For sale is my 1979 Yamaha XS650 Street Tracker. It had to be black so when I started trying to figure out how to integrat the headlight into my front number plate it was a no brainer. Plus the Iconic #3 just adds more symbolism to the era this bike came from. It is built from the ground up using quality parts and much attention to every detail. Many parts were custom fabricated or machined and nothing was under engineered or left to wonder about long term reliability. The engine is completely rebuilt with 940 miles of careful break in and fun rides. The bike is the product of a 3 year carefully thought out project. The frame was media blasted and primed with acid etch primer and 3 heavy coats of single stage black polyurethane enamel. EVERY bushing , bearing and seal were replaced. Brake calipers were rebuilt and custom machined for a more modern look. Rotors drilled and surfaced. New alternator rotor, voltage regulator/rectifier and gel battery installed. New handlebars, new front master cylinder, ASV levers and cables. All engine covers polished and clear coated. Front forks and fork braced polished and clearcoated. Dunlop K180 dirt track racing tires front and rear. Tank and XR styled seat pan/rear fender are base coat and clearcoated and smooth as glass. Custom upholstered seat and padding with a red accent to compliment the red outlined Earnhardt numbers. I could go on but I think you can see the rest of what is on the bike. Its a beautiful build, very neat and tidy with attention to every possible detail. Runs very strong and sounds awesome with the Ascot styled exhaust and shorty megaphones that have a small but effective bit of baffling installed. I am sure there will be lots of questions about whether every little part and clutch plate and spring and cam chain etc have been replaced ,.... the answer is yes !! every part on the bike has been gone through and any normal replacement part was either in excellent condition or it was replaced. And by the way this is a kick start only bike,... it would be unholy to use a starter button on something that is so beastly and wicked. This is a Street Tracker that I believe is as well built and cosmetically perfect as any I have seen on Ebay. You will NOT be disappointed. It is stunning and capable . I have just about every receipt for the parts that are on the bike. It along with the paint supplies add up to nearly what my reserve is,.... and as usual the number of hours put into such a creation cannot be fathomed,.... and in this case astronomical. - This bike was built using a 1979 XS650 Special as a starting point - The bike was originally picked up from Bent Bike in Lynnwood and lemme tell ya--it was it in sorry shape. The engine was tore down and rebuilt from the ground up with new pistons, rings, pins, valves and guides and all associated gaskets and seals associated with that process. The motor only has test miles on it at this time so it is essentially a brand new motor. The frame received a full make over as well and after a few subtle modifications it was media blasted and powder coated metallic gun metal grey. The tank, seat and forks are done in a custom mixed MATRIX systems metsallic black--everything else is powder coated. The photos don't do justice to the paint job in my opinion. For sale or trade is a 1981 Yamaha XS 650 Dual Sport motorcycle. I have owned this bike for the past 6 years and have done a large amount of (tasteful) custom work to this bike. I planned to bring this bike down to the Tail of the Dragon in NC so no expense was spared on handling/style. I will try and best describe this the work that has been done without writing a novel.First off, everything on the frame was removed and disassembled. The frame was then shaved of all useless brackets/mounts then painted. A swing arm was added/converted from a Yamaha Radian (very popular among street trackers). During the install, I added bronze swing arm bushings and new rear shocks to give the bike an aggressive look. The front forks were completely rebuilt. The lowers have all new seals/boots and were shaved/polished by Hugh’s handbuilt in NC. The fork tubes are new from Mikes XS and have upgraded progressive springs. The triple tree was sand blasted and painted and steering bearings were upgraded from standard balls to tapered rollers. The wheels and tires were also completely disassembled. The hubs blasted, painted, and rebuild with new bearings and seals. The rims were professionally polished by Proctors Metal Finishing in Muskegon. The hubs and rims were laced with new stainless spokes and trued. Tires are brand new dual sport from CC Cycle in Muskegon. Front rotor is drilled and a new caliper, master cylinder, and brake line finish up the front. (Still needs fluid added and bled). Rear brake hub was polished at Proctors and new pads/springs were installed.Bars are new dirtbike bars, mounts were blasted painted. Foot pegs were blasted and new mounting rubber and foot rubbers were installed. Shift lever is new “Big foot” shifter (Mikes XS). Seat is custom mounted to hide electronics. Tank has new mounting rubbers and rebuilt gas cap with key. Chain is also new stainless. Most parts were blasted and painted to make this truly a nice bike. I also used a lot of new hardware. Motor has stock rotating assembly. Hughs PMA kit was recently installed along with a new Pamco electronic ignition. Carbs are also new Mikuni 34MM VMs purchased from 650central. Motor has an updated clutch assembly and new clutch plates. Performance spring kit was also added (Mikes XS). Sprocket shaft seal and clutch pushrod seal were also replaced the motor. Internal motor oil filter was replaced but could use a new door.This bike is currently not running good enough to ride. I can get the bike to fire up but have not had a chance to tune the carbs and time the motor. I have all the literature from Hughes, Pamco Pete, and 650 centraljust can’t find the time to get this baby finished. Here is a 1983 Yamaha xs650 street tracker I just finished. The bike started out with less than 5000 miles and has just over a 100 on build. The bike has new silver and black base clear paint(beautiful!!!!) on tank and rear fender. Bike runs perfectly. Currently is kick only but have switch if new owner wants to hook up electric start. I made the side plates or number plates out of steel and mounted a kill switch on left side plate. The bike uses original key and switch which is tucked under air filters. The bike starts easy and on the first kick. It has a lot of power and shifts smooth. Idles perfectly with zero smoke. Is a blast to ride. Also, the speedo was calibrated when built to original miles which reads under 5000.
