This is a great first time rider bike, or a great first time restoration bike. Keeps up with modern riders on the highway, but still gets the classic bike stares when you park. The bike is a blast to ride and loves the turns. Does have rear pegs, so if you want to one up, you can. I've taken her on long trips to the ocean (about 3 hours each way) and she never gave me any trouble. Again, as I can't stress this enough, this is a 30+ year old bike and it is not perfect. There are small chips in the paint and a little rust since shes been sitting around now that I have another bike to ride. Easy to fix, and she runs just fine, but you are not getting a fully restored bike and I will not accept returns. Please know what you're getting into with a retro bike before you buy! Bike is currently for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this listing. Sold as is, no returns, no warranties. Comes with hard to find original front fairing and all the mounting pieces I have, although I can't guarantee I have them all. Buyer is responsible for pick-up. Hello, I have here a 1982 Yamaha XJ550 Seca (XJ550R) that is very close to fully restored condition. I've been slowly restoring it for 3 years now. This is the second one of these I've owned. I bought this one with a salvage title and it is was inspected and cleared last summer. It was supposedly dumped on the right side according to sales listing from when I bought it, but it either didn't do much damage or was repaired before I got it because all I had to replace was the brake lever and turn signal. It's got dual exhaust and a 6-speed transmission. I rebuilt the front forks in 2012. It was professionally repainted last summer and the guy did an excellent job. The tank emblems are NOS and were quite pricey. Brand new mirrors installed last month and brand new intake boots installed 3 weeks ago. New Uni air filters last summer. Changed the oil recently and it runs like a champ! Tires are in near new condition. Front brakes maybe have about 1000 miles on them, and the rear shoes about 100 miles. Comes with a box of some spare parts, but nothing fancy. The waterproof and UV resistant cover (pictured) is included with the sale. I also have an entire Haynes repair manual printed out in a binder and an additional CD that has what appears to be all of the Yamaha factory service manuals/specs/data for this bike, very helpful! Has some minor cosmetic flaws, which are pictured. The fuses were re-wired by the previous owner, but everything works like it should so I haven't bothered with it. For sale is my 1982 Yamaha Turbo Seca. It has 18,500 miles on it. I ride the bike so it will increase til it sells. It looks very good for its age, its a very nostalgic bike, not many exist any longer. It was cutting edge back in its time, being an actual turbo charged motorcycle, very futuristic styling and having an electronic instrument cluster. A Yamaha Seca Turbo was featured in the James Bond movie "Never Say Never Again". Its 33 years old, so dont expect it to be perfect, but its in great condition for the age it is. Everything on the bike works except occassionally the left blinker comes on solid, and the fuel gauge sometimes reads incorrectly. It also has a modern aftermarket fuel shutoff installed. Since owning it I have replaced the plugs, fork seals, cleaned and sinked the carbs, changed the oil when needed, replaced the shaft drive fluid, installed new front brake pads etc. In the photos the bike has a valid VT plate on it, but its located in Mechanicsburg PA. I have my 1982 Yamaha Turbo Seca XJ650LJ for sale. Its in good running and looking condition as the pictures show. If you are not familiar with turbo bikes, back in the early 80's these bikes were the latest craze, an attempt to get large amounts of horsepower from smaller power plants, like this 650cc. They didnt go over well as to the high price tag when new, and the word "Turbo" made your insurance rates go up. I bought this bike because I love rare vehicles in general, its a blast to ride and watch the turbo boost gauge rise and feel the kick in seat when it does. I dont know if I would call this a "beginners bike" as it is a little scary because it is fast, but more so the handling is of 1982 technology, as well as the brakes. It has a rear drum brake, and the factory single piston front calipers so it does not stop on a dime as today's modern bikes do, especially when the turbo boost hits and you have to slow the bike in a hurry, it can be scary! But dont get me wrong, the bike is a lot of fun, just be aware that this machine may not be for everyone. Its comfort level in riding possition is like that of a sport touring bike though. I recently have changed the oil, replaced the fork seals, cleaned the carburetors, etc. The bike is 30 plus years old, but operates as it should, however occassionally the left turn signal will not blink (stays on solid), the fuel gauge reads empty sometimes when its full of gas and once in a while the tachometer seems slow to react to change in engine speeds. The bike also has a modern aftermarket fuel shutoff installed. These bikes can be quirky and not many people know much about them at bike shops anymore, and they are fairly complex, there is however a whole online community dedicated to these nostalgic turbo motorcycles though that has helped me with an issue or two since owning it.
