1974 Yamaha XS500. Matching numbers bike! This bike was bought new in 1975 by the original owner, whos family i purchased it from. It was ridden regularly until 1983. It was parked a pack house and left there until last week! The bike overall looks great for a original untouched bike of its age. It is the cool purple color they had. The headlight bucket is slightly bent see pics The engine turns over with compression. It is not running. Bike still has the original license plate on it!!!!I DO NOT HAVE A KEY OR TITLE FOR THIS BIKE!! THE FAMILY WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND EITHER! For sale is a 1978 Yamaha XS400F with 7548 miles. I purchased this bike in February of this year and have covered about 2000 miles on it. The previous owner had bought it from an Indiana University professor who had gotten it as a barn find. He proceeded it get the bike into running condition with minimal maintenance as much of the bike is original. He did replace the side covers and the original grab bar is missing. Cosmetically the bike is in decent condition, with minor rust and scratches on the paint. There is a chip in the black paint on the headlight on the left side and there are a couple chips in the plastic on the back side of the left mirror. There are spots on the finish on the front forks. The tank is overall in good shape on the outside, though there is some rust visible inside. The inside of the chain cover has some minor rust. Some of the finish on the engine cover as peeled away. As mentioned above, the side covers are non-original and they do not exactly match the paint on the gas tank. There are several very small holes in the seat, please refer to the pictures. Mechanically, the engine is very sound; it starts easily cold or hot, with either the electric or the kick starter. It does not smoke at all and does not leak any oil. Since I had purchased this bike I have repaired a couple of small issues; the rear brake was sticking, not to the point where it was un-ride able but it was felt during shifts so I bleed the rear brake line and removed the rear caliper. It had surface rust on the bottom side so it was removed and I reassembled the system which seems to have fixed the issue. Another issue have not resolved is that the front forks seep oil. I replaced what was in there when I bought it and the fix would be replace the fork seals, which are readily available online. Were I to keep the bike, I would do this repair. The bike shifts through all the gears, all six of them, and all lights, turn signals, and the horn work. The rear tire has recently been replaced and currently has 4 miles on it. I will keep added mileage on it under 100 miles I have tried to be very detailed in my description so there are no surprises to the buyer. 1977 Yamaha XS650 What I have here is a 1977 Yamaha XS650D. In June of 2013 when I bought the bike it had 2599 original miles. The history of the bike goes like this. The bike comes from Indiana. The original owner had the bike and never rode it much. He was afraid of motorcycles. The bike just sat in his garage. A friend of his bought it from him and it sat in his garage. Then comes the guy that I bought the bike from. In 2010 He was on his way from his home in Canada to his home In Florida making a stop in Indiana where he was buying some Honda 160’s that the guy had. He saw something covered with a tarp in the garage and asked to see it and this is what was under it. Needless to say he bought this and the Honda’s and took them all to Florida. Then in 2013 I was lucky enough to have this bike cross my path. So I’m the 4th owner of this bike. Now the bike. The paint and chrome are original and in outstanding condition. When I got the bike it needed some special attention. Here is what I did. The wheels were removed and broken down. Hubs were polished. Rims were polished. Reassembled with stainless steel spokes and then I installed new Dunlop K70 tires with new tubes and rim strips. Then I started on the striping and polishing of the engine cases, fork legs, and exhaust. The engine was serviced with new oil filters, clutch plates, thrust washer, spark plugs, gaskets and seals. Valves and cam chain were adjusted. New handle bars and grips were installed. Front master cylinder and caliper were rebuilt. Caliper piston was replaced. The rotor was resurfaced. New front brake pads. Carbs were cleaned and synced. The seat was recovered with a great looking reproduction cover made in the United Kingdom . The foam and seat pan are in great shape. Maintence free battery installed and charging system checked. If you are lucky enough to find one of these bikes that hasn’t that haven’t been altered is one thing but to find one in original condition like this is unbelievable. You are problly asking yourself if these are truly hard to come across in this condition then why is he selling it. Well I’m putting up for sale just to see it there is any Interest in the bike. I have a number of bikes in my collection which I would consider one of a kind. Every now and then I advertise one to see if there is any interest. The price I list is the price it is going to take to buy one of my special bikes. If no one steps up to the price I will continue to enjoy and ride the bike myself until the right buyer comes along. The current mileage is 3169. I love riding it. And the attention that it gets is Unbelievable, But it deserves it.
