You are looking at a "One of A Kind" Hand Built Thunder Road Motorcycles' Custom 1917 Harley Davidson replica rightfully dubbed "CopperHead"! This Motorcycle has been featured in Magazines, Calenders, and Taken "Best Hand Built Motorcycle" awards at various shows! This bike is NOT a kit. It started its life as a 1979 Harley Davidson Sportster and is currently registered as such today. But that is about the only info that will resemble its start as a 1979 Harley Davidson! The Ironhead 1000cc Sportster engine was chosen as the starting point of this project, the top end of this motor does not have through studs and allowed for heavy cosmetic modifications to produce the "One off" hand built "Copperhead" tribute you see today! This project was produced to portray the stylings and simple elegance of an early 1900's Harley Davidson but offer the owner features like electric start , disc brakes and modern controls! Finished in "Indian Burgundy" acrylic enamel paint, along with all hand painted lettering and striping, it is true to the vintage character it represents. This build took over 6 months to complete and most parts were completely fabricated from scratch using Hand Tools and a welder! The 21" Custom 80 Spoke Front & Rear wheels from "American Wire Wheel" with Radial Rotors are extraordinary! The disc brake set up looks like fine art accenting the wheels! Tires are 90-90-21 up front and 120-70-21 on rear. The unique "Jockey Shift" or Hand Shift with Rocker foot clutch smoothly shifts the 4 speed transmission and is a Fabricated marvel that must be seen in person! Antique accents like Gas primer cups, Gas Tank syringe, and Glass reader gauges exemplify an early century motorcycle but are not required for operation. This bike runs a standard 12 volt system and offers working headlight, tailight, signals and horn! The front forks were fabricated with the help of Factory H.D. Rockers & Springs and also feature one of a kind built-in dampener knobs with Latigo leather discs, all accenting the gold plated headlight bezel! The rear end including rear fender, tailight, and License plate bracket are all hinged and open to the side to allow for rear tire replacement when necessary! It has the standard points and Dyna coil, stock pistons, cams and lifters, the fuel is fed via a M88 Linkert Carburetor and has a dry sump oil system. The bike has been wired with all Mil-Spec wiring, and Euro Components Hand Controls operate the electronics. The riders seat was finished out by Persons Genuine Leather and offers a 3 stage built in cushion suspension. This bike is the nicest riding rigid frame you may ever experience! It is an absolute dream to ride and will draw crowds at every stop. FRAME: Hard tailed on frame jig (done correctly) bodyworked, and painted with 2K industrial black FRONTEND: New wheel bearings, rebuilt forks, new 20 weight oil and fork seals, fork strut made with original fender strut, decorative antique brass knuckles formed to fit (have original front fender that would have to be riveted back on if wanted). New neck bearings. New turn signals/running lights. Headlight is a vintage Unity spotlight, with new sealed beam headlight installed, custom mount. Custom made "rabbit ear" handlebars. vintage Harley Davidson mirrors (have both, only one on in pictures). New mini speedometer. ENGINE: Reworked heads, new valve guides and seals, valves lapped in. New top end, cylinders,,rings, and pistons (STD. bore). S&S Super E carburetor that has been gone through, older Zambini Bros points cover. Dyna S electronic ignition with coil. Lower end all gone through, Measured and Tested. Rebuilt starter and generator. Transmission received NOS 3rd gear (due to small stress fracture) and has been shimmed correctly. New 530 o-ring chain, and custom built skateboard wheel chain tensioner, with RUSH speed bomber ceramic bearings. Relocated oil filer, and oil cooler installed (gets HOT in Texas, cooler climates might want to shroud). All new James gaskets and seals. Very few miles on engine...still needs remainder of break-in (will continue with short rides to keep her stable) OTHER: Gas tank is an "axed Bob" with second cap filled in, hand painted old school hot rod flames (pinstripe done by hand, as such has flaws and variations, as it should). Custom made seat, p-pad, and solo saddlebag all covered in red leather and sealed. Upper license plate bolts are LED for plate. Custom, old school trailer fender, sectioned and center rib (all 16GA steel). Custom made sissy bar. New brake lights/turn signals/running lights. Rear wheel has new bearings. TIRES: Great shape, still have great tread, front is old and would think about replacing it, rear is in great shape There are so many things done to this bike and that are "one-off's" not another one like her (the "jenny" on oil tank is just a sticker so it can be removed easily). This bike has been meticulously gone through and built as close to a "period style" short chop from late 60's early 70's. Most add on parts were sourced from antique shops, or vintage parts from shops. Up for sale is a very rare 1976 Harley Davidson Sporster 1000XLH Bicentennial Edition with 11665 Original Miles. The motor has not been rebuilt, as it hasn't even been properly broken in yet. It starts right up and runs great, sounds great, just like a Harley should. The seat that is on it is from the same era, but I'm not sure if it's original. I have seen it on a few of these Bicentennial Edition bikes, but have also seen another seat that more resembles other stock Sportster seats from that era. So it may not be original, but it is period appropriate. It also has highway pegs that seem period appropriate installed but I doubt those are stock either. I'm pretty sure it does have the stock grips on it, though the right side throttle grip is cracking and will need to be repaired or replaced (most likely). It has a trident top sissy bar that I know is from that era as well, but also unsure if that is stock...I think probably not. Tank Paint is original factory black metallic flake rough with flaking paint and some rust, though the decals have been sun faded and especially the eagle looks rough. Fenders are pretty decent, oil tank paint is good but a small dent you can't really see that could easily be fixed, in fact I might do that. 80% of the chrome is in excellent shape, but there are a few parts with a bit of rust. Very little pitting in the chrome. Tires are dry rotted but hold air. Brakes work good. Engine runs great! Transmission pulls and shifts great! Headlight and switches work, kill switch and start switch all work correctly. Missing Mirrors, missing turn signals. Tach and Spedo fogged, but I'll fix that before it sells. New battery, new oil, new filter, new ignition switch and keys, new transmission oil, new front master cylinder rebuild kit installed. **The Pics in this listing were taken before I changed the oil and battery and installed the new ignition switch and a few other things. Tomorrow I will take some new pics in the sunlight after I get her cleaned up a little better. I will add the video of it running and riding at that time.** Original exhaust, original paint, original wheels, original caliper and drum, original matching number on frame and motor which match the title. I believe it has the original chain still installed on it honestly. I just now removed the dipstick from the oil tank top so that I could use the easy to find drop in type oil filter canister instead of the vintage style. It still had the old school canister oil filter on it that the dipstick goes through. I still have the dipstick if it's important to the buyer. Original S&S Carburetor, though I think the breather cover may be a newer one and I only say this because it looks brand new, and even though the chrome is in really good shape on the bike, this part is like new looking. I have a clear KY title in my name and ready to be notarized for sale to you. No taxes owed on it, no leins, no issues whatsoever with the title. The title also of course matches the VIN stamped into the frame and the motor, and of course notes that it is in fact a Bicentennial Edition 1976 Harley Sportster. I have listed this bike for sale, though I am considering a cosmetic restoration on it to raise its value. I would however just assume sell it to someone who would enjoy performing the restoration themselves and whom might put a little more time and effort into the details of this Collectible Classic Bike. It is the coolest bike I have ever owned, but it's really not my style, I'm an 80's kid, and I love vintage 80's bikes. I wasn't even alive when this thing was made and I'm sure there's someone out there who would love this thing way more than I ever could. I am the third owner. The original owner owned it until a few years ago (though it had been in storage for about 10 years) until his death at which time it was left in his will to his daughter, from whom I purchased the bike. She never rode it, and I've only ridden it down the street and back a few times for testing purposes. The title verifies the mileage on the bike which matches the odometer, and has no brands of any kind. So the person who buys this bike is getting a true original that needs nothing to ride, but with a very little bit of cosmetic work could have a very valuable classic on their hands for a very reasonable price.
