is prepared internally for Jay Straits venting scheme. Forward mount area is drilled for venting and drainback and filled with stainless steel mesh pack for baffling. External vent location is not drilled. Comment: Purists may say that the all black seat is not original, but it is and was fitted from the crate by me. The seat has not been re-covered. One of my conditions of purchase was that no one except me uncrated it and did the assembly. Also the small tail-light was fitted originally as the larger "bullet" style was being introduced in 1965 on the Bonnevilles, The TR6's were the "poor relations" as far as production priority was concerned as the Bonneville was the star seller. The headlight brackets do not look correct, as the holes in them were added in the late 60's to accommodate a set of Honda directional lights, long since scrapped. Nick Woodbury Owner.

1964/1978 Triumph 650cc Street Tracker Frame no. T120R DU7866 Engine no. T140E JA11933 During the 1950s, the U.S. Triumph distributors – Johnson Motors in Pasadena and The Triumph Corporation in Baltimore – were often at odds with the British factory. The Americans wanted more and more power and sportier looking bikes, while the British were more concerned with their home market which favored weather protection and reliability. There was also disagreement about the role of racing in the marketing of the firm's products. The Americans saw racing as a sales tool, while the Brits saw it as an expense better spent on product development. By the end of the decade, the Americans prevailed and the still recalcitrant Brits followed. After a Triumph-powered streamliner set records at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats in 1955 and 1956, the British decided to take advantage of the publicity and introduced the Bonneville in in September 1958. It became the most enduring symbol of the company. Its newness notwithstanding, the Bonneville remained recognisably similar to Edward Turner's first Speed Twin of 1938. Unitary construction of engine and gearbox was already a feature of the 350 and 500 twins though, and this innovation duly appeared on the 650s in 1963. A favourite to the café racer, desert sled and dirt tracker alike, the Bonneville continued in this new form as Triumph's top-of-the-range sports roadster until the early 1980s. The bike offered here takes that premise to a whole new level. A nicely presented and very well built machine, the bike was pieced together by a very capable enthusiast over a few years, some years ago. Starting with a perfectly straight 1964 Bonneville frame, an engine of August 1978 vintage was fully rebuilt and installed. It was treated to new bearings, seals, gaskets, rings, valves, etc. It is responsive and powerful, starts easily and idles well. Engineered to shift on the traditional right hand side, it shifts smoothly through a good clutch. The parts to transfer it back to left hand shift accompany the bike. The bike was then treated to upgraded, restored, and custom cycle parts. Up front are custom forks straddling the 19” wheel, with an 18” at the rear, both with good tires. Brakes, suspension and all electrical work perfectly. A small front headlight adds to the custom street tracker feel of the bike, together with the perfect condition large tank and good quality street tracker seat and tail section. And the underslung TT style pipes sound fantastic! The bike starts easily and runs well. It handles really well in the tracker/desert sled set up, is light and nimble and a fantastic machine through city traffic and on the twisty country lanes. Though there is no speedo, there are only a few miles on the bike since its build and is still in excellent condition throughout And is an absolute blast to ride.
